    The sisal-fibre reinforced epoxy composite is fabricated with hand layup method using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. The novelty of the present investigation is treatment of fibres with sodium bicarbonate, which is economical and eco-friendly as compared to other alkaline treatments like sodium hydroxide, isocyanate triazine in development of epoxy composite. The controlled process parameters viz. fibre length (mm), fibre content (wt%), and concentration of sodium bicarbonate (wt% by vol.) is considered in maximising the output response characteristic, i.e., tensile strength (Mpa). The average output response characteristic is measured as per ASTM D638 at defined set of experimentation condition. Moreover, variation in output response characteristics is predicted through ANOVA and significant effect of individual process parameters are identified. The statistical analysis exhibits that the fibre length is the most significant parameter in maximising the output response followed by sodium bicarbonate concentration, and fibre content. It is also observed that the maximum average tensile strength is achieved 79.93 Mpa with 6 mm fibre length, 20 wt% fibre content, and 10 wt% by vol. sodium bicarbonate in development of sisal-fibre reinforced epoxy composite.

    Bauxite residue is the waste generated during alumina production by Bayer’s process. The amount of bauxite residue (40–50 wt%) generated depends on the quality of bauxite ore used for the processing. High alkalinity and high caustic content in bauxite residue causes environmental risk for fertile soil and ground water contamination. The caustic (NaOH) content in bauxite residue leads to human health risks, like dermal problems and irritation to eyes. Moreover, disposal of bauxite residue requires a large area; such problems can only be minimised by utilising bauxite residue effectively. For two decades, bauxite residue has been used as a binder in cement industries and filler/reinforcement for composite materials in the automobile industry. Valuable metals and oxides, like alumina (Al2O3), titanium oxide (TiO2) and iron oxide Fe2O3, were extracted from bauxite residue to reduce waste. Bauxite residue was utilised in construction and structure industries to make geopolymers. It was also used in the making of glass-ceramics and a coating material. Recently bauxite residue has been utilised to extract rare earth elements like scandium (Sc), yttrium (Y), lanthanum (La), cerium (Ce), neodymium (Nd) and dysprosium (Dy). In this review article, the mineralogical characteristics of bauxite residue are summarised and current progresses on utilisation of bauxite residue in different fields of science and engineering are presented in detail.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES & ACHIEVEMENTS

Registered the case no. 11345/24/51/2020 dated 1 July 2020 of Mainpuri (UP) burning incident (5 family persons including 3 year old baby boy was set into fire by victim Murari and others) in Human Right Commission (HR), India. The case is in hearing stage.

Represented the mater of 15 years girl child rape case to Home Minister, Haryana on dated 26th March 2021.

Organized the webinar on “Modernization and trade of earthwork” on 13th Feb 2022 and key note speaker was Shri Mansukh Bhai Prajapati founder of “Mitti cool”.

Appointed as an auditor in the matter of financial irregularities and other irregularities in Guru Daksh Private ITI, Arya Nagar, Hisar.

Represented the matter in Public hearing of Panchayti Raj Institutions (PRIs) reservation matter of BC – A category held by Haryana Backward Class Commission at Hissar, Haryana on dated 20th Aug 2022.
