Influence of Al₂O₃ and B₄C Hybrid Reinforcements on the Mechanical Properties and WEDM Machinability of Aluminum Matrix Composites Ashwin G. Ghaysundar, Mahendra J. Sable, Dilip M. Patel, SantoshLaxman Pachpute, Shyamsing Thakur, et al. Ssrg International Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2026 The Mechanical Properties and WEDM performance of AMCs containing Al₂O₃ and B₄C are investigated in this study. A total of nine composite specimens were prepared by the stir-casting method with different weight percentages of Al₂O₃ and B₄C reinforcements. The Microstructural, Tensile Strength, Hardness, Wear Behavior, and WEDM responses, such as MRR, Surface Roughness (SR), and kerf width of the prepared composites, were investigated. Of all combinations investigated, the hybrid composition with 5% Al₂O₃ and 3% B₄C displayed indeed maximum mechanical properties along with better machinability (higher MRR as well as lower Ra). Microstructural studies through X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) indicated a homogeneous distribution of reinforcing particles with few pores, resulting in better performance. The synergistic effect of the reinforcement exhibited a synergetic interaction -that is, Al₂O₃ provided improved hardness and heat stability, whereas B₄C enhanced the lubrication property and wear resistance. The optimization process using Taguchi’s L27 orthogonal array and ANOVA analysis also indicates the important parameters and potential influence of reinforcement composition and WEDM on the response. The results in general suggest that Al– Al₂O₃/B₄C hybrid composites have a good potential for the aerospace and automotive industry, requiring high strength along with efficient EDM machinability.
Modeling the mechanical behavior of Al 7010/SiC nanocomposites using artificial neural networks Nilesh H. Khandare, Ganesh Devidas Shrigandhi, Deepak Madhukar Deshmukh, S. Vishwanatha, Santosh R. Shekokar, et al. Journal of Materials Science Materials in Engineering, 2025 In this study, the wear properties of three different composite formulations (T1, T2, and T3), which are highly important for aeronautical applications, are examined. The structural approach from Taguchi (L27 experimental design) is employed. To analyze the critical performance parameters, cf, such as specific wear rate (SWR) and frictional force (Ff), the Taguchi Signal-to-noise ratio approach is used. The input variables compound, applied load, rotating Speed, and sliding distance reveal significant correlations between the observed results. The optimal parameter combination of 5% composition, 15 N applied force, 160 rpm rotating Speed, and 41 M Sliding distance Showed subtle interactions that enhanced the wear resistance of the composite materials. The application of ANN-based predictions in this Study achieved an impressive accuracy of 99.72% in correlating predicted results with actual testing outcomes. This achievement facilitates the swift refinement of composite materials to meet the demanding standards of aerospace applications. This research plays a significant role in improving wear analysis and prediction methods while also fostering the development of specialized composites that offer enhanced reliability, performance, and durability for aeronautical purposes.
Development of a Compact and Slim Piezo-Inertia Actuator With Monolithic Elastomers by Flexural Hinge Mechanism S. Vishwanatha, Shrishail B. Sollapur, P. C. Sharath, K. Hemanth, Abhijit Bhowmik, et al. Journal of Engineering United Kingdom, 2025 Several previous studies have addressed the issues raised by the large bulk and slow speed of inertial actuators. The current study used the stick–slip drive theory to construct a compacted piezo‐inertia actuator to overcome these limitations. A cantilever beam integrated into a monolithic elastomer pushes itself with a high‐velocity lateral motion. This research thoroughly examines the design of the actuator and its underlying operating principles. The monolithic elastomer was analyzed using finite element analysis software to determine the appropriate geometry. The mechanical properties of the actuator were obtained by building a prototype and subjecting it to a variety of experimental tests. According to the test data, the actuator had a maximum speed of approximately 26.07 mm/s, a maximum load force of approximately 1.89 N, and a minimum step size of approximately 0.51 μ m. The constructed monolithic elastomer and a cantilever beam actuator were sleek and small, with excellent output characteristics.
