Psico Usf, 2026
This study aimed to conduct a cross-cultural adaptation and examine validity evidence for the Engaging Leadership Scale in samples of Brazilian employees and leaders. The adaptation process comprised translation, back-translation, expert evaluation, and focus groups. Two cross-sectional studies were conducted: Study 1 included a general sample of 425 employees, whereas Study 2 comprised 131 leaders from the judiciary. In Study 1, confirmatory factor analysis indicated an excellent fit for the unidimensional model (χ2/df = 3.85; comparative fit index = 0.996; Tucker-Lewis index = 0.996; root mean square error of approximation [90% confidence interval] = 0.082 [0.070-0.094]) and high reliability (ω = 0.969). In Study 2, the unidimensional structure was supported, with satisfactory reliability (ω = 0.896) and convergent validity (r = 0.473; p < 0.001). Overall, the findings indicate that the Engaging Leadership Scale demonstrates adequate psychometric properties for Brazilian employees and provides encouraging preliminary evidence for its application among leaders.
• Physical exercise and symptoms of depression and anxiety in college students: a systematic review with meta-analysis
Mayra Grava Moraes, Vinicius Nagy Soares, Tatiana De Cássia Ramos Netto, Carlos Eduardo Lopes Verardi
Retos, 2025
The prevalence and diagnosis of cases of university students with emotional health problems is increasing, and thus, we be-lieve in the positive and beneficial effects of physical exercise as a viable intervention for the prevention of anxiety and de-pression in this population. Given this context, this research aimed to investigate the effects of exercise or physical activity on depression and/or anxiety in university students, following the recommendations of the PRISMA Declaration. The search was carried out in the Pubmed, Scopus, Scielo, Lilacs and PsycInfo databases, until January 2021. In search strategy was used: “physical exercise” [or] “physical activity” [ and] depression [or] anxiety [and] students [or] “university students”. Although research limitations have been found, physical exercise can be an important element to be considered in the treatment and prevention of psychopathologies such as those represented here. It is believed, therefore, that the interventions proved to be effective, especially for the reality and routine of young university students, who have peculiar characteristics and inaccuracies in identifying and treating them properly. In addition, it can be an affordable option for its implementation, on university campuses, and it can also be combined with psychotherapeutic interventions, or even pharmacological ones in cases identified with this need.

Danielle Akemi Neves-Xavier, Anita Liberalesso Neri, Daniela de Assumpção, Vinícius Nagy Soares, Roberta de Oliveira Máximo, et al.
Journal of Applied Gerontology, 2025
Objective To investigate whether dysphagia symptoms are associated with the incidence of physical pre-frailty and frailty in older adults. Methods A sample of 149 participants without pre-frailty or frailty at baseline was analyzed. Data were collected at baseline and at a 9-year follow-up. A multinomial regression model was run and controlled for socioeconomic, behavioral, and clinical characteristics. Results Many participants (41.6%) had dysphagia symptoms. Dysphagia symptoms were associated with physical pre-frailty (RR = 2.37, 95%CI 1.02–5.50) and frailty (RR = 3.64, 95%CI 1.01–13.21). Conclusion Dysphagia symptoms are associated with an increased likelihood of incident physical pre-frailty and frailty in community-dwelling older adults. Thus, early multidisciplinary identification of dysphagia symptoms in older adults can help prevent pre-frailty and frailty in this population.
• Protocol for a hybrid type I randomized controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness and implementation of a nurse home visiting program for adolescent pregnancy on maternal and infant outcomes
Natália Becker, Vinícius Nagy Soares, Débora Tseng Chou, Emilio Abelama Neto, Letícia Aparecida da Silva, et al.
Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2025
BackgroundAdolescent pregnancy poses significant public health challenges, particularly among vulnerable populations. Nurse home visiting programs, such as Primeiros Laços, show promise in improving maternal and child health outcomes, yet their integration into primary healthcare remains underexplored, especially in low-resource settings.Aimto evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of integrating Primeiros Laços into primary healthcare services across two municipalities of the state of São Paulo, Brazil.MethodA hybrid type I randomized controlled trial will be conducted to assess both the clinical effectiveness and implementation feasibility of the program. The study will enroll 200 pregnant adolescents (aged 14–24), who will be randomized into two groups: an intervention group, receiving up to 38 structured nurse home visits from pregnancy until the child’s 24th month, and a control group, receiving standard care. The home visits will focus on promoting maternal and child health, positive parenting practices, and secure mother-infant attachment. Data collection will include validated tools to assess maternal mental health (Alcohol, Smoking, and Substance Involvement Screening Test - ASSIST, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale – EPDS, Tilburg Pregnancy Distress Scale – TPDS, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 - GAD-7), infant development (Infant Behavior Questionnaire – Revised - IBQ-R, Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development - Bayley-III, and Ages and Stages Questionnaire - ASQ-3), mother-infant interactions (Ainsworth’s Maternal Sensitivity Scales, and Maternal Postnatal Attachment Scale), and the quality of the home environment (Infant/Toddler Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment - IT-HOME). Implementation outcomes will be evaluated using the EPIS (Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment) framework, semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders (e.g., healthcare providers, program staff, and participants), and the Program Sustainability Assessment Tool to identify factors influencing long-term program viability. Quantitative data will be analyzed using an intention-to-treat approach, while qualitative data will undergo thematic analysis to identify barriers and facilitators to program integration.Expected resultsThe intervention is hypothesized to improve maternal and infant outcomes, such as prenatal care adherence, breastfeeding rates, and cognitive and emotional development, while fostering positive parenting practices and secure mother-infant attachment. The implementation analysis will identify key barriers and facilitators to program integration.ImpactThis study will provide evidence on the clinical and practical benefits of nurse home visiting programs for adolescent pregnancy in primary care, guiding their integration, scale-up, and potential adaptation for global maternal and child health initiatives. The findings aim to inform policymakers and healthcare providers on effective strategies to address adolescent pregnancy and improve health outcomes in low-resource settings.

Arquivos De Neuro Psiquiatria, 2024
Background The early identification of risk for dysphagia in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) is essential for the prevention of nutritional and pulmonary complications. Objective To analyze the sensitivity and specificity of the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire (SDQ-PD) and the Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) in identifying dysphagia risk in patients with early and intermediate stages of PD. Methods Twenty-nine patients with PD participated in the study. EAT-10 and SDQ-PD questionnaires were applied, and a videofluoroscopic swallowing study. Dysphagia Outcome and Severity Scale (DOSS) was used to classify the presence and severity of dysphagia, and the Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) was used to identify the presence of penetration/aspiration. In the statistical analysis, the sensitivity and specificity of the risk questionnaires were calculated, as well as positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy. Results EAT-10 to identify the risk of penetration/aspiration revealed a sensitivity of 71.42% and specificity of 45.45%; in the identification of the presence of dysphagia, the sensitivity was 47.61%, and the specificity was 12.5%. The SDQ-PD questionnaire for risk of penetration/aspiration demonstrated a sensitivity of 28.57%, and a specificity of 68.18%. In terms of identifying the presence of dysphagia, the sensitivity was 20%, while the specificity was 44.44%. Conclusion The SDQ-PD revealed low sensitivity and low specificity to identify the presence of dysphagia and/or penetration/aspiration in patients with early and intermediate stages of PD in this sample. Despite its low specificity, the EAT-10 exhibited good sensitivity in indicating the risk of penetration/aspiration.
• TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF GOALS SCORED IN FUTSAL: A COMPARISON OF TWO MODELS
Guilherme Moraes, Vinicius Soares, João Chiminazzo
Human Movement, 2022
Purpose. In futsal, the goal is the most important situation that can lead the teams to victory. the understanding of when they are scored can help adopting effective strategies, increasing the chances of victory. this study aimed to compare 2 models for analysing goals scored in futsal as a function of time. Methods. Overall, 1122 goals were analysed in 194 matches of the 2018 Brazilian Futsal League, male adult category. the playing time was divided into four 10-minute periods (conventional model) and eight 5-minute periods (alternative model). the goal occurrence was compared with mixed models of repeated measures, and the fit of models by Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC). Results. Both models were statistically significant ( p < 0.001), indicating that the means of goals were different depending on the periods. the conventional model showed that the mean of goals was higher in the final 10 minutes ( p < 0.001); the alternative model implied that from the seventh to the eighth period the mean of goals increased by 39.1% (95% CI: 0.27–0.64, p < 0.001). In addition, the 5-minute model revealed a better fit than the 10-minute model in accordance with AIC and BIC. Conclusions. this finding suggests that more reliable models are useful for better understanding of how the frequency of crucial events, such as goals, changes in the course of a match. We provide information for the coaching staff to strategi-cally think about the best situations for their teams to succeed in competitive matches.

Fisioterapia Em Movimento, 2020
Introduction: Although previous studies have characterized the sociodemographic profile and physical activity level of older people at the Universities of the Third Age (Unati - Universidade Aberta da Terceira Idade), there are research gaps regarding the relationship of these variables with the psychological aspects and the quality of life. Objective: To assess the relationship between sociodemographic and psychological variables, physical activity level and quality of life (QoL) in older people at Unati in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. Method: This is a cross-sectional study that recruited 116 older participants of both gender, aged between 60 and 89 years. They were submitted to the following tests: the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Wagnild & Young’s Resilience Scale (RS), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE), the WHOQOL BREF, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ20) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, chi-squared, Fisher’s exact, t- and Mann-Whitney U tests, as well as the generalized linear models. Results: Self-esteem was associated with age, income, schooling level, membership time, and the psychological domain of the WHOQOL-BREF (p < 0.05). Resilience was associated with the schooling level and the psychological domain of the WHOQOL-BREF (p < 0.05), and the self-efficacy with the psychological domain of the WHOQOL-BREF. Common mental disorders were related to the physical and psychological domains of the WHOQOL-BREF, as well as the self-efficacy and being male. The physical activity level showed no correlation with the psychological aspects and the sociodemographic variables studied (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The sociodemographic variables influence emotional aspects, particularly older people’s self-esteem and resilience at Unati. Additionally, the psychological domain of the WHOQOL-BREF was a predictor of all the emotional variables in this sample.

Ciencia E Saude Coletiva, 2019
