State Observer Design for a Class of Rational Nonlinear Systems Eduardo Scheffer Saraiva, Aurélio Tergolina Salton, Andrea Cristofaro 2024 32nd Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation MED 2024, 2024 This paper presents a novel methodology for the synthesis of state observers for a class of systems subject to rational nonlinearities. The key idea is to represent both the system and the observer in the so-called differential-algebraic representation in order to obtain the error dynamics. Once achieved, design conditions can be formulated through optimization problems subject to constraints in the form of linear matrix inequalities. This approach enables the development of a systematic observer design framework with formal theoretical guarantees, including the asymptotic stabilization of the error within a specified exponential decay rate along with constraints on the observer gains. A post-synthesis analysis is presented to ensure the stability of the plant considering the feedback of the estimated states. An illustrative example is provided to showcase the proposed method.
Nanometer Scanning with Micrometer Sensing: Beating Quantization Constraints in Lissajous Trajectory Tracking Matheus Lohse, Rafael S. Castro, Aurélio T. Salton, Minyue Fu Proceedings of the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2024 This paper addresses the task of tracking Lissajous trajectories in the presence of quantized positioning sensors. To do so, theoretical results on tracking of continuous time periodic signals in the presence of output quantization are provided. With these results in hand, the application to Lissajous tracking is explored. The method proposed relies on the internal model principle and dispenses perfect knowledge of the system equations. Numerical results show that an arbitrary small scanning resolution is achievable despite large sensor quantization intervals.
Innovative SynRM Rotor Design for Simplified Construction and Enhanced Mechanical Reliability in High-Speed Applications Gabriel B. da Silveira, Roberto P. Homrich, Igor P. Wiltuschnig, Aly F. Flores Filho, Aurelio T. Salton, et al. 2024 IEEE International Magnetic Conference Short Papers Intermag Short Papers 2024 Proceedings, 2024 This paper presents a novel rotor geometry for high-speed synchronous reluctance motors (SynRM), where the rotor is drawn using a cosine function of the airgap length. This geometry can improve mechanical reliability in high-speed applications, such as in electric vehicles, by eliminating the need for flux barriers and making prototype construction easier. Initially, we present a brief review of the literature on high-speed SynRM, investigating the mechanical issues that might negatively affect their electromagnetic characteristics. After that, we discuss the proposed rotor design methodology. Then, electromagnetic results obtained through the numerical simulation of a 114 kW motor at 12000 rpm are shown, highlighting good torque and power density outcomes.
A Comparative Performance Study of High-Speed SynRM and PMa-SynRM Rare-Earth and Rare-Earth-Less Permanent Magnets for Automotive Traction Gabriel B. Da Silveira, Igor P. Wiltuschnig, Roberto P. Homrich, Ály F. Flores Filho, Aurelio T. Salton, et al. 2024 IEEE International Magnetic Conference Short Papers Intermag Short Papers 2024 Proceedings, 2024 This paper addresses a comparative analysis of high-speed Synchronous Reluctance Machines (SynRM) and Synchronous Reluctance Machines Assisted by Permanent Magnets (PMa-SynRM) of Ferrite and NdFeB magnets for automotive traction applications. The coils of these motors are subjected to high current densities, and liquid cooling is incorporated into their housing. Initially, a brief introduction to SynRM with and without permanent magnets is discussed. Subsequently, the paper presents the curves of the magnetic materials, which were characterized by the authors and utilized in the simulations. These motors are assessed through numerical simulations with a base speed of 6000 rpm and a maximum speed of 12000 rpm. At the end, electromagnetic results obtained through these simulations are presented, followed by their respective power and torque densities.
