Laurent Long, the European expert on Chinese seals and the art of seal carving
Dr Laurent Long (born 1962) is a French Chinese scholar in the fields of seals, epigraphy, literati culture, military thought and tongzhi (LGBTQ) studies, and keenly researches topics off the beaten track. He is also a seal carver, a calligrapher, an expert in Chinese inscriptions and a literary translator.
He is a member of the best known Chinese seals carvers’ society: the Xiling Academy of seal carving Xiling yinshe in Hangzhou. A member of the Société Asiatique (Asiatic Society) in Paris, He published many articles on the history and aesthetics of seals as well as the Chinese queer past and present. He carves seals to order, appraises inscribed artwork for museums, auction houses and antique dealers.

A creator of Chinese seals and calligraphy for 37 years. Laurent Long has carved more than 2,000 seals for artists, museums and seal carvers' societies in China. He is a member of the Xiling yinshe (Xiling Academy of Seal Carving Art).
