Integration of urban planning policies with coastal protection works: a case study on the coast of Itapema-SC Leonardo Afonso Brusamolin Júnior, Maryane Gislayne Cordeiro de Queiroz, Natália Salamoni, Gilberto Friedenreich dos Santos, Cristiane Mansur de Moraes Souza, Juarês José Aumond Revista Brasileira De Geografia Fisica, 2025 O objetivo deste estudo de caso é examinar a produção do espaço urbano, examinando um projeto de intervenção na orla litorânea do município de Itapema, localizado no litoral de Santa Catarina. A questão que surge é se a proposta de reurbanização da orla litorânea do município respeita o processo democrático de pensar a cidade e os impactos relacionados à questão urbana de competitividade e produtividade. O estudo foi realizado a partir de pesquisa documental realizada em sítios na web, livros, artigos científicos nacionais e internacionais. A metodologia adotada é descritiva e exploratória. Após descrição do projeto de intervenção foram avaliados referenciais teóricos para a discussão dos aspectos da dimensão política e do desenvolvimento sustentável proposto no projeto. No número reduzido de documentos publicados sobre o projeto das obras na orla de Itapema foi identificado ausência de soluções sob uma perspectiva sistêmica, à medida que a solução apresentada para controlar a erosão costeira ocasionada pelas mudanças climáticas foram obras civis, tais como construção de molhes e alargamento artificial da faixa de areia. A conclusão de que se obtém do estudo é que a predominância de aspectos econômicos nas decisões para a intervenção urbana, associadas à ausência do controle social e a desatualização dos instrumentos locais para o planejamento urbano e ambiental, comprometem a sustentabilidade e resiliência do município de Itapema- SC, principalmente frente aos desafios oriundos das alterações ambientais resultantes das obras de intervenção costeira e a ausência de medidas capazes de sanar as demandas geradas pelos movimentos turísticos.
Influence of recycled fines on strength and alkali-silica reactivity in cement composites Natália Salamoni, Gustavo Toigo, Joana Sousa-Coutinho Proceedings of Institution of Civil Engineers Waste and Resource Management, 2022 This study evaluated characteristics of mortars using recycled construction and demolition waste (CDW) from the industry as fine recycled aggregate in replacement of natural sand (NS). Mixes with replacements in volume of 20 and 100% CDW and a control mix with just NS were tested for their compressive and flexural strength and alkali–silica reactivity (ASR). For mechanical strength, experimental results showed satisfactory performance for 20% CDW content. Concerning the ASR test, mortars with CDW performed better than the control, demonstrating a general innocuous behaviour for ASR. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis were performed on aggregate and mortar samples before and after the ASR test and confirmed the results, demonstrating that the attack was more severe in the samples with the greatest amount of siliceous material in the aggregate. The results demonstrate the viability of the use of CDW fine aggregate replacement in mortars, envisaging the possibility of its incorporation in concrete.
