Akash Kumar Srivastava, Hari Prapan Sharma
International Journal of Process Management and Benchmarking, 2025
The study aims to investigate the role of self-help groups (SHGs) and various government initiatives for empowering women in India through bank linkage programs. In recent years, the government of India has been working harder to empower women in India. It has introduced several schemes and promoted SHGs for women's empowerment. The study has collected empirical data from 487 women who benefited from this program or are part of the SHGs to assess the critical factors for empowering women in India using purposive sampling techniques. The findings suggest that social empowerment and poverty reductions are crucial elements of women's empowerment in India. Further, women can be empowered through skilling, education, and equality in India. Providing financial support and empowering them with monetary have less role in women's empowerment in India. Bank linkage programs have contributed a lot in empowering women financially and socially and in poverty reduction.
  • The uncharted nexus: exploring the mediating role of green attitude in the influence of financial knowledge and personality traits on green investment decisions
Hari Prapan Sharma, Tanushree Gupta, Akash Kumar Srivastava, Nitin Sharma
International Journal of Business Process Integration and Management, 2025
This study addresses a key research gap: the combined influence of financial knowledge and personality traits on green investment behaviour, particularly within the Indian context. We investigate the mediating role of green attitude in this relationship, using a cross-sectional survey of 422 Indian respondents. Results show that financial literacy and green subjective norms significantly and positively predict green attitudes, a novel finding. However, personality characteristics showed an unexpected, insignificant negative effect. We also found that financial literacy and green subjective norms influence financial self-efficacy, which in turn positively shapes green investment attitudes. These findings extend the theory of planned behaviour to green finance, underscoring the pivotal role of attitude as a psychological mediator. From a practical perspective, our research offers policymakers and financial advisors valuable insights into cultivating positive green attitudes and encouraging sustainable investment behaviours through enhanced financial literacy and the leverage of social norms.

Sanjeet Singh, Mitra Amini, Mohammed Jamshed, Hari Prapan Sharma, Waseem Khan
Research Journal of Textile and Apparel, 2024
Purpose The purpose of the study is to examine the obstacle in doing business and determinants of credit adoption by the textile enterprises in India. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on World Bank’s Enterprises Survey, there are 571 enterprises involved in textile business. The enterprises survey has response on wide range of business obstacles which are categorized under three broad categories, namely, access to resource, business regulations and market externalities. Chi-square test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) have been used to examine the significant difference among firm’s profile and perceived business obstacles across the firm size. Furthermore, binary logistic regression model has been applied to explore the determinants of credit adoption by textile enterprises. Findings A statistically significant difference has been found in size of firms and legal status nature of establishment, gender of top manager, main product market and credit adoption from financial institutions. Majority of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are sole proprietorship firm while large enterprises are limited partnership firms. Similarly, large enterprises have relatively more female as a top manager and international market for their product. ANOVA reveals equal degree of obstacles in doing textile business across the firm size. The logistic regression coefficient and marginal effects reveal that firm size, main market, gender of owner, number of establishment in the firms positive and significantly affects the credit adoption by 3 textile enterprises. Practical implications The study has some policy implications for various stakeholders such as textile business managers and promoters, government, investors and bankers for entrepreneurship development in textile sector. The study suggests that the government should incentivize small- and medium-sized businesses to increase their exports. The results show that despite government efforts to finance SMEs, fewer SMEs are receiving both short- and long-term credit. To help SMEs in the textile industry overcome financial difficulties and expand their main product market to both domestic and international levels, a soft loan should be provided based on the characteristics of textile enterprises. Originality/value The present study suggests the evidence-based understanding of textile business environment. The value and uniqueness of this study is to explore an ease of business textile sector using comprehensive enterprises survey data of World Bank.

    Heliyon, 2023
Undoubtedly, throughout the past half-century, environmental quality has emerged as a significant obstacle to both economic and social endeavors. Recent local and international policy debates have focused on environmental deterioration and global warming, but how governments balance economic growth and environmental sustainability is still enigmatic. For this reason, we have examined the determinants of environmental quality in India from 1972 to 2021. More specifically, we have investigated whether the fiscal deficit is 'curse' or 'haven' for environmental quality (CO2) in India. Moreover, this study deliberated four other predictors, comprising technological development (TIN), fossil fuel consumption (FFC), urbanization (Ub), and human capital index (HCI). In order to attain this objective, a range of econometric estimation techniques are employed to ensure the validity and reliability of the outcomes. For instance, we have employed a battery of ARDL approaches, such as standard ARDL, nonlinear ARDL, and multiple threshold NARDL approaches. In light of our research findings, we will be focusing directly on the examination of the NARDL and MTNARDL outcomes. This is due to the empirical evidence indicating the existence of asymmetric effects resulting from FD on CO2 emissions in India. The NARDL approach reveals that the consequence of fiscal deterioration is more pronounced, and the influence of fiscal progress is mild in terms of CO2 emission growth. Further, the outcomes of the MTNARDL approach revealed that the size of the extremely low changes in FD is much higher than the extremely high changes in FD in both models. This implies that as the FD rises, CO2 ascends more significantly, and when the FD lowers, CO2 declines progressively. In a nutshell, FD has a long-run positive and asymmetric impact on CO2 in India; thus, we may conclude that FD is considered the 'curse' for CO2 in India. Furthermore, TIN, HCI, and Ub have detrimental effects on CO2, whereas FFC stimulates CO2 in India. This research work provides some important policy implications for environmentalists, economists and macroeconomic policymakers to promote a green and healthy environment.
  • Adoption of blockchain as a solution strategy for financial inclusion: Evidence from rural India
Hari Prapan Sharma, Mini Jain, Peter U. Anuforo
Impact of AI Innovation on Financial Sectors in the Era of Industry 5 0, 2023
Reviewing the research on ‘financial inclusion,' ‘adoption,' and ‘blockchain in India,' the authors of this chapter find that addressing financial exclusion necessitates overcoming four obstacles: limited geographical accessibility, poor banking products, exorbitant charges, and a lack of financial literacy. Blockchain technology can solve the majority of these problems. The authors have planned a research agenda on implementation experience, agreement patterns, and approved outcomes to help direct the development of this understanding. Finding the answers to these study questions would help us understand how blockchain-based technology is being adopted in rural India differently. This study makes a practical contribution by discussing how blockchain might diminish the problem of financial exclusion in rural India and create a global network system that could link rural India. The authors tried to reveal the gaps in knowledge that need to be filled in order for rural Indians to be financially included constitutes the theoretical contribution.

The green synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles is an efficient, simple, and chemical-free method of producing nanoparticles. The present work reports the synthesis of Murraya koenigii-mediated ZrO2 nanoparticles (ZrO2 NPs) and their applications as a photocatalyst and antibacterial agent. Capping and stabilization of metal oxide nanoparticles were achieved by using Murraya koenigii leaf extract. The optical, structural, and morphological valance of the ZrO2 NPs were characterized using UV-DRS, FTIR, XRD, and FESEM with EDX, TEM, and XPS. An XRD analysis determined that ZrO2 NPs have a monoclinic structure and a crystallite size of 24 nm. TEM and FESEM morphological images confirm the spherical nature of ZrO2 NPs, and their distributions on surfaces show lower agglomerations. ZrO2 NPs showed high optical absorbance in the UV region and a wide bandgap indicating surface oxygen vacancies and charge carriers. The presence of Zr and O elements and their O=Zr=O bonds was categorized using EDX and FTIR spectroscopy. The plant molecules’ interface, bonding, binding energy, and their existence on the surface of ZrO2 NPs were established from XPS analysis. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue using ZrO2 NPs was examined under visible light irradiation. The 94% degradation of toxic MB dye was achieved within 20 min. The antibacterial inhibition of ZrO2 NPs was tested against S. aureus and E. coli pathogens. Applications of bio-synthesized ZrO2 NPs including organic substance removal, pathogenic inhibitor development, catalysis, optical, and biomedical development were explored.
