Integration, readiness, flexibility and demand uncertainty in the post-COVID-19 period: perspectives from a Brazilian supply chain Roberto Nascimento Peixe, Rodrigo Marques de Almeida Guerra, Marcus Frantz Alberto, Ana Paula Brum Zavarise Management Research, 2026 Purpose Research on supply chains remains necessary, especially in times of uncertainty and instability. However, there is a limited number of publications conducted in emerging countries. This paper aims to investigate the moderating effect of demand uncertainty on integration, readiness and flexibility on the responsiveness of a supply chain in the manufacturing sector of machinery and equipment for transport and lifting loads. Design/methodology/approach The authors used hierarchical regression, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling to evaluate a sample of 213 supply chain managers. Findings The negative effect of demand uncertainty on all three dimensions strengthens supply chains in the postcrisis period. Demand uncertainty moderates integration, readiness and flexibility over responsiveness. Supply chains should use adaptive strategies, mitigate demand uncertainty and conduct resilient processes in postcrisis periods. Research limitations/implications The study offers insights for managers affected in postcrisis periods, such as the pandemic. This study investigates a sample of supply chain managers. Practical implications The results contribute to effective decision-making by managers, aiming at linking integration, readiness, flexibility and responsiveness in supply chains with demand uncertainty, especially in postcrisis periods. Originality/value Despite the adversities, the supply chain overcame demand uncertainty and maintained its operations through integration, readiness, flexibility and responsiveness strategies. The model is unprecedented and was applied to a supply chain undergoing consolidation.
Mediation of learning orientation on market orientation and business performance: evidence from Brazilian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Rodrigo Marques de Almeida Guerra, Maria Emilia Camargo Benchmarking, 2024 PurposeThe aim of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of learning orientation on the market orientation and business performance of industrial Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the metal-mechanic and wine sectors in southern Brazil, an emerging economy country.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data were collected from 309 Brazilian managers of SMEs in the metal-mechanic and wine sectors. The study analyzed overall model fit and causal relationships by confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling.FindingsThe survey results show that there is a positive and significant relationship between the variables market orientation, learning orientation and business performance in the investigated sectors. Learning orientation mediates the relationship between market orientation and business performance.Practical implicationsThis article provides insight to guide industrial managers of Brazilian SMEs in the metal-mechanic and wine sectors in a prosperous region with a thriving economy. The mediating effect of learning orientation can help managers in their commitment to learning, market vision and open-mindedness in teams that work with multiple orientations.Originality/valueFew studies focus on analyzing the mediating effect of learning orientation in industrial SMEs in the metal-mechanic and wine sectors. This article differs from others due to the relationships between the constructs, LO mediation over MO and BP, relevance of the investigated sectors for the region and multiple guidelines for managers of the investigated SMEs. Previous studies are scarce on the indirect effect of LO on MO and BP in developing countries.
Effect of international entrepreneurial orientation on the organisational performance of Brazilian exporting companies Rodrigo Marques de Almeida Guerra, Roberta Gizelle Macêdo Alves Farinha Contemporary Entrepreneurship Issues in International Business, 2021 Although international entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) is a topic widely discussed in national and international journals, little is known about its relationship with organisational performance (OP), particularly of exporting companies located in emerging economies. Research involving the theory of Resource-based Vision (RBV) may depend on the context in which companies operate. We measure the strength of the dimensions of innovativeness, proactivity and risk-taking in relation to the variables’ growth in sales and profitability of companies located in the states of the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, which is an emerging economy. The data were collected through a questionnaire completed by 121 companies registered in the database of the MDIC (Ministry of Economy, Development, Industry and Commerce) related to three sectors of the National Classification of Economic Activity (CNAE) The five-point Likert scale involved the dimensions of IEO and organisational performance. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation, confirmatory factor analysis and modelling of structural equations. The results of this study have generated several practical implications for managerial decision-making due to the fact that the regions covered have strategic resources, export potential and diversity of human resources. This research contributed to fill the literature gap in the relationship between the dimensions of IEO and the OP of exporting companies located in an emerging-economy country. The results revealed a positive and significant effect for seven of the nine hypotheses. Only the links between innovativeness and profitability, and risk-taking and profitability have not been confirmed. The other hypotheses about innovativeness, proactivity, sales growth, profitability and stakeholders were statistically supported. Empirical evidence of the effect of the dimensions of IEO on OP reinforces the results of previous research, in addition to expanding the scope of investigation for future research.

Identification of bottlenecks in the planning and production control: A case study Rodrigo Marques de Almeida Guerra, Maria Emilia Camargo, Marta Elisete Ventura da Motta 40th International Conference on Computers and Industrial Engineering Soft Computing Techniques for Advanced Manufacturing and Service Systems Cie40 2010, 2010 This article was developed in a small clothing company in the city of Santa Cruz do Capibaribe-PE. This report describes the stages of manufacture of products made by the company and lists the main elements of the supply chain that adversely affect the area of planning and production control and is therefore considered bottlenecks. In view of optimization and efficiency of processes developed by the company under study listed out a series of factors that minimize the losses in the process of making and achieving productivity gains of the company.
