  • From resistance to readiness: AI anxiety in academic libraries through a bibliometric outlook
Saddam Hossain, Abid Fakhre Alam, Naved Ahmad, Md Sohail
    Reference Services Review, 2026
Purpose AI has rapidly changed academic libraries with applications like chatbots, automated cataloging, classification and data-driven decision-making. Artificial intelligence (AI) anxiety is a new type of technostress that library services are experiencing as a result of the rapid adoption of AI technologies, even with its advantages of library. The purpose of this study was to conduct a comprehensive study of existing research on AI anxiety in academic libraries and analyze it using bibliometrics. Design/methodology/approach The study employs the bibliometrics and content analysis approach, which uses both numerical and visualization techniques to identify the extant research retrieved from the Web of Science and Scopus databases from 1996 to 2025. Author and country collaboration networks, hotspot distribution clustering and historical citation networks associated with AI anxiety were visualized by VOS viewer and R Studio. Findings A total of 128 literature were eventually included. The number of AI anxiety publications has increased drastically since 2023. Growth trends, geographical area, leading journals and authors are identified. Top documents are indicated, with main and trending topics, which provide suggestions for researchers who conduct research in this field. Numerous studies on AI anxiety in academic libraries have been published in high-impact sources. Originality/value To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive and in-depth bibliometric research of trends and developments on AI anxiety literature. This study offers useful insights for policymakers, library professionals and researchers by identifying unexplored areas and outlining a strategy for reducing AI anxiety in academic library environments.
  • Digital Learning: Exploring Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use of Open Educational Resources
Raj Kishor Kampa, Shiv Shankar Jha, Jayaram Gouda, Md Sohail
    Science and Technology Libraries, 2026
The present study investigates the purpose, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and attitude toward open educational resources (OER) among postgraduate students at a state university in Odisha, India. A structured questionnaire was distributed to students to evaluate the purposes of using OER, including their perceptions. The survey received responses from 285 students across various disciplines. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in IBM SPSS version 22. The study’s findings revealed that university students use OER to supplement their textbooks and lectures (58.9%), address personal educational needs (59.3%), and access updated content in their subjects (35.4%). The study’s findings showed that university students had a generally positive attitude toward OER, perceiving it as useful and easy to access. University students opined that the provision of OER is a good idea (mean = 4.34, SD = 0.71) and viewed it as promoting lifelong learning (mean = 4.26, SD = 0.64). Furthermore, the study revealed a significant difference in the perceived usefulness (t(283) = 1.99, p = .047) and perceived ease of use (OER, t(283) = 3.48, p = .001) of OER between the students from business, social sciences, and humanities and science and technology disciplines. Additionally, this paper outlines the activities that libraries can initiate to increase awareness and optimal usage of OER.

  • Information Literacy Instructions in Higher Education Institutions: Enhancing Academic Success and Research Competencies among University Students in the United Arab Emirates
    Zafar Imam Khan, Md. Sohail
Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology, 2025
The study explores the impact of Information Literacy (IL) programs on undergraduate students on their learning outcomes and performance in terms of research skills required for academic writing. The study also investigates the significant differences of learning outcomes in terms of gender, year of program and EFL/Non-EFL learners. Through systematic quantitative analysis involving 102 participants using stratified random sampling across multiple universities in the United Arab Emirates, this study seeks to validate assumptions regarding the correlation between information literacy and its significance in academic and research achievement. Findings revealed that there was moderate to higher level improvement in students’ critical thinking and overall research skills, with notable advances observed in academic integrity awareness, database searching techniques and source evaluations, whereas citation practices and advanced search strategies need more improvement. Some correlations were also found between IL program usefulness and improvement in academic performance, time utilisation and citation skills. The key findings of this study will underscore the transformative potential of information literacy programs and highlight the need to customize them as per the requirements in academic libraries as learning centers and their essential role in fostering student competencies that correspond with educational and professional success. Recommendations include targeted intervention, curriculum-integrated IL workshops and adoption of citation management tools.
  • An Investigation on the Digital Collection Development Competency and Training Needs of Library Professionals in Pakistan
    Asma Nosheen, Md. Sohail
International Information and Library Review, 2025
This study investigates the specific requirements for training and enhancing digital collections management for library professionals in Pakistan. The approach is centered around three primary objectives: ascertaining the professional training prerequisites for library professionals overseeing digital collections; assessing the extent of progress in digital collections within university libraries; and pinpointing the obstacles encountered by librarians and library professionals in this domain. The findings indicate a significant deficiency in resources and training for professionals, highlighting the need for specialized training in areas such as digital copyright and preservation techniques. Recommendations for enhancing digital library services encompass more financial resources and targeted training programs. This study addresses significant subjects such as misunderstandings regarding digital libraries, inadequate technological infrastructure, a shortage of skilled workers, copyright difficulties, cultural and digital obstacles, and financial constraints. Resolving these challenges not only has the potential to expedite the establishment of digital libraries in Pakistan but also has the capacity to serve as a model for other developing countries.

  • Attitude of Library Professionals Towards Information Communication Technology in the Select Central University Libraries of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh
    Zeba Khanam, Mohd Sohail
Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology, 2024
With the advent of new technological transformations in libraries and information centres, library professionals have experienced major challenges with changes in the generation, creation, dissemination, and preservation of knowledge in libraries. The objectives of the present study are to find out the hindrances to implementing ICT, and incorporation in libraries has a prominent place in fulfilling the needs of users, but one must not ignore the fact that ICT is not only the factor responsible for achieving the goals of libraries; it is also the library professional’s positive attitude that endorses the implementation of the same. There are many factors that can help library professionals develop a positive attitude, including prior knowledge, proper training, and continuing education like in-service courses, workshops, and seminars. If the staff of the library shows a positive attitude towards the adoption of ICT in their organisation, it will raise their self-confidence, thereby increasing productivity, while also raising their morale and motivation among colleagues. On the other hand, a negative attitude will raise high levels of anxiety, lower levels of self-efficacy, technophobia, cyberphobia, and fear of losing their jobs. The negative attitudes of library professionals are the main hindrance to the implementation of ICT in libraries. The present study’s findings can advance our understanding of ICT adoption in libraries and provide practical recommendations for maximizing the use of ICT resources in library services. The study concluded that the major objectives have been accomplished by those in the library industry who adopt a critical stance toward the adoption and rejection of new technologies
