Study of Chlorophyll-a Concentration Parameters and Their Relationship to the Little Tuna (Euthynnus affinis Cantor, 1849) Catches in the Waters of Ternate Island Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, 2026
Distribution ofiChlorophyll-auConcentration in Biak Numfor WatersaandmIts Impact onnBullet TunanCatch (Auxis rochei Risso, 1810) Katiandagho et al. Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, 2024 This study was conducted with the aim of examining the distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration and its effect on the production of tuna catch to achieve optimum fish catch in the waters of Biak Numfor Regency. This study employed experimental fishing techniques from April to July 2023, collecting data on catch volumes and satellite imagery to assess the distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration based on fishing position plots. The data analysis commenced with GIS techniques to extract and map the temporal distribution of chlorophyll-a in the study area, followed by a composition analysis of the catch. Statistical analyses were then performed to explore the effects and relationships between chlorophyll-a concentration and bullet tuna catch volumes. The findings revealed significant fluctuations in chlorophyll-a concentrations in the waters of Biak Numfor from April to July 2023, with minimum and maximum values of 0.16 and 0.42mg m⁻³, respectively, and an average concentration of 0.32mg m⁻³. Regression analysis demonstrated a significant impact of chlorophyll-a concentration on bullet tuna catch, with an F-value of 82.834 and a significance level of 0.00. The coefficient of determination (R²) was calculated at 0.58, while GAM analysis confirmed a highly significant relationship between the two variables (P<0.0001). Correlation analysis further supported these findings, yielding an r-value of 0.762, indicating a strong positive correlation between chlorophyll-a concentration and bullet tuna catch. Notably, cross-correlation analysis showed that the presence and increase in bullet tuna production in the waters of Biak Numfor were particularly pronounced during the 17th fishing trip.
Dynamics of Chlorophyll-a Concentration in Ternate Island Waters and Its Effect on Yellowfin Tuna Production Umar Tangke, Syahnul Sardi Titaheluw, Ruslan Laisouw, Halfi Popa, Hamdan Bakari, Martina Suasa, Muhrim Baba, Jabaluddin Namsa, Muhammad Askar Laitupa, Luqman Ali Shah Bio Web of Conferences, 2024 This research was conducted from May to August 2023, with the aim of assessing the distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration and its effect on yellowfin tuna production in Ternate Island waters. The use of experimental fishing methods in collecting research data and data analysis in the form of abundance analysis, exponential regression, cross correlation, and General Aditive Models is expected to answer the research objectives. The results showed that the fluctuation of yellowfin tuna fish catch was similar to the abundance of fish stocks with the highest catch in June (14 229 kg) followed by July (11 142 kg), August (10 764 kg) and May (8 001 kg). The catch of yellowfin tuna fish is spread over a range of chlorophyll-a concentrations between 0.06 mg m-3 to 0.32 mg m-3, with an average monthly chlorophyll-a concentration of 0.22 mg m-3. Chlorophyll-a conditions in Ternate Island waters are quite fluctuating and significantly affect the catch of yellowfin tuna fish with a very strong correlation coefficient of 0.87. The results of General Aditive Models analysis found that the chlorophyll-a concentration value for potential yellowfin tuna fishing areas is > 0.01 mg m-3 with a correlation distance or time leg is in week 15.
Evaluation of Yellowfin Tuna Thunnus albacares (Bonnaterre 1788) Stocks in Ternate Waters, North Maluku – Indonesia, Based on Population Dynamics Studies Umar Tangke et al. Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, 2024 The tuna fishery resources, particularly yellowfin tuna (YFT), in Ternate waters, North Maluku, Indonesia (fishery management area 715), are currently classified as fully exploited at 0.97% utilization rate of the available potentials, i.e., 31.659 ton/ year. This calls for an attempt to manage the yellowfin tuna in such a way that its existence in the waters can be maintained. Studies on fish population parameters are an effort to obtain scientific information as a recommendation for sustainable fisheries management. This research used experimental fishing by measuring the fish’s length. Then, its population was estimated using FISAT II program, and its spawning potential ratio (SPR) was analyzed using length based-spawning potential ratio (LB-SPR) software. It was expected that this would be able to give the yellowfin tuna current status and condition in Ternate waters. Conducted from May through August 2023, and analyzing 4,904 fish, the research managed to determine the population parameters of yellowfin tuna in Ternate waters. Its asymptotic length (L∞), growth coefficient (K) and t0 were 117.60 cm, 1.4 per year, and 0.17 year, respectively. These were then plotted to obtain a von Bertalanffy growth curve using the formula Lt = 117,60*(1-Exp < sup>-1,4(t-0,17). From the analysis, it was found that the fish total mortality, natural mortality and captive mortality rates were 3.89, 1.55, and 2.34, respectively. Furthermore, it was found that recruitment occurred twice a year, i.e., on March and August at 6.72 and 25.18%, with the Y/R value being 0.039 and B/R value of 0.482. Meanwhile, the spawning potential ratio (SPR) value was 19%, indicating that the utilization rate had been over exploited (SPR< 20%) and it was supported by the fact that the exploitation rate value had been over 0.60 (over fishing) from the Emax value (0.421). Therefore, management is needed to ensure the sustainability of yellowfin tuna stocks.
Stock Study of the Skipjack Tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis, L., 1758) in Ternate Island, North Maluku Province, Indonesia Umar Tangke et al. Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, 2023 Due to the continuous exploitation of skipjack tuna in the waters of Ternate Island, using active pole and line fishing gears, the skipjack tuna population is suspected to experience degradation in the waters of Ternate Island. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the status of skipjack tuna populations in the waters of Ternate Island based on population dynamics studies, including parameters of growth, mortality, recruitment and exploitation rate. Experimental fishing methods were implemented to measure fish length which was then analyzed to determine the pattern of growth, mortality, exploitation rate, and yield per recruit. The results showed that the parameter of the skipjack tuna population studied had an asymptote length (L∞) of 77.7 cm, with a growth coefficient of 0.4 per year and a t0 of -0.41. Furthermore, natural mortality (M) was 1.75, while fishing mortality was determined as 1.60, and the current exploitation rate (E) showed a value of 0.48. These values indicate that the management of skipjack tuna in Ternate Island waters is close to optimum conditions (E = 0.5).
Population dynamics of eastern little tuna (Euthynnus affinis) in Ternate Waters U Tangke, R Laisouw, A Talib, Azis Husen, R Kota, W A Z Umagap Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2021 Eastern little tuna production still depends on stocks from nature, so it is feared that if production continues to increase it will threaten the sustainability of tuna resources, therefore for the sake of sustainable management information is needed on population parameters so that research is carried out from January to April 2021 with the aim of assessing the dynamics of the population of these resources. The data collection procedure was carried out by measuring the total length of the fish caught per fishing trip for 4 months using a meter with a unit (centimeter) cm and an accuracy of 1 mm. The results of the research showed that tuna in the southern waters of Ternate Island had stable growth parameters including maximum length (L∞) 68.25 cm with a growth coefficient (K) of 0.25 per month, t0 -0.20, with total mortality, natural and fishing values respectively. respectively are 0.64, 0.43, 0.21 and the level of exploitation is 0.33 where this value indicates that the rate of exploitation is smaller so it is necessary to increase fishing effort until the optimum value reaches 0.38.

Variability of chlorophyll-a concentration relation to fish catch of Indian mackerel in West Halmahera waters U Tangke, R Laisouw, W A Umagap, Darmawaty Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2021 The presence of chlorophyll-a is an indicator of water fertility, where the high chlorophyll-a content will be followed by the presence of zooplankton which will then affect other aquatic organisms that form the food chain. The interaction of chlorophyll-a concentration on the presence of mackerel in West Halmahera waters is unknown, so this study was carried out with the aim of examining the relationship between chlorophyll-a concentration in West Halmahera waters and mackerel catch. The use of experimental fishing methods from May to July 2020 and non-linear regression analysis and Generalized Additive Model (GAM) are expected to provide an overview of the relationship between the two research variables. The results showed that the distribution of Indian Mackerel was more in coastal areas with a chlorophyll-a concentration distribution of 0.18 - 0.39 mg/m3 which played a major role in determining the variability of the quantitative distribution of mackerel (α < 0.05) and positively correlated with a value of r = 0.819 and these results supported by predictions using GAM, where the potential fishing area for mackerel in West Halmahera waters is at a chlorophyll-a concentration value of aboutb 0.2 - 0.4 mg/m3.
