  • Wind speed logger design: A practical tool for Bangka's energy mapping

    Wind power represents a prospective renewable energy option worth exploring. Bangka Island coastline extends approximately 2,375.95 km, presenting significant opportunities for harnessing coastal wind resources as an alternative energy solution. This research employed automated monitoring equipment to assess wind energy capabilities. The measurement system incorporated several components, including an anemometer sensor, DHT 11, RTC, SD-Card module, and Arduino microcontroller. Data collection occurred across five different coastal sites, with three-day monitoring periods at each location. The analysis examined wind velocity patterns, power generation capacity, and geographical distribution. Findings revealed that the majority of Bangka Island’s coastal regions experience mean wind velocities varies from 2 to 3 m/s, classifying them within the low-velocity spectrum. Wind speed data analysis demonstrated that these conditions could yield approximately 150-450 Watt/m 2 of daily energy output, translating to roughly 60-200 kW/m 2 of yearly energy generation potential.
  • Economical and technical analysis of Pangkalpinang waste power plant incinerator technology

    Increased waste production has always been a problem for every city in Indonesia, including in Pangkalpinang. Population growth, inadequate processing, and utilization of waste are the primary causes of this issue. An alternative to reduce waste piles is to convert waste to fuel for waste power plants. To find out how much electrical energy potential in landfills and the feasibility of a waste power plant, an analysis is needed by calculating using existing formulas, forecasting with geometric methods, and investment assessment with NPV, IRR, and also the payback period. The calculation showed that the potential for electrical energy for 2013 was 6,661,924 kWh, while during the 2022 period was 13,161,362 kWh per year. The results of the forecasted waste potential for 2023 until 2033 increased the generated electricity. In 2023, the produced energy was 16,553,678 kWh/year. While in 2033, the amount of energy produced will be 21,190,137 kWh/year. Purchasing electricity from a waste power after being traded shows a sizable income. The construction of this waste power plant meets the feasibility considering the investment assessment made with a purchase price of electricity of more than IDR 1,600 per kWh.
  • Green energy powered autonomous IoT catfish feeder prototype based on Arduino Mega and ESP-8266

    Catfish is a freshwater fish commodity which is easy to cultivate but has cannibalistic nature. There are 3 phases of catfish cultivation: fingerling, rearing, and fattening. The fattening phase is a stage of nursery to produce catfish according its size to be consumed. During this stage, it’s vital to regularly feed the fish at morning (7 am), noon (1 pm), and evening (5 pm) and monitor water quality so catfish farmers are helped. This tool implements Arduino Mega, ESP-8266, 20 WP solar panel, 755 80W DC motor, servo motor, ultrasonic sensor, fish food container, and DS3231 RTC. This research has 3 scenarios: scenario 1: food given sparingly twice/day, scenario 2: the IoT fish feeder automatically supply food thrice/day at morning (7 am), noon (1 pm), and evening (5 pm). scenario 3: food provided extravagantly twice/day. This research resulted an autonomous IoT fish feeder It is proven that scenario 2 has satisfactory results, fish growth is better 33.3% when compared to scenario 1 and is relatively the same as fish growth in scenario 3. Meanwhile, the amount of food spent is 25% from scenario 3. The level of turbidity is also better at 37.5% compared to scenario 3.
  • Designing monitor and control system of internet of things (IoT) based solar powered smart greenhouse prototype

    This study aims to produce a prototype of greenhouse system which is used for nursery that can be maintained and controlled remotely. The design and control employs power supply from solar panels and applies ESP-32 as a data processor which will be sent on Telegram App. Controlling and monitoring in this study are observed from the comparison between temperature, growth, and plant weight which are performed both automatically in a smart greenhouse and manually cultivated in non-greenhouse. The results obtained at the highest temperature of the smart greenhouse was on the 19th day of testing was 36.10°C and for the manually cultivated in non-greenhouse the temperature was 34.65°C on the 16th day. The lowest temperature for the smart greenhouse was on the 27th day of testing which was 27.51°C and for the manually cultivated in non-greenhouse was 26.64°C. As a result, the plants growth for each treatment increased every week. Plants growth in the smart greenhouse is higher than the growth rate in the manually cultivated in non-greenhouse. Plants weight that had measured are averagely 159 grams in smart greenhouse and 123 grams for the manually cultivated in non-greenhouse.
