A detailed study is reported in this work on AZ31 Mg alloy coated with Ti thin films of different thicknesses by DC sputtering to investigate the capability of Ti coating to prevent corrosion of AZ31 under an aqueous environment similar to seawater. Ti films have been fabricated to 50, 100 and 150 nm thicknesses. Utilising grazing incidence-XRD and SEM, the films’ structure and microstructure were studied. The films were amorphous. Due to corrosion, interesting micro-structures evolved. Corrosion inhibition characteristics of the Ti films were characterised by electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarisation and impedance spectroscopy. Ti films with 100 nm and 150 nm thickness show a good inhibition capability. The corrosion mechanism was investigated using XPS and X-ray energy dispersive spectra.
Corrosion inhibition capabilities of aluminium thin films on AZ31 magnesium alloy Sundeep Kumar Marndi, Pachaiappan Raman, Amirthapandian Sankarakumar, Ponpandian Nagamony, Paramasivam Thangadurai Materials Science and Technology United Kingdom, 2023 Al coating of varying thicknesses in the 50 to 200 nm range was coated on AZ31 Mg alloys to improve its corrosion capabilities. The thermal evaporation method is used for coating AZ31 Mg alloys. GIXRD, SEM, AFM and XEDS studied the structure, microstructure, and chemical analysis. GIXRD studies showed an amorphous thin film on the surface. AFM showed that the surface roughness increases with the coating thickness. Corrosion studies were done by electrochemical analysis in 3.5 wt-% NaCl environment. The Al coating has improved the corrosion resistance of the AZ31 alloy to the best with the lowest corrosion rate 0.07 mmpy, with the corrosion current density and corrosion potential of 0.32 × 10 −5 A/cm 2 and −1.17 V, respectively.

Turpu Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2018 The CrVO4 and reduced graphene oxide (rGO)–CrVO4 composite has been synthesized through solid-state reaction and modified Hummer method and ultrasonication-assisted solid-state reaction method, respectively. The structural, compositional, and morphological features were studied by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy techniques. The Raman spectroscopy shows the indicative GO, and CrVO4 peaks, respectively, and the coexistence of these peaks in composite material. The photocatalytic activity of rGO–CrVO4 composite evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye under UV-light irradiation shows improved ability for composite as compared to the parent compound CrVO4. The rate constant evaluated for rGO–CrVO4 is 6.7 × 10–2 min–1.
