Recovery strategies for EoL solar panels: Sustainable and circular economy practices Abhishek Kumar Tripathi, Mangalpady Aruna, Anil Kumar Thandlam, Sumit Sharma, Amit Jhalani, Raj Kumar Green Materials, 2025 The rapid expansion of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology underscores the urgent need for sustainable End-of-Life (EoL) management to address resource scarcity and environmental concerns. As solar panel adoption grows, efficient and eco-friendly disposal methods are crucial. This study, aligned with SDG 7 and SDG 12, proposes an integrated recycling approach combining thermal, chemical, and green methods to maximize material recovery with minimal environmental impact. Thermal treatment delaminates panels, preserving silicon wafers and glass, followed by eco-friendly chemical processes to recover critical metals like silver and aluminum. By incorporating green solvents, this approach overcomes limitations of conventional methods, supporting circular economy principles while reducing waste. The recovered materials can be repurposed for manufacturing new solar panels or other high-value applications, enhancing resource efficiency. Additionally, this method offers cost-effective and scalable solutions for global solar panel waste management. Future research should focus on industrial scalability and economic feasibility to promote widespread adoption. Advancing such sustainable recycling strategies will strengthen solar energy’s role in environmental responsibility and long-term resource conservation.
Design of microbial fuel cell for power generation using milk and Lactobacillus bacteria Suyog N. Jain, Saurabh Kulkarni, Rohit Fulzele, Anil Kumar, Yennam Rajesh, Priyanka B. Shivde, S. Rikame Indian Journal of Chemical Technology, 2025 This study investigates the use of milk as a substrate in a Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) for power generation with Lactobacillus bacteria. In place of semipermeable membrane separating the anodic and cathodic chamber in MFC, salt bridge made from agar-agar gel is used as a conducting medium. KMnO 4 is used as an oxidizer in cathodic chamber in MFC and open circuit voltage (OCV) is observed for various systems by changing anodic and cathodic chamber volume, bacterial concentration. Maximum OCV of 2.01 V is obtained with 300 million Lactobacillus sporogenes added to anode of 600 mL working volume containing 100 mL milk and 500 mL water mixture. Novel approach was used to design new structure of salt bridge which can act as conducting medium and also as a cathode. This system achieved a maximum OCV of 1.13 V. Sodium hypochlorite (0.6 w/v%) has been evaluated as an alternative oxidant to potassium permanganate, achieving a maximum OCV of 1.66 V. The obtained results depicted that the milk as a substrate in MFC along with Lactobacillus has considerable power generation scope which can be further improvised.
'Next-Gen Vehicle Safety: The Futuristic Approach to Auto-Stop in Modern Vehicles' Anil Kumar Thandlam, T. Vignesh, A Saravanan, Prakash Subramani, Ramaganesh Marimuthu, Sandeep Gupta Proceedings of the 2024 10th International Conference on Communication and Signal Processing Iccsp 2024, 2024 In the realm of next-generation vehicle safety, this project introduces a cutting-edge approach to auto-stop functionality in modern vehicles. Leveraging the state-of the-art YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm, the system focuses on enhancing driver safety through two critical aspects: facial identification and drowsiness monitoring. The YOLO algorithm efficiently detects and analyses facial features, providing real-time identification of the driver. Simultaneously, the system employs advanced drowsiness monitoring techniques, utilizing facial cues to gauge the driver's alertness levels. This futuristic safety initiative aims to mitigate potential accidents caused by driver fatigue or distraction by implementing an automatic auto-stop mechanism. The YOLO algorithm's speed and accuracy play a pivotal role in enabling swift and reliable detection of facial attributes, ensuring a seamless integration with the vehicle's safety system. By seamlessly integrating facial identification and drowsiness monitoring, the project presents a comprehensive solution to enhance road safety. The innovation lies in the project's ability to interpret facial expressions, track eye movements, and discern signs of drowsiness, enabling the vehicle to proactively intervene when a compromised driver state is detected. With an emphasis on real-time responsiveness, the system strives to revolutionize auto-stop technology, creating a safer driving environment for both the driver and other road users. This abstract encapsulates a groundbreaking fusion of advanced computer vision, machine learning, and automotive safety, ushering in a new era of proactive accident prevention in next-gen vehicles.
Evaluation of Activated Biochar from Sustainable Sterculia foetida Shells for the Removal of AB 158 Dye Yennam Rajesh, Neha Gautam, Jai Shah, Anil Kumar Thandlam, Sakshi Gole, Pragati Nirgude, Ganesh Dabhade Journal of Environmental Nanotechnology, 2024 The escalating concern over environmental pollution, particularly stemming from industrial effluents like textile dyes, has necessitated the development of sustainable wastewater treatment methods. This study focuses on utilizing agricultural waste, specifically sterculia foetida shells, to synthesize activated carbon for the removal of Acid Blue 158 (AB 158) dye from aqueous solutions. Through a comprehensive investigation, activated carbon samples were produced using various chemical activating agents and characterized using techniques such as BET surface area analysis, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results indicate that the SFS-AC-K-13 adsorbent exhibited superior adsorption performance, with a maximum dye uptake of 388 mg/g and a removal efficiency of 97.89%, respectively. Equilibrium sorption data were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, with the Freundlich model demonstrating the best fit (R2=0.9896) to the experimental data. Comparison with literature values confirms the effectiveness of the synthesized adsorbent in AB 158 dye removal. Overall, this research contributes to sustainable wastewater treatment strategies and highlights the potential of agricultural waste-derived activated carbon for textile dye removal applications.
