Purpose Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques are decision support systems that provide systematic approaches to solve hospitality and tourism (H&T) problems while minimizing the risk of failure. However, less is known about the application of MCDM techniques in H&T research. This study aims to systematically assess the use of MCDM techniques in H&T research to classify its current application and determine its application potential for H&T research. Design/methodology/approach This study used bibliometric analysis to examine all published MCDM studies focused on H&T industries, since 1997. In addition, topic modelling was used to discover key concepts. Finally, top cited studies in terms of total citations per year and total citations were qualitatively reviewed for more insights. Findings The findings revealed an ongoing interest in applying MCDM techniques in H&T research. Specifically, the extension of fuzzy theory in MCDM techniques is burgeoning among H&T researchers. However, a certain number of MCDM techniques seem to be ignored in this field with a repetitive application of MCDM techniques in particular areas. Research limitations/implications The data for the current research was solely retrieved from Scopus and other databases were not included. Therefore, future research is called for to re-examine the study by considering data from various databases. Originality/value This study contributes to extant H&T literature by identifying the most prolific and influential countries, journals, publications and trends by applying MCDM techniques in H&T research, and elucidating the implications and characteristics of MCDM techniques in H&T research.

    Academic World Research
Background Bibliometric analysis may indicate the most active specialist, authors, and journals in a given research field. To the authors' knowledge, there is no bibliometric analysis to provide a macroscopic overview in the field of secondhand smoke that harms non-smoker. Methods Using the bibliometric method, 644 articles that were present in the Scopus database between 1973-2020 on the subject were considered. The data were analyzed by two visualization and science-mapping software called Bibliometrix and VoS Viewer. Also, reference publication year stereoscopy and Co-Citation historiography were used. In the qualitative analysis, 52 articles were selected that had the most citation and were analyzed. Results In this paper, the findings show that the documents were published in 364 sources with an average citation per document of 25.14 and more than 3 authors or nearly 4 authors per document. The peak reference publication year stereoscopy happened in the year 199 with 974 references. The countries with the highest number of MCP were the USA, China, and Spain. The “International Journal of Environmental Research” and “Public Health”, has raised their publications in the field of secondhand smoke and pregnancy rapidly since 2003. Among the titles, "passive smoking" was the most used. Conclusion The study highlights the importance of understanding the harmful effects of secondhand smoke on the developing fetus. The findings also shed light on key research trends, influential authors, and active research areas, which can guide future studies and support evidence-based decision-making in the field of maternal and child health.

    Sciedu Press
Barry J Zimmerman considered that self-regulated learning is an active learning process including strategy use, metacognition, and motivation. Self-regulation failure is the core problem of academic procrastination, which seriously threatens academic success. The present research aims to provide a complete outline of SRL and catch the trends and current hotspots. VOSviewer and Bibliometric software was used to analyze the data from the Web of Science core collection database. The results showed that there are a considerable number of publications of articles on self-regulated learning every year; the USA is the most influential country, and Maastricht University is the most productive institution; it is clear that most authors do not like to cooperate with others, which leads to major groups of writers like Azevedo Roger and Gasevic Dragan. The Frontiers in Psychology is an influential journal that received much more articles and citations. The main hotspots of self-regulated learning were: (a) self-regulated learning; (b) self-regulation; (c) metacognition; (d) motivation; (e) learning analytics. In a word, this study is useful for practitioners and scholars to comprehensively understand the trend of self-regulated learning research.

<p>Multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) techniques constitute a practical approach for solving complex problems involving multiple and often conflicting criteria. Decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) is a popular MADM technique with both admirers and critics. This study presents a comprehensive review of DEMATEL through bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database. This article examined 3,521 papers published in journals, conferences or books between 1981 and 2023. We examined a few parameters for commenting on the performance of the technique. Among them are research outputs, the network of DEMATEL users, implementation subject areas, research zones, financing opportunities and publication hosts and their impact trends. We conclude from the findings of this study that the DEMATEL is capable of dealing with modern problem-solving in future environments. Although the growth of new MADMs is obvious, based on the gathered data, we forecast that more than 776 documents will be published in 2025 using DEMATEL for problem-solving. This expanding tendency will continue in the future. As distinct MADMs have diverse constraints, foundations, computing complexity and standpoints, which result in different performances, outmoded low-performance MADM techniques must be reported by researchers to continue this paper's objective to minimize ambiguity among decision-makers and practitioners. To facilitate such a comparison in the future, a quantitative performance coefficient was also developed here.</p>

  • A Bibliometric Statistical Analysis of the Fuzzy Inference System - Based Classifiers
Wenhao Chen, Md Manjur Ahmed, Wan Isni Sofiah, Nor Ashidi Mat Isa, Nader Ale Ebrahim, and Tao Hai

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
Nowadays, under the pressure of numerous research publications, researchers increasingly pay attention to writing survey papers to track and understand one research topic they are interested in, and then begin to conduct more in-depth research. Until this moment, there are two types of survey papers: traditional review analysis and bibliometric statistical analysis. Compared with traditional review analysis, due to the analysis of various bibliometric information that can be quickly summarized to assess and predict one research field’s development, the bibliometric statistical analysis is progressively proposed. However, no research relied on the bibliometric approach to explore fuzzy inference system (FIS) -based classifiers. More importantly, since the current open-ended bibliometric analysis approaches have different assessment focuses, choosing a suitable approach is problematic. Therefore, based on the extraction, integration, and expansion of previous bibliometric analysis theories, this research proposes a new systematic and time-saving bibliometric statistical analysis approach. It is worth noting that the proposed approach eliminates the need to read the internal content of all publications. Two core parts (Publication Information and TOP 20 SETs) are generated by the proposed analysis approach. Among them, analyzing Author Keywords and TOP 20 SETs are unprecedented guiding features to assist researchers in exploring research topic. Significantly, this research relies on the proposed approach to explore FIS-based classifiers. Various assessments cover the bibliometric information of the entire related publications. In addition, these results may need to be considered to increase the citation rate of future publications.

    SAGE Publications
This study diachronically investigates the trend of the “open access” in the Web of Science (WoS) category of “communication.” To evaluate the trend, data were collected from 184 categories of WoS from 1980 to 2017. A total of 87,997,893 documents were obtained, of which 95,304 (0.10%) were in the category of “communication.” In average, 4.24% of the documents in all 184 categories were open access. While in communication, it was 3.29%, which ranked communication 116 out of 184. An Open Access Index (OAI) was developed to predict the trend of open access in communication. Based on the OAI, communication needs 77 years to fully reach open access, which undeniably can be considered as “crisis in scientific publishing” in this field. Given this stunning information, it is the time for a global call for “open access” by communication scholars across the world. Future research should investigate whether the current business models of publications in communication scholarships are encouraging open access or pose unnecessary restrictions on knowledge development.
