Green-synthesized titanium dioxide nanoparticles with pyrogallol functionalization: A novel approach using cow dung extract for anticancer applications Acharya, Sancharan, Behera, Akanksha, CS, Aswathy, Venugopal, Sujatha, Thiyagarajan, Ramesh, et al. International Journal of Nano Dimension, 2025 Growing interest has been shown in the environment friendly synthesis of metal nanoparticles, yet no published research exists on synthesizing titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) using cow dung extract (CD). In this manuscript, we synthesized TiO2NPs using CD extract (CD-TiO2) and functionalized them with pyrogallol (P-CD-TiO2). The physicochemical characteristics of the TiO2NPs were evaluated using UV-Vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The qualitative analysis of CD extract and biological activities of CD-TiO2 and P-CD-TiO2 were evaluated. The potential anticancer activity was examined in vitro against Hep3B using the MTT assay. The hydrodynamic size of CD-TiO2 and P-CD-TiO2NPs were 147.9nm and 183.4nm, respectively. The CD-TiO2 and P-CD-TiO2 were spherical in shape, with an average size ranging from 32nm to 48nm. CD-TiO2 and P-CD-TiO2 showed anti-hemolytic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activity, and significant cytotoxicity against Hep3B cells. The IC50 of CD-TiO2 was 379.9 μg/mL, while P-CD-TiO2 showed a significantly higher cytotoxic with an IC50 of 31.98 μg/mL. The results revealed that CD extract is effective reducing agents for TiO2 nanoparticles synthesis. Notably, the green-synthesized P-CD-TiO2NPs exhibited promising anticancer potential in concentration-dependent manner while being safe for red blood cells.
Gut Microbiome and Cancer: From Cancer Development to Therapeutics with a Special Focus on Hepatocellular Carcinoma Sancharan Acharya, Chinnasamy Thirunavukkarasu Frontiers in Bioscience Landmark, 2024 The body of a human has a vast array of microorganisms termed the microbiome that impacts almost every function of the body. Gene-environment interactions play a major role in making us susceptible to cancer and the microbiome is such an environmental factor that we are exposed to from the very beginning of our lives to the very end. Increasing pieces of evidence are pointing towards an association of cancer and the microbiome. The bacteria inside our body might help us prevent some cancers as well as may increase the risk of carcinogenesis and treatment responses. Many studies are suggesting that tinkering with the microbiome might be a new way to treat and prevent many kinds of cancer. Although information on the roles of the microbiome in carcinogenesis is scant and almost no direct links have been found between these two yet. This review offers some of the recent evidences of the association between cancer and the microbiome, discuss the impact of gut bacteria on cancer and provide a detailed discussion on gut microbiota mediated therapeutic approaches with a special focus on Hepatocellular Carcinoma. The implementation of the new knowledge discovered in this subject calls for a great deal of research.
Phyto-assisted eco-friendly fabrication of haemocompatible vanadium nanoparticles using Azadirachta indica leaf extract inherent with antioxidant and anti-bacterial activity Shreyoshi Guha, Sancharan Acharya, Thirunavukkarasu Chinnasamy Particulate Science and Technology, 2024 In the present investigation, vanadium nanoparticles (VNPs) were synthesized through green process that entailed the use of Azadirachta indica leaf extract from sodium metavanadate. The characterization of VNPs involved a multitude of techniques, namely UV-Vis spectroscopy, Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Analytical studies, such as UV-Vis spectra, established the band gap of 2.5 eV, demonstrating the semi-conductive nature of VNPs. According to DLS analysis, nanoparticles (NPs) had an average size of 113 nm. The subsequent characterization techniques validated the rod-shaped and crystalline structure of the NPs. Following the effective synthesis of NPs, antioxidant studies determined their in vitro radicle quenching competence against superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, and DPPH radicles. The VNPs exhibited an outstanding antioxidant potential and displayed a prominent protective effect in chicken erythrocytes subjected to H2O2-induced oxidative stress. Furthermore, VNPs were evaluated for anti-bacterial efficacy against various bacterial species, including Klebsiella aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Lactobacillus acidophilus, showing zones of inhibition at low doses. Thus, VNPs from Azadirachta indica leaf extract could be utilized in medicine as a preventative measure against oxidative stress and bacterial disorders.
