  • Unitized Double Sided Linear Switched Reluctance Motor with Auxiliary Winding for Rope Less Elevators
    Anusha Vadde, Sachin S
2024 3rd International Conference on Power Control and Computing Technologies Icpc2t 2024, 2024
This paper analyze the Double Sided Linear Switched Reluctance Motor (DSLS-RM) with auxiliary winding for rope less elevators. Linear switched reluctance motor are two types based on the structure, single sided and double sided linear switched reluctance motor. Power electronic devices achieve the modulation of the speed and force developed in the linear motors. Instead, an auxiliary winding can used and modulation of force and speed can be achieved in the double sided linear switched reluctance motor. By using an auxiliary winding in double sided linear switched reluctance motor the flux weakening and strengthening will occurs in the stator, due to which the modulation of force and speed is possible without any power electronic devices. Due to addition of auxiliary winding in the stator the four modes of operation is possible by changing the direction of excitation of the windings. The modulation of force and speed for the DSLS-RM is analyzed using FEA analysis tool (ANSYS Maxwell). The experimental model of the double sided linear switched reluctance motor has been set up, analyzed and compared with simulation results.
  • Investigation of Core Loss in Electric Vehicle Induction Motor Using Finite Element Analysis for Performance Enhancement
    Sachin S, Krishnan Manickavasagam, A T Sriram
2024 3rd International Conference on Power Control and Computing Technologies Icpc2t 2024, 2024
Temperature rise in a 3ϕ, Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC)., Squirrel Cage Induction Motor (SCIM) used in Electric Vehicles (EV) is effected by core loss. The temperature rise is a function of core loss and other losses. Since, the core loss components eddy current and hysteresis losses are a function of flux and flux density, Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to obtain average maximum flux density at different loads. Core loss is varying with respect to load and hence temperature rise, resistance value, starting torque to maximum torque $(\\displaystyle \\frac{T_{st}}{T_{\\max}})$ ratio and current drawn at $(\\displaystyle \\frac{T_{st}}{T_{\\max}})$ also varies which is so far assumed constant in reality. The analysis is made on the effect of core loss on SCIM used in EV for performance enhancement. The results reveals that when the variable core loss is considered, temperature rise is reduced and the SCIM rating is enhanced for 20%.
  • Comparative Analysis to Predict the Temperature Rise in 3ɸ-Squirrel Cage Induction Motor using Lumped Parameter Thermal Model and Finite Element Method for Industrial Applications
    S. Sachin, Krishnan Manickavasagam, A. T. Sriram
Journal of Mines Metals and Fuels, 2023
The 3ɸ - Squirrel Cage Induction Motor (SCIM) used in industrial are prone to thermal breakdown due to its working conditions. Losses in the motor cause rise in temperature. Losses estimation of the 3ɸ - SCIM play a very important role in analyzing the electrical and thermal performances. In this paper a Lumped Parameter Thermal Model (LPTM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to estimate the temperature rise in 3ɸ - SCIM. The temperature rise is obtained considering loss, with load variation between no-load to full load conditions, this enables to analyse the application of induction motor in mines. In addition to that a comparative analysis is carried out between Lumped Parameter Thermal Model (LPTM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) to determine the effective method to estimate temperature rise and determine the relative percentage error in temperature rise at various elements of 3ɸ - SCIM.
  • A Generalized Mathematical Model to Predict Core Loss of 15kw 3Φ-Squirrel Cage Induction Motor at Various Load for Industrial Applications
    S. Sachin, Krishnan Manickavasagam, A. T. Sriram
Journal of Mines Metals and Fuels, 2023
The demand for effective operation of induction motor has become necessary in industrial, domestic, manufacturing, excavation, mines and many other applications. Losses estimation of the Induction Motor play a very important role in analyzing the electrical and thermal performances. Traditionally copper loss is estimated using load current and core losses is assumed constant, as it is difficult to measure core loss. An additional sensor must be place in air gap of the motor to measure core loss, increasing the complexity and uneconomical. Hence in this paper, a Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to estimate the core losses on 3ɸ - 15kW Squirrel Cage Induction Motor (SCIM) at various load conditions. A generalized mathematical model is needed to predict the core loss of the motor at various load conditions. Hence a generalized mathematical model proposed using regression technique is validated with conventional approach.

  • Effect of the Temperature Fluctuation on Torque Production by Assimilating Variable Core Loss Using Computational Approach for Electric Vehicles Motors
    S. Sachin, Krishnan Manickavasagam, A. T. Sriram
International Review of Electrical Engineering, 2022
Performance of Squirrel Cage Induction Motor (SCIM) used in Electric Vehicles (EV) is fluctuating due to temperature rise and has impact on torque production. The effect of temperature rise on torque behavior in SCIM necessitates an analysis as it finds diverse applications in EV’s. Core loss causes variation in temperature rise to torque ratio characteristics. The core loss at different loads is computed from average maximum flux density obtained from FEM analysis. The relative percentage error for change in 3/4th to full load is decreased to 2.6% when the variable core loss is used for prediction of temperature rise in SCIM. Considering variable core losses, the operating torque range of the SCIM for EV application is extended until full load condition from 3/4th load condition.

  • Influence of Rotor Design in BLDC Motor for Two-Wheeler Electric Vehicle
    Anusha Vadde, S Sachin
Icpee 2021 2021 1st International Conference on Power Electronics and Energy, 2021
A BLDC motor has good efficiency, high power density and is robust, hence predominantly used in two wheeler electric vehicle. Different designs of stator and rotor in BLDC motor are studied for their performance parameters: torque, power density, efficiency and speed. In this paper, a 10 kW BLDC motor is designed with suitable assumptions to analyze the efficiency and electromagnetic torque. A surface mounted permanent magnet rotor is chosen, embedded in stator and is analyzed using computational tool. Performance analysis is carried out for three rotor designs. It has been analyzed that a distribution of magnetic loading on the slots in stator is effected due to structural variation of rotor in BLDC motor. It turns to influence the motor parameters such as efficiency, speed and torque.
