The objectives of this study are to record the use of plant species in traditional medicine among the Tidung people in Sebatik Island, and to identify the types of plant species utilized for food packaging by them. The research used a qualitative approach, by conducting semi-structured interviews with Tidung informants to gather local knowledge of traditional practices. Field observations were also conducted to identify the sources of these plants, particularly those growing near their homes. This study found that the Tidung community in Sebatik Island, Tawau, utilizes various plant leaves as natural food wrappers, preserving traditional knowledge and promoting sustainable packaging. This study explores the different plant species leaves used, including bolombong ( Scaphium spp .), keladi ( Colocasia esculenta ), bamboo ( Bambusa spp .), coconut ( Cocos nucifera ), and banana ( Musa spp .). These leaves serve multiple functions, such as enhancing food preservation, imparting unique Flavours, and reducing environmental waste. The preference for natural wrappers reflects the community’s deep connection with nature and resourcefulness in utilizing local biodiversity. Understanding this traditional knowledge provides valuable insights into indigenous food culture and supports sustainable packaging alternatives in modern food industries.
MOBILITY ISSUES AMONG THE ELDERLY IN KOTA KINABALU, SABAH: AN INITIAL STUDY Universiti Malaysia Sabah, HARIFAH MOHD NOOR, Adilah Md Ramli, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Jurry Foo, et al. Journal of Sustainability Science and Management, 2024 Ageing has become an issue of concern in developing countries such as Malaysia. Senior citizens are still able to contribute to employment, albeit with mobility demands. The purpose of this study is to explore mobility issues among the elderly. This study used a mixed-method approach. Purposive sampling survey forms were delivered to 644 people aged 60 years and above. The study interviewed three informants to support the research’s findings. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential approaches such as percentages, mean scores and cross-tabulation. The results revealed that health had become a major mobility issue. Their limited access to public transport and unfamiliarity with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has limited their choices of transportation such as e-hailing services. Most have strong support from their families or children to reach their destinations. However, not all elderly have access to a private car and do not live with children or other family members. The challenge is to improve public transit and enhance ICT usage to meet the mobility needs of the elderly. The findings can be utilised to generate ideas for local authorities and various agencies to develop policies and strategies to satisfy the mobility needs of the elderly.

Analysis of Urban Land Use Changes in Xingtai City from the Year 2000 to 2020 for Urban Development Planning Xu Lu, Wei Xingtao, JURRY FOO ASM Science Journal, 2024 Land use changes as a result of urban development are inevitable. This study is based on three aspects: spatial and temporal land use changes, spatial distribution characteristics, and the state of land resource development today. In this study, the land use status of Xingtai City over the previous 20 years is systematically examined using the global and local Moran's I value, information entropy for land use structures, and land use extent models. The results indicate that, firstly, the built-up land in Xingtai City has rapidly increased while farmland land has continued to decline, with a decrease of 9.93% in farmland and an increase of 84.16% in built-up land. Secondly, the utilisation rate of land resources in Xingtai City has increased annually, as has the l information entropy for land use structures, the extent of land use, and the comprehensive land use dynamic extent index. Qiaoxi District and Qiaodong District have the most significant upward trend. And thirdly, the land use types in the study area exhibit spatial aggregation characteristics, and single land use type cold and hot spots demonstrate spatial clustering.
