  • Optimized parameter estimation of solar PV models using an improved red-tailed hawk algorithm

    Scientific Reports, 2026
This work introduces a metaheuristic (MH) optimization method, which is inspired by the red-tailed hawks' predatory behavior is Improved Red-tailed Hawk (IRTHA) Algorithm. The algorithm uses a dynamic adjustment method which uses the combined effect of nonlinear decay and chaotic mapping to enhance the convergence efficacy and accuracy of outcomes. This enhancement affects the search radius of the algorithm and creates diversity in the dive speed of hawks, hence adaptively balancing exploration and exploitation, enhancing diversity and convergence. IRTHA's efficacy is examined for single, double, and triple diode models of various photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules, such as RTC France, PVM 752, STP 120/36, STM 40/36, and Photowatt-PWP201. A comparative analysis of IRTHA with other advanced MH optimization techniques indicates that IRTHA exhibits considerably lower RMSE values: 7.72986E-04 for SDM-RTC France, 7.41918E-04 for DDM-RTC France, 7.34782E-04 for TDM-RTC France, 1.59243E-04 for PVM 752, 1.44508E-02 for STP 120/36, 1.72192E-03 for STM 40/36, and 2.05285E-03 for the Photowatt-PWP201 module, respectively. The reliability of IRTHA is futher validated by statistical analyses, including non-parametric tests (Friedman and Wilcoxon rank-sum tests), convergence curve assessments, and graphical representations with boxplots, which collectively confirm its potential to deliver robust and computationally efficient optimization. From the outcomes, it is observed that the IRTHA demonstrates superior performance compared to other existing MH algorithms. The results obtained by IRTHA show exceptional performance in PV system modeling and parameter estimation in solar PV applications.

    Liquid Crystals, 2023
We are reporting the effect of polymer dispersion on liquid crystals (LCs) by examining their structural, morphological and electro-optic properties. Ultraviolet irradiation effect has been investigated through morphological and electro-optic characteristics and perceived structural behaviour transformation in the respective devices, which persuade topological restraints in the form of defects (photopolymerisation and chemical interaction provoke the development of frozen network which leads to packing of LC molecules in different orientations and defect geometries). We have observed the effect of temperature and voltage on morphological studies via optical micrographs under polarising optical microscopy. A significant effect of polymer concentrations and temperature has been observed on the physicochemical properties of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) systems. The development of defects can be understood via possible theoretical chemical interactions, polymerisation and anchoring energy. A relative optical transmittance and lower threshold voltage has been presented for all the respective PDLC devices in comparison to the pure LC. A higher anchoring (10−5 J/m2) and contrast (18.34 dB) have been noticed in the PDLC devices. Refractive indices and corresponding birefringence have also been measured and compared for pure and doped LC systems. Furthermore, these investigations offer an understanding of essential mechanisms to develop potential electronic materials and optical device applications. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

Geophysical and Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, 2021
Wave structure interaction problem having thick vertical barrier over an arbitrary seabed is analysed for its solution. The associated boundary value problem is handled using a coupled eigenfunction expansion–boundary element method. This method converts the boundary value problem into integral equation over the physical boundaries. The physical boundaries are discretised into a finite number of elements and hence the integral equation give rise to a system of linear algebraic equations. Finally, the system of equations is solved to obtain the physical quantities, namely, the reflection and transmission coefficients. For ensuring the correctness of these physical quantities, the energy balance relation is derived and verified. The present results are also verified by comparing the results available in the literature. The present study reveals that the width and height of the structure along with the undulated seabed play an important role to construct an effective wave barrier to protect various marine facilities from wave attack and also helpful to create the tranquility zone on the lee side of the structure.
