  • Assessing the Role of Kisan Rail on Agri-Supply Chain in India: Insights from Mixed-Method Research
    Abhishikt Chauhan, William Nunes
Research on World Agricultural Economy, 2025
Agriculture plays a significant role in the country’s economy still there are inefficiencies in logistics of sector which hinder farmers' profitability. The Government of India (GoI) has launched the Kisan Rail (KR) scheme in 2020 which aims to address these challenges by providing an affordable and accessible rail transport system for agricultural produce. This study evaluates the effectiveness of KR scheme in Madhya Pradesh. The evaluation uses four variables namely accessibility, affordability, awareness, market access, and income enhancement to assess the effectiveness of KR scheme. The convergent parallel mixed-methods approach was used and qualitative data was analysed using techniques such as word cloud & triangulation. The quantitative analysis was done using Pearson correlation and fractional logistics regression. The findings revealing that KR significantly improves affordability, market reach, and income stability, especially for small and medium farmers. However, infrastructure gaps, first-mile connectivity issues, scheduling inefficiencies, and inconsistent policy implementation hinder full adoption. Additionally, limited awareness and outreach, particularly among marginal and female farmers, restrict utilization. The study highlights KR’s potential in reducing post-harvest losses and bypassing intermediaries but calls for stronger government intervention, infrastructure upgrades, dynamic pricing models, and digital integration to maximize impact. Future research should explore KR’s long-term sustainability using longitudinal studies and advanced econometric models to enhance India’s agricultural supply chain.
  • The Moral Economy of Violence: An Analytical and Conceptual Discussion
    William Nunes
Dilemma in Politics Issues Values and Debates in the Contemporary World, 2024
Moral economy studies political economy from an anthropological perspective as it deals with practices and institutions that regulate society. It is an approach that not only integrates the traditional object of political economy – relations between capital, class and state – but also provides an anthological tool to scrutinise the way it is embedded. On the one hand it advocates for a grounded understanding of the global political-economic process, while on the other hand it is used to analyse the political culture, norms and expectation of the groups involved; the power relations between the state and the elites; and the values that guide and sustain livelihood practices. It is helpful in examining and interpreting moments of ruptures where the structural inequalities particularly caused by capital accumulation and supported or favoured through state regulation are metabolised through norms, meaning and practice, which may strengthen patterns of capital accumulation that regulate social structure but can also alter them. It is true that at times the concept also seems to valorise violence and raises the question as to whether non-violence or the Gandhian approach to protest or civil disobedience could be a means to achieve the objective as discussed in the moral economy of violence. It thus offers a theoretical tool to identify the goals and objective of the people involved and offers political theorists and scholars a paradigm to build a political system that addresses social, political and economic issues both at the micro and macro level with the possibility of being complementary to liberalism, socialism, Marxism and other political arrangements.

Security issues in international relations, particularly during the era of the Cold War, were and had been dominated by the realist paradigm which saw the preservation of the state from external threat. Such a conception of security provided a very myopic and narrow understanding of the security problem of states, particularly smaller states. During the past decade, attempts are being made to broaden the security agenda to include not only military but also other sectors: political, economic, societal and ecological. Furthermore, with globalisation and the opening up of the economy has provided scope for cross-border migration and also illicit trade, especially narcotics, terrorism and a dangerous mix of both: narco-terrorism. This article will throw a light on the non-traditional security threats problem and issues of illicit drug trafficking and narco-terrorism in North-east India particularly in the case of Manipur.
