  • An extensive review of the effects of laser cutting parameters on metal surface and kerf quality
, Nitin A. Kharche, Vishal N. Sulakhe, , Prasad R. Baviskar, , Kiran Kaware, and
Research on Engineering Structures and Materials, 2026
The aerospace, marine, automotive, construction, and military industries, as well as ordinary consumer items, place a great deal of significance on sheet metals such as titanium alloys, steel alloys, and aluminum alloys. Understanding how laser cutting parameters affect cutting quality is crucial since laser cutting has become a top non-conventional technology for precision sheet metal cutting. This thorough analysis explores the complex link between the parameters used in laser cutting and the final surface quality and kerf characteristics, identifying the parameters that have the biggest influence on cutting quality. This review also provides a detailed comparison that emphasizes the benefits of laser cutting over conventional machine methods. It also explores the nuances of laser cutting, differentiating between different laser sources and their unique properties in terms of material thickness and advantages. Moreover, it offers a thorough analysis of the characteristics and range of uses of the materials being studied. The review provides a methodical classification of the examined literature by carefully defining performance parameters with the use of graphical representations and equations, and by arranging research analysis and discussions with the use of detailed tables and graphs. In order to produce the best results in terms of low surface roughness, minimal heat-affected zone (HAZ) width, narrow kerf width, and ideal kerf angle, it is crucial to use certain parameters, which include low laser power, high cutting speed, moderate gas pressure, adequate standoff distance, intermediate pulse frequency and width, small nozzle diameter, decreased material thickness, and nitrogen as an assist gas.

International Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2025
Structural damage monitoring is inevitable for the structures to perform during their intended service life adroitly. In the present review, literature related to techniques for diagnosing vibration-intensive damages have been evaluated in order to determine the material characteristics, such as stiffness and damping. Also, extensive review has been presented in the for damage detection in composite materials. The review encompasses the literature published in last 42 years, i.e., 1982 to 2024. The literature review is classified into sections as damage detection workflow, composite materials, damage detection techniques, and advanced damage detection techniques. The usage of strain energy, mode-shapes, waveform dimension, wavelet transform and updating finite element models in detection of damage are also discussed. Further, an overview of concepts, techniques, and advancement in vibration-induced damage detection are presented. The limitations of each technique are explained. An insight on advanced techniques and tools from genetic algorithm and artificial neural network regarding their employability to detect the damage is provided. This work portrays the damage detection methodologies.

  • A recapitulation of solar dryers in realm - evaluating geometry, modes, thermal energy storage, and applications in agricultural produce
    Yogesh D. KOKATE
    Journal of Thermal Engineering, 2024
Waste of agricultural produce attributed poor post-harvest management practices. To resolve this problem now days solar drying system gained hegemony to preserve and process the agricultural produce. The study systematically analyses the experimentation conducted on different factors of solar dryer, including its geometry, modes, agricultural produce, heat storage materials, mathematical models, and validation through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) analysis, providing valuable insights for future study. In the reviewed literature, the desiccation of agricultural produce commonly occurs within the air temperature range of 28C to 86C.It was found that the most effective desiccation of agricultural produce in solar dryer cabinets takes place within the air temperature range of 50C to 65C, leads to reduce drying time.In the majority of studies aimed at improving the desiccation rate, air circulation is achieved through the use of blowers or fans, with velocities typically rang of 0.5 m/s to 2 m/s.Additionally, the air flow rates employed in these studies vary from 0.003 kg/s to 0.09 kg/s.However, further research and investment are needed to enhance solar drying technologies, exploring new geometries, intermittent air circulation, desiccants to reduce air humidity and make them available to more farmers across the world.
  • MODEL ANALYSIS OF WORM GEAR PAIR SYSTEM USING FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS
Raghavendra Rajendra Barshikar, Prasad R. Baviskar, Milind M. Patil, Anil S Dube, Vishal J Dhore
International Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2024
Spur gear, helical gear, worm gear, and bevel gear are all important components in industrial applications such as vehicles, pushes, conveyors, elevators, bowl mill, rolling mills, ribbon blender, machine tools, aeroplanes, and windmills. When various types of defects, such as wear, tooth breakage, corrosion, and scratches on bearings, appear in gearboxes, normal machine function may be abruptly terminated. As a result, output and dependability suffer. As a result, several quality tracking and evaluation approaches have been adopted by companies. Finite element analysis (FEA) is one of the approaches. This research paper presents the FEA of a ribbon blender worm gear pair by using Ansys 18.0 to identify the weak gear of the worm gear pair, natural frequency, and deformation. Proe-5 utilized for creation of three-dimensional geometry of threaded worm and toothed worm wheels, as well as other related elements such as shafts and bearings. Steel is used for the worm, shaft, and bearing, whereas bronze is used for the worm wheel. Ansys 18.0 is implemented to carry out worm gear pair model analysis. The results demonstrate that the worm wheel had the most deformation when compared to the worm, and that the natural frequency is greater than the operational frequency of the worm gear pair. The findings of the research study, worm wheel deteriorate early than worm, model analysis plays a significant role in vibration monitoring of worm gear pair, and this work is valuable for further fault analysis of ribbon blender worm gearbox utilising vibration response.

International Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2023
In industrial applications, worm gearboxes are a key element. In a worm gearbox, as the material of a worm wheel is softer than that of a worm screw, the worm wheel gear is vulnerable to failure through various modes like pitting, wearing out, or tooth breakage during the sliding process. Due to this, it is essential to monitor the failure of the worm wheel gear of the worm gearbox, and it has gained importance for the diagnosis of faults in gearboxes. The present work focuses on the investigation of the effect of worm wheel tooth breakage, worm wheel bearing outer race, and varying load on vibration signature amplitude and frequency domain statistical features such as root mean square (RMS), crest factor, kurtosis, mean, peak to peak, skewness, sample variance, and standard deviation. The experimental setup is fabricated to conduct the experimental trials. An OR34 FFT analyzer with NVGate software is used to acquire the frequency domain vibration signature. Experimental results show that captured vibration signature amplitude for healthy worm wheel and bearing increased as fault occurred on the worm wheel, and bearing and frequency domain statistical features value changed with the change in fault location in the worm gearbox.
