The Use of KOBEL Brick for Repairing Soil that Subsides Due to Water Flow Susilawati Cicilia Laurentia, Indah Wahyuning Tyas Civil Engineering and Architecture, 2023 The flow of water in the sub-soil tends to transport fine soil particles to other places. This happens, especially during heavy rains, where rainwater that seeps into the ground, flows carrying fine particles into the pond, and causes the soil surface to subside in certain parts. This encourages a study to be carried out to apply KOBEL bricks to overcome this. KOBEL bricks have 2 holes with a diameter of 5 cm, when arranged, they will form a pipe that can regulate the flow of water, so it does not carry fine grains that flow or are eroded. The simple concept of providing available water flow can prevent soil erosion and minimize the negative impact on soil subsidence due to water flow in the soil. KOBEL bricks are made from soil base material that is pressed up to 62.5%, applied as soil improvement, so that the soil surface becomes stable and does not sink anymore. From the results of the application of the KOBEL brick for the subsided soil surface, it turns out that the surface is no longer sinking. It can be concluded that the use of KOBEL bricks which is very easy to do and requires very low cost can be used to overcome soil subsidence due to water flow in the soil.
Managing Rainwater in Rukuramba Village for Water, Food and Energy Security Susilawati Cicilia Laurentia, Ika Sari Damayanthi Sebayang, Indah Wahyuning Tyas Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2023 Rainwater is a very potential water resource. Managing rainwater can provide water availability for households and family farms, which in turn can improve food security. The available water can also be used as a micro hydro power plant (PLTMH). This encourages research to determine sustainable rainwater management policies. First, it is important to analyse the climatology of the area to determine the characteristics of rainfall, namely the potential and distribution of existing rainfall patterns, so that the available water potential can be determined. Second, an investigation regarding the suitability of the soil for crops in the area is based on the Agro Ecological Zoning method, which the crop length growth period was also considers to find the efficient planting date. This will ensure optimal crop yields with efficient water requirements. Third, further study of the applied rainwater management system is related to the potential for renewable energy. Finally, it can be concluded that by managing the potential for rainwater in Rukuramba village, the water needs for households, family farming, and energy are available. Fulfilling the needs of water for households, agriculture and energy has made Rukuramba village independent and prosperous due to a significant economic increase.
Mbay city's eco-hydraulic concept leads to sustainable water supply and management C L Susilawati, Hartono Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2021 Mbay City is a lowland city flanked by rows of mountains and agricultural rice fields. This barren mountain range causes rainwater mostly flow towards the urban lowlands, as flood. The city of Mbay which consists of 3 different regional groups, namely mountains-lowlands-rice fields, encourages a sustainable water supply and management with an eco-hydraulic concept. First, it is necessary to understand the terms eco-hydraulics, sustainable water management and sustainable water supply as well. Furthermore, we can find the right innovation to handle the three distinctive areas of the different Mbay cities. Mountain areas need water conservation that applies ecological concepts, while urban plains need hydraulic handling to drain flood water from the city, and rice fields also need ecological handling so that rice fields are protected from overflowing sea water when high tide occurs. Finally, it can be said that the integrated handling of ecology and hydraulics concepts has made the city of Mbay able to manage and supply water in a sustainable manner.

The problem is that the cost of building materials produced not affordable by people in rural areas or for the lower-middle-class people. The buildings in the city are magnificent, but in contrary, in the village many houses still consist of bamboo-wall and leaf-roof. Some tried to build their houses using bricks, but they could not finish the building construction due to limited budget for purchasing material. It encourages for development of an environmentally friendly, safe and cheap building material: lock-brick. Villagers could make this material by themself since the raw materials are soils plus a little cement with a ratio between 1:8-10. First, this technology was piloted for simple house building, then for dormitories building and household-scale rainwater management, consisting of rainwater reservoir and runoff catchment ditches. Then, this system implemented for retaining-walls construction and currently also being tested for campus parking area. The trials results are good, and the construction costs are also much cheaper. It could reduce by 50%. Once again, the construction is very environmentally friendly, so can be said that this lock-brick system is an ecological building material innovation.

Lock-brick System for Sustainable and Environment Infrastructure Building Materials Susilawati, Indah Wahyuning Tyas Iop Conference Series Materials Science and Engineering, 2018 The community participation is expected to realize the appropriate housing. But the financial condition does not support, so that appropriate housing to be half constructed, which eventually became jammed unsustainable. Lock-brick system building construction can be implemented for appropriate housing and water infrastructure, such as small ponds and retaining wall construction. Lock-bricks are made from soil as the main ingredients added a little cement, thoroughly mixed in dry conditions, has dampened with water to a level sufficiently moist. Then, pressed with a pressing machine to 60%, forming interlocked bricks when arranged to form the walls of the liveable house. Columns, beams or retaining walls can be constructed with this system. Similarly, other water basin infrastructure such as rainwater catchers-canals can be constructed with this system. Lock-brick systems are used for a wide range of building infrastructure while considering the strength of the structure, so as to meet the standards. Various examples of usability have been done for the simple building liveable housing, student dormitories building, rain water reservoir, runoff catchment canals, soil retaining walls, and pavement floor. The usability, simple, easy to make and cheap, making this lock-brick system can support the development of sustainable infrastructure and built environment.
