Abstract Rapid ignition of fuel mixtures is crucial for efficient operation of airbreathing engines. This study investigates the ignition delay times of ethylene-air, ethylene-oxygen, and Propulsion grade Kerosene-air mixtures under various conditions relevant to airbreathing propulsion systems. Experiments were conducted using a shock tube to measure ignition delay times over a wide range of temperatures (800–1700 K) and equivalence ratios (0.5–1.5). The effects of temperature, pressure, and fuel type on ignition delay were examined. Results demonstrate that ignition delay decreases monotonically with increasing temperature and pressure for all fuel mixtures. A comparison between ethylene and Propulsion Grade Kerosene revealed that the latter exhibits sufficiently short ignition delay times for practical applications in airbreathing engines. Additionally, kinetic modeling was performed using various reaction mechanisms to validate the experimental results, ensuring consistency and reliability of the findings across the range of tested parameters.

Copy move forgery is a technique for altering digital images by copying and pasting contents from the original image into different parts of the same image. It is of great importance to detect tampering as the credibility of digital images are being lost. Keypoint based methods proved to be efficient in localizingforgery. The proposed method uses SURF for feature extractionand improved forgery localization method for efficiently localizing forgery. Finally, comparison with the existing keypoint based methods to prove the efficiency of forgery localization in digital images. The tampered image is displayed as binary image for better understanding. The proposed methods efficiently localize forgery even if the tampered region is rescaled, rotated or blurred. The performance is validated by TPR, FPR and F1 score and comparing the same with the existing methods.

    Advances in Mechanical Engineering, 2022
A high altitude test facility was developed for the experimental studies on nozzles for various levels of vacuum. The current study is focused on the performance of the nozzle under various altitude condition and to characterized the high altitude test facility. A supersonic nozzle designed for Mach 2.5 is used for the study. Compressed air is taped from the high pressure plenum having a pressure of 20 bar and is regulated and expanded through the nozzle. The inlet pressures for the study is varied from 4.5 to 10 bar. The nozzle is within the enclosure which is evacuated to 0.7–0.02 bar. Schlieren is used to view the flow condition at the end of the nozzle. A nozzle for 2.5 Mach is designed and tested in HAT facility. The nozzle design is validated with the CFD for various NPR. The high altitude test facility is characterized for various NPR and is found to be optimum flow at 14 NPR for 33 s at an inlet pressure of 4.5.
  • Experimental investigation of the effect of temperature on ignition of modified kerosene
Aldin Justin Sundararaj, K R Guna, Matthew William
International Journal of Engine Research, 2022
Kerosene based hydrocarbon fuels are preferred candidates for the source of energy due to its stable properties. Based on the requirement of the combustor and the growing concern over pollutant, kerosene based fuels are modified. The fuel under investigation is a modified form of kerosene with ultra-low sulphur content. The effect of temperature on modified kerosene is studied for viscosity, surface tension, specific heat, density and ignition delay. The time delay for ignition of gas-phase mixtures of modified kerosene/oxygen have been measured using a shock tube facility. The experiments are conducted in the temperature range of 1200–1877 K, pressure range of 4–12 atm and equivalence ratio of Ø = 1.5, 1 and 0.5. The ignition delay time measurements were carried out using piezoelectric pressure transducers, which records the pressure rise due to ignition and simultaneously recording the light emission during the process of ignition using a photodiode. The ignition delay is represented as τign = 0.168841 × P−1.49 × Ø0.72 × e(14310/T)

Journal of the Geological Society of India, 2019
Abstract Shock tube facility in the Propulsion and High Enthalpy laboratory, Aerospace Engineering Department, has been extensively used to study the ignition characteristics of fuels by measuring the ignition delay times for various hydrocarbon fuels at high temperatures. Initially a systematic method has been followed to calibrate the shock tube for ignition delay time measurements by measuring the delay times of C2H6 – O2 gas mixture diluted with argon. The results show good agreement with earlier reported works of Ethane ignition. Ignition times of low molecular weight liquefied petroleum gas, a fuel used in many industrial and household applications has been studied in the temperature range of 1250-1880 K and in the pressure range of 6-11 atm at equivalence ratios (Φ = 0.5 & 1). The ignition delay was measured in the reflected shock region by recording the ignition-induced pressure rise and emission from CH radical simultaneously. From the present study it is noted that the ignition delay time for liquefied petroleum gas reduces with increase in temperature and its activation energy lies in the range of 40 kcal/mol.
