  • STUDY OF EFFECTIVE LOCATION OF SHEAR WALL IN MULTI-STOREYED BUILDINGS FOR OPTIMUM SEISMIC RESPONSE
Arpn Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, 2024
In the seismic resistant design of high-rise structures, shear walls which are constructed along the height of the building are capable of transferring lateral forces from peripheral walls, floors, and roofs to the ground foundation. The main objective of the present study is to determine the effective location for shear walls in a multi-storey building for an optimum seismic response. The “Dynamic Response Spectrum method” of analysis of the building is done using ETABS. The effectiveness of shear walls has been studied by considering four different models. Model-I is a bare frame structural system without a shear wall and the other three models are dual-type structural systems with shear walls at different locations. In this study, a 16x16m plan with G+15 stories RC building with a total height of about 48m is analysed in zone V by providing shear walls of 250mm thick at different locations in the building. From the analysis results it is observed that the model with a shear wall placed at the centre of the building is more effective in resisting seismic forces when compared to other models.
  • Corrosion characteristics of rebar in Fly Ash-GGBFS synthesised alkali activated concrete
T Muralidhara Rao, Chava Venkatesh, Chereddy Sonali Sri Durga, Jagadeesh Bommisetty, C Ravi Kumar Reddy
Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2024
Using accelerated corrosion technique, it is proposed to study the influence of anodic corrosion inhibitors like calcium nitrites (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%) and sodium nitrites (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%) on the Fe550 grade steel reinforcement corrosion of M20 grade Geopolymer concrete (70%FA+30%GGBFS) cylindrical specimens prepared using 3M and 5M alkali activators. Geopolymer concrete cylinders with rebar inserted are placed in the 5% NaCl solution and the corrosion time and corrosion current required for the corrosion of steel reinforcement bars was calculated by supplying a constant voltage of 12volts. Three cylindrical specimens of 200mm diameter and 100mm height are cast in each percentage of corrosion inhibitors and the corrosion characteristics like Corrosion rate, mass loss, Corrosion density, Corrosion current, Corrosion time of steel reinforcement were calculated. 200mm length and 10mm diameter steel reinforcement bar was used in the Geopolymer concrete cylindrical specimens. 4% of Calcium nitrite (Ca(No2)2) and 4% of Sodium nitrite (NaNo2) with 3M and 5M alkali activators were found to be optimum with less mass loss and rate of corrosion. The mass loss and rate of corrosion of 3M alkali activator Geopolymer concrete mix were less compared to that of 5M alkali activator geopolymer concrete.
  • Electrochemical study on the effect of high volume fly ash on the corrosion of reinforcement in self compacting concrete slab panels
T Muralidhara Rao, Chava Venkatesh, Chereddy Sonali Sri Durga, Jagadeesh Bommisetty, C Ravi Kumar Reddy
Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2024
In aggressive environmental conditions, corrosion of rebars affects the life of RC structures. Pathways for quick ingress of chloride and water are the pores, voids and cracks in concrete which affect the load bearing capacity and life of structures. Use of pozzolanic materials in concrete provide good protection to the reinforcement from chloride attack due to the pores filling and microstructural refinement internally. The present work investigates the maximum load carrying capacity, peak deflection, residual flexural strength, energy absorption capacity, mass loss and compressive strength of M20 grade High volume fly ash SCC slab panels when exposed to saline environment by partial replacement of cement (0%, 25%, 35%, 45%) at 0%, 5% degree of corrosion using accelerating corrosion technique justifying the suitability of HVFA SCC for structural concrete applications. HVFA SCC one-way slab panels of 700mmx300mmx60mm are cast with steel reinforcement having yield strength of 500 MPa. In a particular fly ash percentage and corrosion percentage level, one slab panel was tested. Experimental results show that the maximum load carrying capacity, peak deflection, energy absorption capacity, mass loss, residual flexural strength, compressive strength of HVFA SCC is less than 20% compared to 0% fly ash SCC specimens.

  • Soil interaction of building frame resting on clayey soil: Effect of change of footing size

International Journal of Recent Technology and Engineering, 2019
In every structure, the super structure and the foundation executed on soil, represent an entire structural system. The analysis of a framed structure while not modeling its foundation system and its rigidity could mislead the axial forces, moments due to bending and due to settlement. It is, thus necessary to hold out the analysis considering the type of soil, foundation and above the sub structure i.e. (super structure). Hence the analysis of the single bay single storied building frame resting on soil (Clayey Soil) is taken for present study. The analysis is carried out using “ANSYS 16.0”. In this paper the effect of soil interaction on building frame design parameters as change of modulus of sub-grade reaction from 0.010 to 0.050 N/mm3.Shear force, Bending moment and settlements have been studied for different footing sizes of 1mx1m to 4.5mx4.5m the effect of SSI is quantified using finite element analysis. The following conclusions have been drawn from the study, the shear force and axial force value in the beam and column is constant from finite element analysis are not having considerable difference. The analysis is predicting that percentage difference in bending moment in beam, column and footings are at lower EFS value i.e 0.010N/mm3 at lower footing size 1mX1m is greater than when compared to higher EFS value i.e 0.050N/mm3 at higher footing size 4.5mX4.5m which considers soil interaction. But in case of the footings they undergo some settlement the percentage difference of settlement is 14.41% and 6.72% at lower EFS value i.e 0.010N/mm3 at lower footing size 1mx1m when compared to higher EFS value i.e 0.050N/mm3 at higher footing size 4.5mx4.5m respectively, which considers soil interaction.
