Facile synthesis of Mn doped ZnO for the sensing of ammonia SaravanaVadivu Arunachalam, Subramanian Balamurali, Rajan Suresh, Balasubramanian Selvakumar, Dhanushkodi Sivaganesh Chemical Physics Impact, 2024 The variation of possessions of Mn doped in ZnO thin films grown by SILAR technique for various Mn concentrations presented. Thin films of Mn doped ZnP were deposited and uniformly annealed at 300°C for a 30 min. The annealed films are then characterized by various methods like XRD, SEM, EDAX, VSM respectively. The x-ray diffraction studies confirm the emergence of ZnO. From the SEM, various morphologies were identified based on concentration of the solution bath employed. Due to this reason, spherical shoot, rice and flower morphologies were observed on the surface of the films. These morphologies may influence the application of ammonia gas sensor. From compositional analysis (EDAX), the presence of dopant and the variation in composition of doped materials were estimated. Magnetic studies shows, these films show ferromagnetic behaviour at room temperature. The ammonia gas response of the Mn doped ZnO thin films varied with Mn concentration of 0, 5 and 10. The outcomes of the gas sensing experiments showed that the Mn doped ZnO thin film was more sensitive to ammonia, but that sensitivity decreased as gas pressure increased. Ammonia gas showed an increase in the acidic surface properties of Mn-doped ZnO thin film. At room temperature, Mn-doped ZnO (0%, 5% and 10%) showed responses of 19.20, 27.61 and 32.26 to 100 ppm NH3 gas, which were significantly higher than those of ZnO. The Mn-doped ZnO sensor shows excellent selectivity compared to ZnO and has good stability.
Nicotine sensing behavior of nickel(II) complexes catalyzed oxidation and coupling reactions Madaselvi Rathinam, Paranthaman Vijayan, Selvakumar Balasubramanian, Sasikumar Ponnusamy, Arunachalam SaravanaVadivu, Mohamed Abbas, Brindha Banu Balakrishnan Heliyon, 2024 One of the main source of demise during the next ten years will be coronary heart disease and stroke, which are brought on by smoking (nicotine). To identify the percentage (%) of nicotine consumption by electrocatalytic sensor towards nicotine for target-specific prevent stroke, four uninuclear Ni 2+ complexes of substituted butanimidamide Schiff base ligands [H 2 L 1-4 ] was prepared. All the complexes were thoroughly analyzed by using several spectroscopic techniques such as CHNS analysis, FT-IR, NMR ( 1 H & 13 C) UV–Vis and NMR. The analyses showed tetradentate binding mode of ligand around nickel(II) metal ion leads to the structure of square planar with N 2 X 2 (X = O, S) donor fashion. In addition, the well-defined nickel(II) complexes were utilized for oxidation of various alcohols such as cyclohexanol, and benzyl alcohol were produced to the assorted oxidized products with high yield respectively using greener co-oxidant (molecular oxygen). In addition, Nickel(II) complexes was further utilized as catalyst for aryl-aryl coupling reaction via Suzuki-Mayura method to obtain biphenyl compound. Furthermore, nickel(II) complexes were exploited for electrochemical detection of nicotine sensing in μM concentration.
Green Synthesis of Metal Oxide-Based Electrode Materials for Supercapacitor Electrode P. Periasamy, Murthy Chavali, Maria Plamenova Nikolova, Mohamed Bououdina, B. Selvakumar, K. Senthil Kannan Sustainable Green Synthesised Nano Dimensional Materials for Energy and Environmental Applications, 2024 Renewable energy sources have gained attention as promising, economically viable, and environmentally friendly alternatives to address the concerns surrounding climate change and the eventual depletion of non-renewable fossil fuel resources (Figure 1). It is important to note that significant portions of renewable energy sources are intermittent or variable. Therefore, there is a need to develop effective storage techniques to ensure a constant and reliable supply of energy. The most common kind of storage system in use right now is a secondary battery (Dubal et al. 2017). The power density of batteries is modest despite their high-energy density. The chemical nature of energy storage in batteries leads to physicochemical changes in the electrolytes and electrodes during charging and discharging. Unfortunately, these changes have a negative impact on both the battery life and cyclability. Because of this, their employment in energy storage is limited. However, supercapacitors are superior to batteries in terms of power density and cycle stability (Latha et al. 2021, Palanisamy et al. 2019). Despite their potential benefits, batteries are often deemed impractical for energy storage due to their low energy density, high effective series resistance, and relatively high cost. According to a comparison of energy density between supercapacitors, lead-acid batteries, and lithium-ion batteries, the energy density of supercapacitors is lower than that of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, but they outperform secondary batteries in terms of power density, life cycle, cyclability, and safety. They are getting a lot of buzz for their potential as a novel energy storage (Simon and Gogotsi 2008).
