Llt Journal Journal on Language and Language Teaching, 2025
While literacy serves as the foundation of language proficiency and a key predictor of academic success, its development depends on teacher and student readiness, parent involvement, and effective use of media such as stories. Previous studies show that story-based learning enhances comprehension and supports early reading, especially when sustained collaboration between teachers and parents is present. Due to the growing emphasis on early literacy and the integration of stories in language education, this study investigates the underexplored factors of teacher readiness, student readiness, and parent involvement in ensuring effective literacy development for young learners. The researchers employed a descriptive-quantitative research design using a survey. This study involved seven teachers, 202 students, and 124 parents as participants. Three questionnaires were used as the primary instruments to collect data. The data were analyzed descriptively using statistical descriptive analysis. The findings revealed that teacher readiness was very high, whereas students’ readiness and parents’ involvement were high for enhancing learner’s literacy development through story-based learning. Thus, it is concluded that the teachers have satisfying readiness, while the learners and parents hold high readiness and involvement that support literacy success. These results imply that all parties should work collaboratively to build young learners’ literacy skills, which are vital for academic accomplishment.

Journal of Language Teaching and Research, 2025
This research aimed at identifying the lexicon of traditional Balinese games and the understanding of the Balinese alpha generation regarding this lexicon. This research used a mixed-method model with a sequential exploratory design. The researchers collected qualitative data using interview techniques with three informants, who were selected using a purposive sampling technique to identify the lexicon of traditional Balinese games. The qualitative data were analyzed using an interactive data analysis model. After the lexicon of traditional Balinese games had been identified, the researchers used these findings to create an objective test. That test was used to measure the understanding of the Balinese alpha generation living in rural and urban areas regarding this lexicon. The samples in this study were selected using a quota sampling technique. One hundred children were selected from rural area, and another one hundred were selected from urban area. The test results from the two groups were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test. This research found 86 lexicons in traditional Balinese games, which can be classified into lexicons of game names, tools, and rules. Regarding word class, these lexicons can be categorized into nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Furthermore, the students in rural area had a better understanding on the lexicons in traditional Balinese game than students in urban area. However, in general, students' understanding of both in rural and urban areas is still low because they only understand a small part of the existing lexicons.

Ni Nyoman Padmadewi, I Made Sukma Adisetiawan Sukadana, Luh Putu Artini, Ketut Trika Adi Ana
    Jurnal Kajian Bali, 2025
This research explores the application of the Balinese philosophy of Menyama Braya or brotherhood in promoting inclusive education in a primary bilingual school in North Bali. Grounded in theories of multiculturalism and inclusivity, the study emphasizes the importance of acceptance, empathy, and cooperation among students from diverse backgrounds. Employing a phenomenological approach, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, discussions, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the integration of Menyama Braya principles fosters a cooperative learning environment where students, including those with special needs, engage meaningfully with their peers. This practice not only enhances tolerance and empathy but also supports the creation of culturally responsive educational spaces. Recommendations include incorporating Menyama Braya values into teacher education curricula to cultivate inclusive practices that celebrate diversity and ensure equitable access to quality education for all students. By embedding these local values into modern educational methodologies, schools can develop compassionate learning environments that embrace differences while promoting social harmony.

Made Sri Satyawati, I Nyoman Kardana, Ketut Widya Purnawati, I Ketut Trika Adi Ana
Journal of Language Teaching and Research, 2023
This study describes the morphosyntax of imperative sentences in the Balinese language. From the morphological approach, the uniqueness of the imperative in Balinese can be seen when compared to some other languages. This study aims to clarify the typology of this matter. Imperative sentences show similarities and distinctions between certain languages. In many languages, imperative sentences commonly use base verbs or bare verbs with or without a second-person subject. However, imperative sentences in Balinese use verbs with different affixes depending on the category. This study discusses the morphological form of the imperative verb, the structure of the imperative, and examples of sentences that can be used in the imperative. We believe that this morphosyntax approach can best explain the uniqueness of the imperative found in Balinese. This study is unlike any previous studies done on the same topic, and it aims to give a comprehensive and conclusive view of the imperative construction in Balinese.

Kasetsart Journal of Social Sciences, 2022
This study attempted: (1) to describe the teaching and learning activities using WhatsApp;and (2) to determine the students’ perception of the implementation as a platform of online learning. This research was descriptive qualitative research utilizing observation of one lecturer and survey delivered to 117 students who took pedagogical content courses. The observation was conducted during one academic semester teaching in 2020 by using a journal note and a survey using a questionnaire that contained 20 items. There were four dimensions determined in the questionnaire: ease/relevance, before learning, during learning, and benefits of WhatsApp. Among 117 respondents involved in this study, there were 83 undergraduate students and 34 postgraduate students. The study proved there were nine learning activities done by the students in the main and post-activity phases. Such activities included sending the written summary on the pedagogical content knowledge and link of the video of oral presentation and simulation, discussion through questions and answers, giving additional comments, giving conclusions, and giving feedback. The study also revealed that the perception of the students on WhatsApp utilization was very positive. They strongly agreed that it was comfortable and relevant to use during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped them improve oral and written communication skills. Moreover, they confirmed it increased their critical thinking through discussion activity conducted before and during learning. Thus, it enhanced their understanding of the pedagogical content knowledge materials. © 2022 Kasetsart University.

Theory and Practice in Language Studies, 2022
This study aimed to compare the effect of digital and printed multilingual dictionaries on young learners' literacy. Besides, it also explored the students’ responses on the implementation of those dictionaries. To achieve the study's objectives, the researchers followed a sequential mixed method that started with the quantitative method and followed with the qualitative method. There were two classes involved in this study. Those two classes were selected using the matching technique. One class was treated as an experimental class, while the other was the control class. To collect the study's data, the researchers used a literacy test for the quantitative method and a questionnaire, and an interview guide for the qualitative method. The quantitative data were analyzed statistically using an independent t-test, while the qualitative data were analyzed using an interactive data analysis model. This study statistically confirmed that the digital multilingual dictionary was better than the printed dictionary. The results of the questionnaire and interview supported the finding that young learners had positive responses toward the use of both dictionary, however they also affirmed that the digital dictionary was more interesting and could help them more to study English vocabulary with the pronunciations.
