Characterization of jute fiber-reinforced vinyl ester biocomposite strengthened with surface-modified apple pomace pectin J. Allwyn Kingsly Gladston, Krishnaveni A, R. Santhana Krishnan, S. Naveen Composite Interfaces, 2026 This study explores the development and performance of silane-treated jute fiber reinforced vinyl ester biocomposites, enhanced with silane-treated pectin derived from apple pomace, an industrial fruit waste. By combining surface-modified natural fiber and biopolymer filler, the work promotes sustainable material development through biomass reuse. Pectin was extracted via acid-assisted hydrolysis followed by ethanol and acetone precipitation, and 3-APTES silane treatment was applied to improve interfacial bonding. Composites were fabricated using the hand lay-up method. Among the specimens, VJP2 exhibited the best mechanical performance, with tensile strength of 146 MPa, flexural strength of 159 MPa, impact resistance of 4.41 J, and hardness of 81 Shore-D, due to optimal interaction between silane-treated fiber and 3 vol.% pectin, enabling efficient stress transfer and reduced voids. In contrast, VJP3 achieved superior wear, water absorption, and flammability performance, with a specific wear rate of 0.019 mm3/Nm, water absorption of 0.008%, and flame propagation speed of 5.63 mm/min (UL-94 V0), attributed to dense reinforcement and enhanced char formation at 5 vol.% pectin. SEM analysis confirmed uniform filler-matrix adhesion in VJP2 and minor agglomeration in VJP3 without compromising structural integrity. These results demonstrate that integrating surface-modified waste-derived pectin with jute fiber produces high-performance, sustainable biocomposites suitable for automotive, packaging, and domestic applications.

Umesh Proceedings of the 2026 International Conference on AI Driven Smart Systems and Ubiquitous Computing Icauc 2026, 2026 Crowd stampedes in densely populated public spaces pose critical safety risks, requiring accurate and real-time monitoring systems. This research presents AURORA (Advanced Unified Risk Observation & Real-time Alert), a hybrid deep learning framework designed for early crowd stampede risk prediction. AURORA integrates CSRNet-based crowd density estimation, RAFT-lite optical flow motion analysis, Transformer-based spatio-temporal risk modeling, and a rule-based safety layer to ensure explainable and reliable predictions. A custom dataset, AURORA-CROWDX, consisting of annotated video sequences captured at 15 FPS from diverse public environments, supports training, evaluation, and validation. Performance evaluation demonstrates that AURORA outperforms existing methods (CNN-Density and MCNN) across all metrics. For crowd density estimation, it achieves a crowd count accuracy of 0.953, MAE of 0.426, MSE of 0.762, and zone-wise density accuracy of 0.941. Motion analysis results include average crowd speed of 0.812 m/s, speed variance 0.096, direction entropy 0.274, flow consistency 0.941, and panic motion score 0.872. Spatio-temporal risk prediction yields a Transformer risk probability of 0.891, risk prediction accuracy 0.943, and early warning lead time of 13.875 seconds. Hybrid risk assessment reduces false alarms to 0.041 while maintaining classification accuracy of 0.943. System throughput reaches 14.875 FPS with low latency (74.562 ms/frame) and robust performance under occlusion (0.912) and illumination variations (0.931). The proposed framework provides several advantages: high prediction accuracy, early warning capability, explainable decisions, and robust real-time operation. By enhancing crowd safety in public spaces, this research demonstrates a practical and scalable solution for real-time risk management in densely populated urban environments.
Self-Supervised and Diffusion-based Architectures for Document Image Restoration and Recognition K. Muthulakshmi, U.V. Anbazhagu, R. Venkatalakshmi, R. Santhana Krishnan, J. Relin Francis Raj, S. Kavitha Proceedings of the 2026 International Conference on AI Driven Smart Systems and Ubiquitous Computing Icauc 2026, 2026 The automated analysis of historical documents represents a significant engineering challenge due to severe degradation, complex layouts, and handwritten content variability. These documents form a critical component of Cultural heritage preservation and large-scale Infrastructure for digital information systems. Conventional image processing and recognition pipelines lack robustness, scalability, and reliability when applied to degraded archival data. This paper presents an integrated deep learning framework that combines self-supervised representation learning, diffusion-based image restoration, transformer-driven document understanding, and uncertainty modeling for historical document analysis. A Vision Transformer pretrained using a Masked Autoencoder enables robust feature extraction from unlabeled document images, reducing dependency on annotated datasets. Latent diffusion models with a Swin Transformer U-Net backbone perform high-fidelity document restoration, improving visual quality while maintaining structural consistency. Layout analysis is conducted using the DETR architecture, enabling accurate detection of document regions such as text blocks and paragraphs. Handwritten text recognition is achieved through a CNN–Transformer–CTC architecture, facilitating reliable sequence transcription. Explainability is incorporated using attention rollout and Grad-CAM, while diffusion-based uncertainty estimation provides confidence measures essential for trustworthy deployment. Experimental evaluation demonstrates significant performance improvements, achieving high restoration, recognition, and layout accuracy.
Digital Transformation and Technology in Higher Education K. Ramalakshmi, Vinod Kumar Shukla, T. Anjani Devi, N. Shanmugapriya, A. Mohamed Anwar, R. Santhana Krishnan, R. Ranjani Driving Institutional Excellence Through Accreditation Standards in Higher Education, 2026 Digital transformation in higher education is the process of using modern digital technologies to improve how universities and colleges teach, manage, research, and connect with the wider community. This transformation goes beyond simply using computers or online tools. It involves a complete change in how institutions work, how students learn, and how teachers teach. Technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, learning management systems, virtual and augmented reality, and data analytics are becoming central to educational practices and decision-making. The COVID-19 pandemic pushed many institutions to quickly adopt digital solutions, leading to widespread use of online and hybrid learning. As a result, universities have started to build long-term strategies to include digital tools in classrooms, student services, and administration. This chapter discusses the major technologies involved, new teaching methods supported by digital tools, and the effects on students, faculty, and institutions. At the same time, digital transformation brings several challenges.
Enhancing acute leukemia classification through hybrid fuzzy C means and random forest methods K. Lakshmi Narayanan, R. Santhana Krishnan, Y. Harold Robinson, S. Vimal, Tarik A. Rashid, Chetna Kaushal, Md. Mehedi Hassan Measurement Sensors, 2025 Leukemia is a category of cancer that is normally found in blood and bone marrow, and which causes rapid abnormal development in the making of white blood cells than the required amount. The produced white blood cells could be ineffective to fight against harmful infections and can even prejudice or restrict the capability of the bone marrow to generate red blood cells and blood platelets. If this is not diagnosed in the earlier stage, it may start to affect the function of the internal organs and cause death. Normally, entire blood counts image analysis and diagnosis are done manually which is an inaccurate and time-intensive process. In this proposed method the classification is tested with two Machine Learning algorithms which are Hybrid Fuzzy C Means (FCM) and Random Forest algorithm (RF) and Support Vector Machine for the detection and classification of Acute Leukemia disease and their performance was evaluated. The dataset comprised of 8637 images which included infected images, normal images and augmented images from different dataset providers and RGB to CMYK conversion with histogram equalization is applied for pre-processing, K means for Image Segmentation. Experimental results convey that Hybrid FCM and RF Algorithm attained an accuracy of 99.06 %, a sensitivity of 99.4 %, and a specificity of 97.8 % respectively, and the ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve shows that the result produced by the Hybrid FCM & RF based Classifier is best suitable in diagnosing the classification of the Acute Leukemia disease. The tool used for developing the proposed method was Matlab R2018 software.
Enhancing Human Activity Recognition using PSOOptimized 1D CNN-GRU Model on Wearable Sensor Data K.Ramalakshmi, Vinod Kumar Shukla, J Relin Francis Raj, R Santhana Krishnan Proceedings of 5th International Conference on Soft Computing for Security Applications Icscsa 2025, 2025 Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is important in areas such as smart environments, health monitoring, behavior tracking, and Human–Computer Interaction (HCI). Although deep learning (DL) models have shown great results in recognizing human activities, handling time-series data from wearable sensors is still challenging. In this work, we introduce a new model that combines a 1D Convolutional Neural Network (1D CNN) with Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), and uses Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to fine-tune the model’s hyperparameters. The 1D CNN extracts useful patterns from the sensor data, while the GRU learns the sequence and time-based relationships between the activities. PSO helps improve the model’s performance and training speed by finding the best parameter settings. Batch normalization is used to make training more stable, and max pooling is added to reduce the number of parameters. A Softmax layer at the end is used to classify different types of activities. The model was tested on two widely used datasets, MHEALTH and WISDM, and achieved high classification accuracies of 99.17% and 98.55%, respectively. The results show that the proposed method performs better than many existing techniques. This work uniquely integrates PSO for automated hyperparameter optimization within a CNN-GRU framework, demonstrating a clear advancement over existing HAR models in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency.
A Unified Deep Learning Model for Fake Account Identification using Transformer-based NLP and Graph Neural Networks L. Selvam, E.S. Vinothkumar, R. Santhana Krishnan, G. Vinoth Rajkumar, J. Relin Francis Raj, P. Stella Rose Malar Proceedings of 8th International Conference on Inventive Computation Technologies Icict 2025, 2025 Fake accounts and bots on social media platforms pose significant threats, including misinformation dissemination, fraud, and manipulation of public opinion. To address these challenges, a hybrid deep learning model integrating Transformers and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) is proposed. The model leverages BERT for textual analysis of user-generated content, including posts, comments, and profile descriptions, while GNNs analyze network-based features such as follower relationships, engagement behaviors, and interaction patterns. This combination ensures an enhanced understanding of both linguistic and structural characteristics, leading to improved detection accuracy. The dataset is curated from publicly available labeled social media account data, supplemented with API-based extractions to ensure diversity. Features include user metadata, textual content, and network structures. In the preprocessing phase, text is tokenized using a BERT tokenizer and converted into high-dimensional embeddings using BERT-based encoders. Simultaneously, a social graph is constructed, where users and interactions are represented as nodes and edges. These representations serve as input for the GNN model, learning patterns indicative of fraudulent activities. A dual-module architecture is implemented, comprising a BERT-based text classification model and a GNN-based network classification model. Outputs from both modules are fused in a shared feature space before classification. Model performance is evaluated using accuracy, F1-score, and AUC-ROC metrics. Experimental results demonstrate superior detection capabilities compared to singlemodality models. Applications include social media security, fraud prevention, misinformation control, and e-commerce integrity. Future enhancements focus on real-time scalability and robustness against adversarial attacks.
