Tracing the footprints of scholarly influence in academia: a contextual smart citation analysis of highly cited articles using Scite Bwsrang Basumatary, Nijwm Basumatary, J. Vivekavardhan, Manoj Kumar Verma Global Knowledge Memory and Communication, 2026 Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate the context and background of citations received by the top 100 highly cited articles published in the top five Emerald journals from 2014 to 2023. Furthermore, it proposes a novel method for tracing scholarly influence through contextual smart citation analysis using Scite. Design/methodology/approach This study used bibliometric techniques, as the entire analysis was based on the bibliographical records of publications. The top five journals published by Emerald were identified based on CiteScore, and the top 100 highly cited articles were selected. Later, the citing documents associated with the top 100 articles were extracted from Scite, an emerging platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) to provide a comprehensive understanding of citations. Collected data were processed and analyzed using MS Excel, Google Sheets, and Tableau. Findings The study found that most of the citing documents were published by Emerald and the journal Supply Chain Management: An International Journal was the leading journal where the highest number of citing documents were published. A total of 5,995 citations were concentrated in the “Introduction/Conceptual framework/Theoretical background” sections followed by “Literature review” (2,224), “Method/Tools/Techniques” (988), “Analysis/Result/Discussion” (2,478) and “Conclusion/Future Research Direction” (269) sections. The study also found that the most numbers of citations were “mentioning cites”. Originality/value The study explored the context and background of citations to scholarly articles using Scite and introduced Scite as an innovative tool in citation analysis, providing a promising avenue for future research in assessing academic impacts.
Search engines and meta search engines for effective information retrieval and scholarly communication J. Vivekavardhan Information Retrieval and Management Concepts Methodologies Tools and Applications, 2018 Search Engines (SEs) and Meta-Search Engines (MSEs) are the tools that allows people to find information on the World Wide Web. SEs and MSEs on internet have improved continually with application of new methodologies to satisfy their users by providing them with relevant information. Understanding and Utilization of SEs and MSEs are useful for information scientist, knowledge manager, librarians and most importantly for authors and researchers for effective information retrieval and scholarly communication. The paper explores on how Search Engines and Meta-Search Engines discover web pages, indexes content, and provide search results. The paper discusses about the technological evolution of SEs and MSEs, working process and different types of SEs and MSEs. Finally paper presents conclusions and suggestions for further research.
Metadata diversity, interoperability and resource discovery issues and challenges P. Ramesh, J. Vivekavardhan, K. Bharathi Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology, 2015 Information resources are available in various kinds of media and forms. To describe them there exists number of diverse metadata standards and schema. Metadata is crucial for preservation and archiving, organisation, resource discovery and information retrieval across platforms. As one metadata standard cannot be applicable for all the emerging media and document formats, a combination of them is used. In this context the present paper presents an overview on types of metadata standards and schemas, and also discusses on the issues and challenges in metadata creation, management, interoperability, and resource discovery.
