Paloma Sánchez Hernández is a senior lecturer in the Department of German and Slavic Philology at the UCM, where she has been teaching and researching since 1996. In addition to her teaching duties in the Bachelor's Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, the Master's Degree in Teaching and the Master's Degree in Literary Translation, she also teaches at doctoral level and in various seminars on lexicology and lexicography at different Spanish and foreign universities. She has also given lectures and presentations at numerous conferences and seminars, some of them by invitation, where she has disseminated her work in the above-mentioned fields. She has also participated in numerous European, national and innovation projects in the field of German linguistics and corpus linguistics, as well as in the field of new technologies.

  • The feminine motion suffix: a contrastive analysis German-Spanish

    Aquesta contribució s’emmarca en la lingüística aplicada des de la lingüística cognitiva i la formació de paraules i es basa en dos corpus de referència en alemany i espanyol. L’article aborda els diversos trets dels sufixos de moció. La morfologia de construccions, dins de la lingüística cognitiva, considera els elements de la formació de paraules com a construccions amb forma i significat. El sufix de moció serveix principalment per formar el femení, però no és l’únic formador de femení en ambdues llengües. Per això, els objectius d’aquest treball són: 1) analitzar les funcions dels sufixos de moció. 2) Investigar el comportament del corpus respecte de la literatura existent. 3) Explorar les convergències i les divergències en les dues llengües. Els resultats d’aquestes anàlisis donaran lloc a l’afirmació que el sufix de moció presenta una freqüència d’aparició més gran en alemany que en espanyol. En alemany destaca, a més, l’ús en el llenguatge inclusiu i en espanyol s’investigarà la manca de sistematicitat per expressar el femení.
  • Onomatopoeia in German Verb Suffixes

    This article falls within the framework of lexical semantics and word formation and includes a theoretical framework and an empirical study based on a literary corpus. It aims to analyse onomatopoeia in German verbs with the suffixes ‘-(e)l(n)’ and -‘(e)r(n)’ and to study the behaviour of these verbs in the corpus. The corpus of reference has been extracted from Der goldne Topf by E.T.A. Hoffmann. Due to the richness of the content concerning these verb suffixes, the author has already carried out a study about the iterative aspect of these suffixes in this literary work, and the present paper aims to extent the research with the analysis of the onomatopoeic verbs in it. Specifically, the following topics will be addressed. 1) What is onomatopoeia? 2) What is the relationship between these German verb suffixes and onomatopoeia? 3) How is the frequency of appearance of these suffixes in relation to onomatopoeia quantified in the corpus? 4) What semantic and morphological characteristics are shown by the suffixed verbs that express onomatopoeia? The current study presents a theoretical framework with the aim of analysing onomatopoeia and its relationship with German word formation. Taking this theoretical framework into account, in the empirical part of the study, the corpus is qualitatively and quantitatively analysed, and conclusions are drawn bearing in mind the function of the verbs with the suffixes of interest. R software was used for pre-processing the text needed for generating the corpus. Excel was used for analysis.
  • GERMAN VERBS SUFFIXED IN -IER-: A STUDY BASED ON A LITERARY CORPUS

    "This paper deals with word formation and Applied Linguistics, as far as Corpus Linguistics is concerned. Features and functions of verbs with the suffix -ier will be traced in a literary corpus. An in-depth study of the following aspects is proposed: the origin and evolution of this suffix and its variants will be determined, the features and functions of this suffix will be described, based upon the available bibliography about word formation, and an analysis of the frequency of appearance and use of -ier within a corpus of five literary works from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries will be made. First of all, a theoretical framework is set up regarding the morphological, semantic and syntactic features of these types of verbs. Secondly, the empirical work will be carried out through a corpus analysis based on that theoretical framework. Finally, the frequency of appearance of such verbs in our corpus will be analysed. The final hypothesis will show that the functions and behavioural patterns of this type of verbs are diverse, but they do not differ very much from those described in the available literature."

  • Diconale: A novel german-spanish onomasiological lexicographical model involving paradigmatic and syntagmatic information

    This contribution, based on the DICONALE ON LINE and COMBIDIGILEX (FFI2015-64476-P) research projects, aims to create an onomasiological bilingual dictionary with online access for German and Spanish verbal lexemes. The objective of this work is to present the most relevant contributions of the dictionary based on two lexemes from the COGNITION conceptual field, the LERNEN/APRENDER subfield. The DICONALE dictionary aims to fill the gap left by the current German–Spanish bilingual lexicography. The novelty is not only the electronic format, but also the inclusion of paradigmatic and syntagmatic information into one dictionary, and the contrastive aspects, subjects that until now have not been found in any onomasiological dictionaries in this area. In addition to the description of the paradigmatic and syntagmatic relationships, it also presents certain characteristics related to the contrastive analysis of the two lexemes. On the one hand, it aims to offer a panoramic view of the most relevant features of the dictionary while, on the other hand, attempting to demonstrate the relevance of said criteria in the contrasting German-Spanish lexicography.

    Dieser Beitrag behandelt Aspekte an der Schnittstelle zwischen Lexikographie und Semantik. Ausgehend von den Begriffen Ausländer und dem Anderen werden von einem semantischen Gesichtspunkt her diese Begriffe zuerst im Deutschen und Spanischen analysiert. Eine Analyse dieser Art soll verdeutlichen, wie diese Begriffe die deutsche und die spanische Lexikographie beeinflusst haben und ob sie für die deutsche und die spanische Lexikographie in Bezug auf ihr heutiges Verständnis eine Rolle spielen. Auf diese Weise soll der Beweis erbracht werden, dass die Fremdwörterbücher in der deutschen Lexikographie seit langem immer mehr an Umfang und an Bedeutung gewonnen haben, während die spanischen Fremdwörterbücher nur einen geringeren Teil des gesamtes lexikographischen Gutes ausmachen. Ziel dieser Studie ist auch, zu einer kontrastiven Perspektive zwischen der Konzipierung von deutschen und spanischen Fremdwörterbüchern zu gelangen. Es wird korpusbasiert vorgegangen, wobei wir für das Deutsche hauptsächlich mit DEREKA (über COSMAS II) und für das Spanische mit CREA arbeiten.
