Energy-Efficient IoT-Enabled Smart Street Lighting System with Master-Slave Node Architecture M.S. Priyadarshini, Kuruva Raju, M. Manohara, Oday I. Abdullah, Mohit Bajaj E3s Web of Conferences, 2026 Public street illumination plays a vital role in urban safety while accounting for a considerable portion of municipal energy usage and operating expenditure. To find a real-time solution for this challenge, this work presents an Internet of Things (IoT) based smart lighting framework that improves energy efficiency using a centralized and distributed node control strategy. Light intensity is adjusted in a dynamical manner using voltage regulators, relays, and transformers. This results in reducing power consumption by balancing required illumination levels. Ambient illumination levels and motion activity are identified using a combination of light-dependent resistors and passive infrared sensing units. A Raspberry Pi functions as the master node and Arduino boards act as slave nodes and communication is through HC-12 module. Current and potential transformers measure electrical parameters, with real-time data uploaded to a central server for remote monitoring and analysis. This approach offers significant advantages in terms of energy savings, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability, making it suitable for deployment in diverse locations and contributing to smart city development, sustainability, and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Power Quality Enhancement in Standalone DFIG-Based Wind Farms Using E2PLL-Controlled D-Statcom M.Manohara, Y.N. Vijaya kumar, S. Sridhar Ssrg International Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2025 Independent wind farms with Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) often experience major overvoltage, harmonic distortion, and other power quality concerns, as well as transient disturbances [1]. This study implements a D-STATCOM system combined with Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) control to address voltage stability and enhance dynamic reactive power compensation [2]. The PLL-based control locks the system voltage, enabling synchronous operation and effective harmonic filtering [2]. A phase controller is incorporated within the D-STATCOM to further improve system response to increase damping against frequency variations and slow voltage magnitude changes. The created system is modeled in the MATLAB/Simulink platform, simulated, with the capability of DFIG-based wind farms to reduce power quality issues studied. Results demonstrate significant improvements in voltage stability, a marked reduction in harmonic content, and enhanced overall power quality performance [3]. These findings reinforce the potential of advanced D-STATCOM configurations in supporting reliable, high-quality power delivery from independent renewable energy sources [4].
A Non-Invasive Ultrasound-Transmission-Based Thermometry Method for Multi-Layer Deep Tissue Monitoring Saebyeok Shin, Jaehong Jung, Mohith Manohara, Anantha P. Chandrakasan, Ahmad Bahai Proceedings 2025 21st IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems Apccas 2025, 2025 A novel ultrasound-transmission-based thermometry method is proposed for non-invasive deep tissue temperature monitoring. This approach estimates temperature by measuring variations in the time-of-flight (ToF) of received ultrasound waves, which are influenced by the temperature-dependent speed of sound in biological tissues. Although initially demonstrated in a single-layer model, the method is extendable to multi-layer tissue structures to measure the internal temperature of each layer. Compared to existing thermometry techniques, the proposed method provides direct, quantitative, and layer-specific temperature estimation. A human-mimicking tissue phantom was developed to experimentally validate the approach, achieving a mean error of 0.53°C, thereby demonstrating the feasibility and strong potential of ultrasound-transmission-based thermometry for accurate deep tissue temperature assessment.
Enhanced Mems-Driven Adaptive Braking And Speed Control System For Electric Vehicles M. Manohara, Surapureddy Naga Padmaja, K Supriya, D Himabindu, D Leela Rani, B.V. Sai Thrinath 2025 International Conference on Computing Technologies Icoct 2025, 2025 This paper presents an advanced braking and speed control system for Electric Vehicles (EVs) using a MEMS sensor in MATLAB. The system continuously monitors vehicle acceleration and detects sudden deceleration or obstacles through MEMS sensor data. Based on real-time analysis, it automatically adjusts speed or applies braking to enhance safety and stability. By leveraging precise sensor feedback, the system improves response time, reduces collision risks, and optimizes energy efficiency. This MATLAB-based implementation offers a cost-effective and efficient solution, contributing to the development of intelligent and autonomous transportation system.
Characterization Studies on a Nano-doped Organic Phase Change Material for Improving Thermal Energy Storage Malaysian Journal of Chemistry, 2025 The increasing need for effective thermal energy storage (TES) systems has prompted the investigation of phase change materials (PCMs) with improved thermal characteristics. This study examines the effect of incorporating magnesium oxide nanoparticles (nano-MgO) into paraffin wax on its thermal storage characteristics.Nano-MgO/paraffin phase change materials were synthesized with nanoparticle loadings ranging from 0 to 2.0 wt.% and characterised by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and thermal conductivity evaluation. The results indicated that nano-MgO substantially enhanced thermal conductivity, attaining a 113.89% improvement at a 2.0% loading compared to unmodified paraffin.FESEM validated the homogeneous dispersion of nanoparticles, whilst FTIR examination revealed the absence of chemical interactions, indicating physical stability.DSC measurements indicated considerable decreases in latent heat with increased concentrations of nano-MgO; nevertheless, the 1.0% composite achieved a balance between greater thermal conductivity and negligible latent heat loss.TGA exhibited enhanced thermal stability, with residual mass increasing to 0.9% at 450C for the 2.0% composite. These findings demonstrate the exciting prospects of nano-MgO/paraffin phase change materials for solar energy systems and industrial waste heat recovery, presenting a feasible approach to enhance energy storage efficiency.
