Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Methylene Blue Adsorption by Styrene-Maleic Anhydride/PEG-Based Hydrogels Faiza Bettahar, Ramzi Jalgham, Fadila Bekkar, Mohammed I. Ferahi, Rachid Meghabar Egyptian Journal of Chemistry, 2026 Adsorptive materials must fulfill various criteria, such as application versatility, ease of synthesis, reusability, environmental sustainability, and cost-effectiveness in production. This study focused on synthesizing a dual-polymeric material composed of biocompatible copolymer (styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) cross-linked with poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG). The obtained copolymer SMA and hydrogels were characterized with several analytical techniques as FTIR, TGA, and UV spectroscopy. The study of methylene blue adsorption included both equilibrium adsorption isotherms and kinetics. The adsorption performance toward methylene blue was investigated through equilibrium isotherms and kinetic studies. The Langmuir isotherm model provided the best fit to the equilibrium data, indicating monolayer adsorption behavior. Among the prepared materials, SMA–PEG1 (based on PEG with a molecular weight of 200 g•mol⁻¹) exhibited the highest maximum adsorption capacity compared to SMA–PEG2 (PEG 6000 g•mol⁻¹) and SMA–PEG3 (PEG 8000 g•mol⁻¹). Furthermore, the geometries of the SMA–PEG hydrogels were optimized using Density Functional Theory (DFT) at the Becke-3-Lee-Yang-Parr hybrid functional (B3LYP/DND )level of theory, and their electronic properties were analyzed through Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis to better understand their adsorption mechanisms.
Food Dye Green S As a Corrosion Inhibitor for 304L Stainless Steel in Acidic Medium: Electrochemical, Surface, and Theoretical Analysis Sihem Ouchenane, Ramzi. T. T. Jalgham, Nadia Ziani, Sarra Rezgoune, Amel Gharbi, Gourisankar Roymahapatra Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2026 The corrosion inhibition performance of the food dye Green S (GS) on 304L austenitic stainless steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 was evaluated through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. The results showed that GS acts as a good anodic corrosion inhibitor and exhibits an inhibition efficiency of 91.2%, obtained at the concentration 400 ppm of inhibitor. The study of the adsorption isotherm indicates that GS molecules adhere to the stainless steel surface according to Temkin adsorption isotherm, with a standard free energy ( $$\Delta {{G}^\circ_{{{\text{ads}}}}} $$ ) of ‒19.08 kJ mol–1, suggesting spontaneous physical adsorption. SEM surface morphology analysis confirmed the formation of a uniform protective layer in the presence of GS, along with a reduction in surface degradation compared to uninhibited surface. Theoretical study highlighted a strong correlation between the electronic properties of GS and its inhibition behavior, as predicted by frontier molecular orbital analysis and adsorption energy calculation, which were consistent with the experimental data. This study demonstrates that GS is an efficient and low-cost corrosion inhibitor, offering significant potential for protection of stainless steel in acidic environments.

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF GRAPHENE OXIDE-ZINC OXIDE NANOCOMPOSITE THIN FILMS: ENHANCED PHOTOCATALYTIC AND ELECTROCHEMICAL PROPERTIES Merdas Khaoula, Ouchenane Sihem, Amirat Samia, Athmani Sameh, Ramzi T. T. Jalgham, Rehamnia Rabeh Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia, 2025 Graphene, an innovative material, holds transformative potential for industry and technology due to its exceptional properties. This study investigates the fabrication and characterization of a graphene oxide-zinc oxide (ZnO/GO) nanocomposite thin film via electrodeposition and evaluates its electrochemical and photocatalytic performance. The film was thoroughly characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and UV-visible spectroscopy. Results confirmed the successful integration of zinc oxide nanoparticles and graphene oxide nanosheets in the composite film. Incorporating 3D graphene into zinc oxide nanocomposites significantly enhances their photocatalytic activity for degrading methylene orange. Electrochemical studies, including chronopotentiometry and cyclic voltammetry, showed that the ZnO film forms within the range of -0.8 to 1.2 V. Additionally, corrosion resistance for E24 mild steel in 3.5% NaCl solution was demonstrated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), which indicated that zinc oxide effectively adsorbs graphene oxide onto the steel surface, reducing defects and blocking active corrosion sites. The ZnO/GO coating exhibited the lowest double-layer capacitance (1.67 × 10⁻³ F/cm²) and the highest charge transfer resistance (253 Ωcm²), providing effective protection against corrosive degradation of underlying materials.KEY WORDS: Electrodeposition, Graphene oxide, ZnO, Photocatalytic activityBull. Analysis of the Influence of the Thickness of Transparent Conducting Oxide (GZO) With Ga Doping and Its Use as Anode Materials in Organic Light-Emitting Diodes , Himadri Sekhar Das, Dipak Kumar Das, , Subir Kumar Maity, , Debnarayan Khatua, , Gopal Kumar Gupta, , Ramzi T. T. Jalgham, , Takashiro Akitsu, , Ajeet Kaushik, , Gourisankar Roymahapatra, and Es Energy and Environment, 2024 Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) are projected as crucial materials for effective charge injection and light emission, which makes them suitable for developing organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).In this category, Ga-doped Zinc Oxide (GZO), known for its excellent electrical conductivity and transparency, serves as a promising alternative to indium-doped Tin Oxide (ITO).By depositing ZnO:Ga thin films of different thicknesses on glass substrates using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering techniques, we observed that both electrical conductivity and transmittance decrease as the film thickness increases.Conducting X-ray diffraction (XRD) study enabled us to assess the crystalline quality of the films.Through this systematic research, authors determined an optimal range of GZO thicknesses for maximizing OLED performance, considering factors such as charge injection, light extraction, and device fabrication. The insights gained from this research offer valuable contributions to enhancing the transparency and performance of OLEDs.This advancement is crucial for various lighting and display applications, ultimately making OLED technology more cost-effective and efficient.By providing a deeper understanding of the relationship between GZO film thickness and OLED functionality, this study paves the way for further developments in OLED technology, facilitating its widespread adoption in diverse industries.
A Theoretical Study on Au(I) Decorated Isomeric Triazine Complexes as A New Class of Hydrogen Storage Materials Abhishek Bag, , Santanab Giri, Periyathambi Dhaiveegan, Ramji T. T. Jhalgam, Gobinda Chandra De, Jhuma Ganguly, Gourisankar Roymahapatra, , , , , , , and Es Energy and Environment, 2024 The requirement of energy in our daily life is continuously increased. We consume different type of fossil fuel (like oil, coal and natural gas) resources in order to obtain energy. Due to exhausted condition of fossil fuel their prices have increased and new energy sources have been sought. On the other hand, the use of fossil fuel is reduced in order to reduce the carbon emission in accordance with internal agreement. Therefore, the use of clean energy resource is encouraged. Due to this reason, the hydrogen fuel has accounted for a responsible area in the global fuel economy. However, the problem is that the ideal system for H 2 storage application remains a challenge. In this article, we have reported a theoretical investigation of Au(I)-decorated three isomeric triazine (123, 124, 135) using density functional theory (DFT) at different functional like CAM-B3LYP, M05, and different basis sets like 6-311+g (d, p), 6-31+G*, and LanL2DZ. Depending on average adsorption energy, Gibbs free energy change, and other CDFT parameters, it is clear that the adsorption of H 2 molecules occurs on the metal center of studied MOFs.
