    The spiritual leadership competency discourse has emphasized elements of skills, traits, and behavior that can influence leadership performance and organizational outcomes. This study aims to enrich cross-cultural management literature by exploring leadership competencies based on spiritual leadership practices in Indonesia. Therefore, this paper seeks to uncover the origins of spiritual leadership and appropriate competencies using empirical facts and Islamic cultural practices in Indonesia. The competencies analyzed in this study are based on Al-Ghazali’s cardinal virtues. Through a systematic literature review approach, this paper examines the Islamic Spiritual Leadership Model (SLM) and the concept of Qalb in the four cardinal virtues and their role in spiritual leadership practices in Indonesia. The findings are clarified through focus group discussions with top managers and staff from the Islamic banking sector. In addition, a principal component analysis was performed on 281 employees in Java, Indonesia, to determine the accuracy of the four Qalb competencies. This study discovered a new dimension in SLM based on the Islamic cultural context in Indonesia and considered a novel design. Thus, it addresses a gap in conventional SLM that has existed for about two decades, specifically when applied in countries where religion-based spirituality is practiced.

  • Techno-structural intervention and its effect on readiness for change in the Indonesian government-owned corporation

    Techno-structural interventions emphasising on improving the organisational effectiveness and human performance, which is focused on technology and structure. For a government-owned corporation to assist employees in being motivated and prepared for change, it is essential that managers, employees, and all stakeholders understand factors may influence readiness for change. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the techno-structural intervention consisting of restructuring organisation, employee involvement, and work design toward readiness for change. The data were collected through a survey using self-reported questionnaire and purposive sampling. The entire population of 73 employees was sampled in this study including permanent employees. The findings indicate that readiness for change was affected by employee involvement. This study was also found a significant effect of work design on readiness for change. However, the results revealed that restructuring organisation has no effect on readiness for change. Additionally, the implications and limitations were discussed.
  • Analysis of transformational leadership effect towards organisational citizenship behaviour mediated by organisational commitment in the heritage hotel

    Many organisations are shifting the pattern of their leadership style from transactional into transformational leadership as a way of achieving the strategy and goals. This study aimed to analyse transformational leadership influence on organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) and organisational commitment role in mediating its effects. The type of research is explanatory research with a quantitative approach. The populations in this study are 82 employees from the heritage hotel in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Census method is used and involves the entire population as respondents. Data are processed by structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis that conducted by the partial least square (PLS) method. The results indicated that transformational leadership has a significant positive effect on OCB and against organisational commitment, where organisational commitment does not much affect OCB. Evidently, organisational commitment does not mediate the effect of transformational leadership on OCB.
