  • Ripples of emotion in organisational politics: a stimulus–organism–response framework linking organisational politics, emotional contagion, and career ambition
    Lavanya R.S., Sowmya G.
International Journal of Organizational Analysis, 2026
Purpose This study extends the stimulus–organism–response framework to organisational politics by examining emotional contagion as a key mechanism linking political workplace conditions to career ambition, with co-worker envy as a relational boundary condition. Design/methodology/approach An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was used. Hermeneutic phenomenological interviews with 24 professionals informed construct refinement, followed by a survey of 425 employees in Indian knowledge-sector organisations. Data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. Findings Perceived organisational politics and voice suppression significantly predicted emotional contagion, which positively influenced career ambition. Supervisor political behaviour showed no significant effect. Co-worker envy weakened the positive relationship between emotional contagion and career ambition. Practical implications The findings highlight the importance of transparent decision-making, psychological safety and managing envy-driven rivalry to sustain motivation and well-being in politically complex workplaces. Originality/value The study positions emotional contagion at the centre of organisational politics, reconceptualises career ambition as context-sensitive and identifies envy as a relational boundary condition shaping motivational outcomes.
  • Decoding workplace gossip: a mixed-methods analysis through the SOR framework
    V. Sangavi, Sowmya G.
International Journal of Organizational Analysis, 2026
Purpose This study aims to explore the dual nature of workplace gossip, examining its influence on employee well-being, trust and organisational dynamics. By integrating the stimulus–organism–response (SOR) framework, the research investigates how workplace conflicts stimulate friendship opportunities (FOPs), which, in turn, shape gossip behaviours (GSBs) moderated by interpersonal trust. Design/methodology/approach A mixed-methods design was used in the Indian IT sector, a globally significant industry characterised by high-performance pressures, hybrid work arrangements and cultural diversity. The qualitative phase involved 21 semi-structured interviews with IT professionals, analysed through interpretive phenomenology to capture lived experiences of workplace conflict, trust and informal communication. The quantitative phase surveyed 316 IT professionals using validated scales, with reliability and validity confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis and structural modelling. Findings Results demonstrate that time-, strain- and behaviour-based conflicts act as social catalysts, fostering workplace friendships that significantly increase GSB. Importantly, gossip was not uniformly detrimental. In high-trust environments, gossip fostered inclusion, emotional support, and cohesion; in low-trust contexts, it led to reputational damage and disengagement. These findings highlight gossip’s dual role in shaping organisational life. Practical implications For India’s IT industry, where distributed teams, global clients and high turnover are common, acknowledging gossip as an inevitable social practice is essential. Managers should cultivate trust-based environments and channel gossip constructively to enhance collaboration, reduce stress and build resilience in both physical and digital workplaces. Originality/value By situating the SOR framework in the Indian IT sector, this study extends global workplace gossip literature to an underexplored yet internationally relevant context. It reframes gossip as a nuanced social practice and offers actionable insights for organisational policy and leadership in culturally diverse, high-pressure and hybrid work environments.
  • Redefining Talent Management in the Era of Transhumanism: Opportunities and Strategies
    R. S. Lavanya, G. Sowmya
Human 2 0 Reimagining Hr in the Age of Transhumanism, 2026
With the widespread adoption of human–computer interaction (HCI), conventional talent management practices require massive re-engineering. Technological advancements have significantly transformed the traditional people management strategies demanding a modernized approach. This chapter sheds light on how technology reshapes human capabilities and how these capabilities can be optimally utilized in a technology-facilitated enhanced environment. We focus on understanding the synergy in human–computer collaboration through the talent management lens and address the underlying challenges. The emerging applications of biotechnology in HR practices and their implications are also discussed. The importance of workforce augmentation in building a competitive advantage is recognized and specific talent management and essential skill upgrades are proposed for leveraging these augmented capabilities. Can an enhanced work environment shift its focus from human-centricity?. This question will serve as the central tenet throughout the remainder of the chapter. Although workforce augmentation is essential, we provide insights to strike the right balance between augmented and non-augmented teams. Finally, the chapter offers pragmatic strategies to leverage the talent of transhuman employees adding to competitive advantage. The proposed chapter provides both theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically, it strengthens the current literature on talent management by integrating transhuman aspects. The existing literature widely focuses on talent management in traditional work environments, neglecting the importance of HCI and its dynamic impact on the workforce. This chapter attempts to fill this lacuna by offering a balanced approach to talent management during workforce augmentation, providing insights for HR practitioners and talent managers across industries to comprehensively leverage human–machine capabilities.
  • Human Capital at the Core: Unpacking Managerial Perceptions and ESG Reporting Effectiveness in Emerging Markets
Aruna Polisetty, G. Sowmya, Debarun Chakraborty
Business Strategy and the Environment, 2026
Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) reporting has emerged as a key critical dimension of corporate accountability, paralleling the global discourse on sustainable development. The present study investigates the perceived effectiveness of digital ESG reporting from the perspective of managers (human capital) in Indian small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs), drawing on the interplay of institutional theory, the technology acceptance model (TAM), and the resource‐based view (RBV). Employing a mixed‐method approach, narrative inquiry was conducted with six managers across five randomly selected firms from the SEBI top‐500 list, complemented by 473 valid survey responses. The study findings reveal that perceived burdensomeness, compliance orientation, and strategic orientation significantly shape managers' evaluations of digital ESG reporting effectiveness, which in turn influences actual ESG outcomes. Moreover, organizational readiness expressed through digital maturity and managerial support (leadership commitment and employee training) emerges as a moderating factor, strengthening the link between perceived and actual effectiveness. This study contributes to ESG literature by integrating multi‐theoretical perspectives to explain reporting dynamics, offering both practical insights for firms navigating ESG mandates and policy implications for regulators.

IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, 2026
Enabled by advancements in AI, robo-advisors are transforming financial services by automating investment and wealth management. However, customer acceptance of robo advisory remains challenging, as financial services are perceived as more complex and personal than non-financial tasks typically managed by robots. This study examines the impact of trust, perceived value, and customer-robot compatibility on the acceptance of robo-services in banking. Using a mixed-method approach, we surveyed 550 respondents and conducted in depth interviews with six participants to capture lived experiences with robo-advisors. The findings of narrative inquiry were used to explore various factors affecting robot service acceptance. Further these insights served as meta-inferences for developing the proposed framework and quantitative study. Our findings reveal that trust- and empathy-driven interactions have a significant impact on customer perceptions, thereby enhancing service robot acceptance. We emphasise the role of robot empathy responses and active customer involvement as critical moderators in fostering trust. Practical implications suggest that humanising robo-services can reshape banking standards by increasing customer confidence and adopting AI-driven financial solutions. This study contributes to the growing literature on human-robot interaction in financial services, highlighting strategic pathways for banks to leverage AI for enhanced customer engagement.
  • Advancing green entrepreneurship: bibliometric insights into sustainable innovation and global collaboration
    S Nandhini, G Sowmya
    Discover Sustainability, 2025
In order to address ecological issues, promote innovation, and promote sustainable economic growth, this study examines the relationship between green entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability. The study finds important research trends, significant contributors, and conceptual categories by applying bibliometric analysis to an improved dataset of 1,393 Scopus-indexed publications, which is examined using R Studio's Biblioshiny program. It emphasizes how creative company models, environmentally friendly processes and global partnerships can help green entrepreneurship reduce climate change, conserve resources, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. Important enablers for green firms include consumer behavior, regulatory frameworks, and additional instruments like financial mechanisms, policy incentives, and advances in technology. In order to increase the efficacy of green entrepreneurship, the results highlight the significance of interdisciplinary cooperation and reliable measures for assessing environmental impacts. Although the study identifies interesting research directions, it also notes limits in the extent of the data and the dependence on keywords. To correctly map developing patterns and multidisciplinary links, it calls for the addition of various datasets and complete frameworks. This study provides insightful information that may be used to further global collaboration, policymaking, and entrepreneurial endeavours in tackling urgent environmental issues, eventually promoting a robust and sustainable global economy.
