Determining priority strategies in realizing sustainable tourism on the island of Kalimantan: insights from a textual analysis Andi Syathir Sofyan, Ega Rusanti, Ayu Ruqayyah Yunus, Syaakir Sofyan Management and Sustainability, 2026 Purpose The natural resources on the island of Kalimantan have tourism potential that must be protected. This study aims to identify strategies for developing a sustainable tourism model that is responsive to the environmental context of Kalimantan Island. Design/methodology/approach We employ latent dirichlet allocation (LDA) to identify themes of strategies from 194 articles, grounded theory to develop a sustainable tourism model and the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to determine the priority of strategies that should be implemented. Findings The research results show interesting findings from two methodological perspectives, both of which emphasize ecofeminism. Partially, the LDA results demonstrate the need for rural tourism development, environmental tourism awareness strategies and revitalizing ecotourism. The GTA results identified three pillars of sustainability or selected coding: ecological sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability and economic sustainability. Furthermore, the AHP results indicate that the primary priority in realizing sustainable tourism is the government’s role in maintaining environmental sustainability. This task encompasses priority strategies, including destination monitoring, enhancing waste management, crisis management and disaster management, for the tourism sector. Research limitations/implications The proposed sustainable tourism model guides policymakers, tourism managers and communities in Kalimantan to prioritize environmental protection alongside economic gains. Its implementation requires policy reform, eco-innovation and extensive public outreach to promote environmental awareness among domestic tourists. Originality/value This study advances sustainable tourism development by proposing a stakeholder theory grounded triple bottom line model, incorporating a fringe stakeholder perspective through text-based analysis.
Islam in business ethics research: a bibliometric analysis and future research agenda Andi Syathir Sofyan, Ega Rusanti, Nurmiati Nurmiati, Syaakir Sofyan, Robert Kurniawan, Rezzy Eko Caraka International Journal of Ethics and Systems, 2024 Purpose This study aims to determine research performance in Islamic business ethics and explore future research directions from leading articles and scholars. Design/methodology/approach This paper used bibliometric and content analysis to analyze 250 articles from reputable Scopus and Web of Sciences journals. Findings To date, the normative style still dominates Islamic business ethics research. Asian countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia are the center of discussion on Islamic business ethics. This study also suggests that researchers and academics study aspects of the economy that Islamic values have not touched, such as the theme of art, artificial intelligence for labor relations, workers' rights and language. Research limitations/implications This research aims to contribute knowledge to Muslims as a reference guide for ethical business behavior. Non-Muslim managers can use this paper as a guide in forming a global company that is pluralistic and respectful of religious communities. Originality/value This research makes a scholarly contribution by providing a comprehensive exploration and detailed future research directions in each subtheme of Islamic business ethics.
Crisis and disaster management for halal tourism: a systematic review Andi Syathir Sofyan, Abror Abror, Trisno Wardy Putra, Muslihati Muslihati, Syaakir Sofyan, Sirajuddin Sirajuddin, Muhammad Nasri Katman, Andi Zulfikar Darussalam Tourism Review, 2022 Purpose This paper aims to provide a primary contribution to the halal tourism industry by presenting a crisis and disaster management framework based on Islamic teachings. Design/methodology/approach To develop the framework, a systematic review was conducted using the grounded theory step as an analytical framework through tracing papers from 2000 to 2020. The first step was to carry out an open coding by collecting extracted concepts and categories. Furthermore, axial coding was carried out to connect among the categories. Selective coding was conducted to all identified categories, and they were then integrated to develop a framework. The results obtained are three selected coding, eight axial coding and 55 open coding. Findings The result indicates that Islam teaches much principles, behavioral responses and psychological responses to crises and disasters. However, it is not neatly arranged in a modern crisis and disaster management concept. In addition, the advantage for halal tourism is that Muslims make Islamic teachings the foundation of social and community resilience in the face of disasters. Research limitations/implications The research findings also provide the knowledge to the tourism planners and academicians in overcoming the crises and disasters. Originality/value This paper provides a crisis and disaster management framework with additional decision-making concepts using a maqasid matrix.
