Circulating Current Controller in Modular Multilevel Converter for Drive Application - A Comparative Analysis Sujo Oommen, Venkatesh Murthy B S 2024 IEEE 4th International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Future Electric Transportation Sefet 2024, 2024 Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has become most noticeable and popular power converter technology suitable for high/medium-power drive system applications. It possesses unique advantages like modularity in structure, better harmonic performances, redundancy etc. During operational condition of MMC, inevitable flow of circulating currents through its each arm and which in turn leads to power losses, rise in the ratings of the devices in the overall converter system. Various circulating current suppression methods are studied by the researchers for the effective reduction in rms values and mitigation of harmonics contents in circulating currents. In the paper describes the comparative analysis of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of different control strategies for the MMC circulating current control in drive system for efficient operation. MATLAB Simulation Studies are carried out for the various control approaches for circulating current strategies for MMC.
Development of ECO-Smart Energy Saving and Safety Management System in Food Producing Industry Burri Ankaiah, Sujo Oommen, Abdul Amaan, Anjali Kumari, Ishani H Jain 2023 World Conference on Communication and Computing Wconf 2023, 2023 Nowadays, optimized energy utilization plays a vital role because rapid industrialization and urban growth has led to serious impact on energy consumption and carbon emissions. Energy generation is moving towards renewable sources from coal, petroleum etc. (Non-renewable). Large scale food production industry face challenges in different sectors such as environment, mobility, waste and water management. This invention analyses the challenges of energy management system and improvises particularly for food industry. Generally, large scale food producing places are airports, railway stations, temples etc. This smart and safe monitoring system is modelled after these kinds of sensors: the DTH11 sensor monitors the temperature and humidity of the kitchen, the flame sensor detects fire in the kitchen’s surroundings, the boiler temperature sensor detects high temperature of boiler, the MQ-135 sensor detects gas leaks in the kitchen, the water leakage sensor detects any water leakage, the earthquake sensor detects any vibration or earthquake and the float sensor detects the water level placed in a water tank. Through its analog and digital pins, the data gathered by the sensors in response to changes in the kitchen-that is, changes that go above a user-set threshold limit-will be sent to Arduino UNO. The LCD display will simultaneously show the changes in the kitchen environment. This intelligent and safe monitoring system is controlled primarily by Arduino UNO. The following course of action will be determined using the data acquired by the sensors and supplied by Arduino UNO. Using GSM, the alert messages are sent to the management’s mobile phone, where appropriate actions are taken, such as spraying water with the help of a water pump in the event of a fire, pumping of water during low level of water in tank, beeping of buzzer in case of any water leakage or high boiler temperature resulting in switching off of boiler loads thereby conserving energy, tripping of MCB in case of earthquake, fire, gas or water leakage and turning on an exhaust fan in the event of high temperatures, humidity, or gas leaks. Automation of food production, simplicity of food supply, and auditing of the amount of food delivered are essential for managing energy use and reducing food waste. An IR sensor that is managed by an Arduino is used to audit the number of packages. The sensor counts the delivered parcels and shows that number on the LCD. Using solar panels and a high-capacity battery, enough power is generated to run the entire system.

Introduction and Development of Cyber Physical Systems in Smart Grid with Blockchain Technology to Enhance Sustainability P. Valarmathi, G. Manoj, Sandip Kumar Das, Sujo Oommen, Mohit Tiwari Proceedings of the 2023 2nd International Conference on Augmented Intelligence and Sustainable Systems Icaiss 2023, 2023 The need for increased sustainability and efficiency in the energy industry has led to a major increase in interest in the development of cyber-physical systems (CPS) in the smart grid domain in recent years. In the context of the smart grid, the term "CPS" refers to a network of physical objects, sensors, and communication systems that are interconnected and allow for the smooth exchange of data and control signals to optimize the production, distribution, and use of electricity. Demand response, energy management, and grid optimization are just a few of the smart grid applications that can be successfully implemented by utilizing CPS's capabilities. On the other side, blockchain technology provides a decentralized and secure framework for logging and validating transactions among numerous organizations. Since it is distributed, there is no need for middlemen, transparency is improved, and data integrity and immutability are all guaranteed. These qualities make blockchain an excellent choice for tackling the issues that the smart grid is facing, such as data privacy, security, and stakeholder confidence. There are many advantages to integrating blockchain and CPS in the smart grid. First and foremost, a decentralized and democratized energy market is made possible by blockchain, which enables safe and effective peer-to-peer energy trade among prosumers. This increases sustainability by encouraging the use of renewable energy sources and reducing dependency on centralized power generation. In conclusion, there is enormous potential for improving sustainability through the smart grid's integration of blockchain technology with cyber-physical systems.

Q-Learning Based Reinforcement Learning Controller for Concentration Control of Food Preparation Macharla Supriya, Kasanagottu Srilatha, Smitha S P, Sujo Oommen, Hemantha C, et al. Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Inventive Research in Computing Applications Icirca 2023, 2023 Food preservation is the practice of preparing food in such a way that its beneficial characteristics (sensory and nutritional) are maintained for as long as feasible after preparation. Water elimination and reduction of water content are the basis of the food preservation theory. Maintaining concentration at a particular level is crucial in the food manufacturing industry. Common processing equipment in the food industry is the Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CS TR). The CS TR's function is to keep the reactor's internal temperature and product concentration constant. This study aims to keep the product concentration constant using two different controllers. The first is a traditional Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller, and the second is a Reinforcement Learning (RL) controller based on Q-learning. A mathematical model of the CS TR is constructed, and the controllers are developed. The concentration of the product is set to the specific value and allows the controller to track it. Error measures such as Mean Squared Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) are used to assess the performance of each controller. The RL controller shows promising results in terms of error metrics, suggesting that it may be a viable option for maintaining concentration in food industries.
