Academic Information Seeking Behaviour and Library Use among Visually Impaired Students in Karnataka: A Comparative Study Journal of Indian Library Association, 2024
Soundless Success: A Comprehensive Study of Academic Information Access for Hearing-Impaired Students in Karnataka Dayananadappa Kori, K R Mulla Annals of Library and Information Studies, 2024 The study examines soundless success: a comprehensive study of academic information access for hearing-impaired students in Karnataka. The data was collected using both quantitative and qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews, survey methods, and focus groups conducted among 1027 hearing impaired students in the state of Karnataka. The results of the study showed that hearing impaired students' information-seeking behaviors are similar to those of normal students. Although, their challenges involve searching for information because they do not have modern facilities, due to the lack of support infrastructures at school. In other words, they are bound to encounter barriers before they can meet their information needs. This causes them to waste much time in the information-seeking process, so they are slowed down in many ways. This study identifies constraints and challenges and suggests ways to improve current digital and electronic information sources and services.
Comparative Study of Emotional Correlations, Academic Information-Seeking Behaviour, and Library Services in Special Schools in Karnataka, India Dayanandappa Kori, K. R. Mulla Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology, 2024 The study examines a comparative analysis of students’ emotional correlations, academic information-seeking behavior, and library services in special schools in Karnataka, India. The research data was gathered using qualitative and quantitative methods, including in-depth interviews, survey methods, and focus groups conducted among 2054 specially-abled students in Karnataka. The study is confined to visual and hearing-impaired students. Students from both groups demonstrated high emotional similarity (strong positive correlation, r= .928). However, hearing-impaired students exhibited stronger information-seeking behavior (significant t-value, 3.145). While libraries offered similar service types to both groups (t-value, 1.145), visually impaired students had better access to assistive technology (significant t-value, 5.678), highlighting a resource disparity and suggesting libraries require strategies tailored to student needs.

A realistic approach to information services on mobile apps Arun F. Adrakatti, Kamalasab R. Mulla Journal of Access Services, 2017 The deployment of information services through mobile apps is an innovative plan to provide effective services to end users. Libraries can promote and expand their existing information services by offering mobile apps to access electronic resources, the library Web site, online catalogs, and institutional repositories. This article discusses a realistic approach to enhance library services through mobile applications. The present study focuses on mobile applications adopted in the library of Gogte Institute of Technology. It also discusses the working module, features, and framework of mobile apps.
Mapping of engineering research trend in Karnataka: A special reference to Visvesvaraya Technological University K.R. Mulla, P.V. Konnur Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology, 2013 This paper reports the analysis of doctoral dissertations awarded by Visvesvaraya TechnologicalUniversity (VTU). The primary objective of this study is to understand the growth and developmentof research activities of VTU in the past 13 years. The data for the present study has been collectedfrom two authenticated sources: (a) the data published in the University News: a weekly journal fromthe Association of Indian Universities and (b) the VTU website (http://www.vtu.ac.in/). There are 250doctoral degrees awarded from 2007 to 2011, in 14 engineering and allied domains. The data relatingto research growth and development were analysed and presented under 9 heads viz., chronological,department-wise, frequency-wise, rank-wise distributed doctoral dissertations, productivity of supervisors, ranking of research supervisors, and rank wise distribution of research centers. The authors analysed thebibliographic details of doctoral degrees awarded by VTU. The present situation is that, on an average 50doctoral degrees are being awarded in a year. In 2010 and 2011 the research output traced signifi cantgrowth with the awarding of 156 (62.40 %) doctoral degrees. Substantial research was carried out inmechanical (40.40 %) engineering department. It was also observed that 169 research supervisors arepresently engaged in guiding doctoral students. http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/djlit.33.1.3730
