Rethinking Contemporary Pesantren Law and Economic Independence: A Legal Economic Approach to Institutional Sustainability Anas Alhifni, Biyati Ahwarumi, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Ramadhita, Firdaus Arifin, et al. Milrev Metro Islamic Law Review, 2026 This study critically examines the relationship between Law No. 18 of 2019 concerning Pesantren and the realization of economic independence within Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia through the perspective of law and economics. Although the law formally recognizes pesantren as institutions of community empowerment, this article questions whether normative legal recognition is sufficient to create sustainable economic autonomy. The research employs a doctrinal legal method combined with an institutional economics approach, emphasizing incentive structures, transaction costs, institutional governance, and economic sustainability. Data were analyzed through statutory interpretation, conceptual analysis, and institutional evaluation of pesantren economic practices in contemporary Indonesia. The findings demonstrate a significant gap between normative legal expectations and practical implementation. Many pesantren continue to experience structural limitations in access to capital, managerial professionalism, market integration, and institutional competitiveness, resulting in continued dependence on state assistance and donor-based programs. The study further reveals that the effectiveness of pesantren law is strongly influenced by the design of legal-economic incentives, institutional differentiation between resource-rich and resource-poor pesantren, and the integration of pesantren enterprises into the broader Islamic financial ecosystem. This article argues that economic independence should not be understood as an automatic consequence of legal recognition, but rather as a dynamic and negotiated process involving the interaction of state regulation, market mechanisms, and religious authority. The study contributes to contemporary Islamic legal scholarship by offering an institutional economics framework for pesantren development and proposing policy recommendations focused on incentive-based regulation, tiered Sharia-compliant financing, and sustainable institutional capacity building for pesantren economic transformation.
Reforming Sharia Business Law in Indonesia: Reconstructing a Contemporary Legal Framework for Islamic Financial Integration Achmad Jaka Santos Adiwijaya, Martin Roestamy, Abraham Yazdi Martin, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Ismail Sugardo Jurnal Ilmiah Mizani, 2025 Indonesia's ambition to become a global leader in Islamic finance is significantly hampered by a fragmented and sectoral Sharia business law structure. Despite substantial legislative progress, including the enactment of the Sharia Banking Law (Law No. 21 of 2008), the Financial Services Authority Law (Law No. 21 of 2011), and the Halal Product Assurance Law (Law No. 33 of 2014), regulatory power remains dispersed across various institutions and state agencies. This study employs a qualitative doctrinal legal research method, complemented by comparative and descriptive quantitative analysis, to examine Indonesia's current regulatory configuration against the backdrop of jurisdictions like Malaysia, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, and Brunei Darussalam. The findings reveal that overlapping jurisdictions, delayed implementation of fatwa-based rulings, and the absence of a unified Sharia governance framework have constrained the country's Islamic finance regulation. The paper proposes the establishment of an autonomous, comprehensive Sharia Financial Services Authority, the enactment of a professional Sharia Business Law Code harmonized with international standards, and the adoption of technology-based supervision. This contemporary legal reform is essential to ensure institutional consistency, strengthen legal certainty in Islamic finance, and advance public welfare (maslahah) through a fully integrated Islamic financial system in Indonesia.
BULLYING PREVENTION STRATEGIES THROUGH SCHOOL CAPACITY BUILDING (SCB) IN INTEGRATED ISLAMIC SCHOOLS TO SUPPORT THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs) Irman Suherman, Abraham Yazdi Martin, Imam Kurniawan, Asep Thobibudin Qolyubi, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Lise Purnamasari Jurnal Pendidikan Islam, 2025 Bullying in educational institutions is a critical issue that affects students’ well-being and academic performance, necessitating effective prevention strategies. This study develops a bullying prevention strategy through school capacity building (SCB) in Integrated Islamic Schools to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed to explore the underlying causes of bullying and to formulate effective prevention strategies through SCB. The findings revealed three key themes, the role of school policies in preventing bullying; leadership models for preventing bullying; and the involvement of teachers and parents in fostering a bullying-free environment. The research highlights that a comprehensive approach, integrating structured school policies, strong leadership, and active participation from teachers and parents, is essential for effective bullying prevention. The study emphasizes that sustainable development cannot be realized without peace, and peace cannot be sustained without the development of quality education. This research contributes to the improvement of Islamic education by promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment, which is essential for fostering future leaders and ensuring the advancement of global peace.
QUALITY ASSURANCE IN PESANTREN: MODERNIZATION, ADAPTABILITY, AND INTEGRATION INTO INDONESIA’S EDUCATION SYSTEM Zahra Khusnul Lathifah, R. Siti Pupu Fauziah, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Martin Roestamy, Abraham Yazdi Martin, Syukri Indra, Uman Suherman Jurnal Pendidikan Islam, 2025 This research highlights the critical role of quality assurance in Islamic boarding schools, which are integral to the development of Islamic Education in Indonesia. The primary objective of this study is to employ bibliometric analysis to assess the research achievements, identify national and international networks, and map emerging trends in quality assurance for Islamic boarding schools using Google Scholar data from 2017 to 2021. The study utilized bibliometric methods, including publication, authorship, and citation analysis, and employed VOSviewer software to map the bibliometric data. The analysis revealed 996 scientific publications related to quality assurance and Islamic Education, yielding 6,139 citations and 125 interconnection thresholds. Key terms with strong interconnections include “school,” “private school,” “education,” “Indonesia,” and “student.” Notably, no prior studies have applied bibliometric mapping to explore quality assurance in Islamic boarding schools, highlighting this study’s novel contribution. The findings emphasize the importance of pesantren institutions in preserving local wisdom and their role in nation-building. This research has significant implications for Islamic Education, particularly in urging policymakers to strengthen government policies that enhance the quality and relevance of Education in Islamic boarding schools, ensuring their continued contribution to national development.
Educational management perspective on project-based learning in collaborative subjects: Case study of student-centered learning (SCL) paradigm in Indonesia Zahra Khusnul Lathifah, Mega Febrianisya, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Helmia Tasti Adri, Tria Nurul Islamia, et al. Kasetsart Journal of Social Sciences, 2025 This research aims to examine and analyse in depth how project-based learning is implemented in collaborative science subjects from an educational management perspective. The method used in this research is qualitative research with a case study type.Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation studies.Data analysis using the Miles and Huberman model includes the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The research results show the application of Project-Based Learning in collaboration subjects (social and science subjects) in educational management reviews, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.Student-Centered Learning (SCL) paradigm through PjBL has still needed the involvement of teacher and parents, while it promoted the independency of students in learning activity. The research is limited to social and science collaboration subjects (IPAS).Therefore, it is recommended that further research be conducted on other subjects and another class level to see different interpretations.

Resilient Values of SDGs in the Indonesian Language Curriculum (CCS) Martin Roestamy, Abraham Yazdi Martin, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Megan Asri Humaira, Irman Suherman, et al. International Journal of Language Education, 2025 This study aims to analyse the role of Compulsory Courses in the Indonesian Language Curriculum (CCS) in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. Specifically, it investigates how CCS, as a foundational educational component, contributes to linguistic proficiency, character development, cultural preservation, and sustainable human progress, aligning with SDG targets such as quality education, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. The research employs a qualitative approach by analyzing national policies, pedagogical strategies, and recent academic literature related to Indonesian language education. This multi-faceted analysis evaluates the integration of SDG principles within CCS and assesses its effectiveness in fostering sustainable development. The findings reveal that CCS significantly strengthens national identity, academic literacy, and civic responsibility. It achieves this by embedding local wisdom, environmental consciousness, and social ethics into the curriculum. These outcomes occur because CCS serves as a holistic educational framework that not only emphasizes language skills but also integrates cultural and ethical values, thereby aligning with the broader objectives of the SDGs. The results of this study underscore the potential of CCS as a strategic tool for sustainable education in Indonesia. They provide a foundation for policymakers to refine and enhance the curriculum, ensuring it remains a robust platform for achieving long-term developmental goals. Furthermore, this research highlights the importance of integrating local and global perspectives in education to foster a more sustainable and equitable future.
A comparative study of community service integration in high school education: insights from Malaysian and Indonesian teachers’ practices Zahra Khusnul Lathifah, R. Siti Pupu Fauziah, Radif Khotamir Rusli, Irman Suherman, Tengku Faekah Tengku Ariffin, Hasniza Nordin Cogent Education, 2025 This study presents a comparative analysis of community service integration in schools across Indonesia and Malaysia, examining distinct methods, challenges, and outcomes in different educational settings. Through semi-structured interviews with 13 participants—seven from Indonesia (teachers, a school principal, a program coordinator, and students) and six from Malaysia (teachers, a program coordinator, and students)—we explored how cultural values, national policies, and institutional goals shape community service implementation. Thematic analysis revealed significant differences: Indonesian schools employ highly structured, curriculum-integrated programs, particularly in vocational education where initiatives emphasize long-term skill development. Malaysian schools adopt a flexible, collaborative approach, partnering with external organizations to provide diverse community engagement opportunities that emphasize social interaction and civic responsibility. Findings indicate that Indonesia’s structured model excels at fostering practical competencies and readiness for future careers, while Malaysia’s collaborative model cultivates broader community awareness and social responsibility. Common challenges include resource limitations, insufficient teacher training, and difficulties assessing long-term impact. This research suggests that a hybrid approach combining structured skill-building with flexible collaboration could enhance the effectiveness of community service in both countries and comparable educational contexts.
