STUDY ON THE POLYMERIC TREATMENT WITH RICE HUSK SILICA ON SISAL FIBER IN CEMENTICIOUS COMPOSITES Sudha P., Dineshkumar G., Loganathan P., Muralimohan N. Journal of Environmental Engineering and Landscape Management, 2025 This research evaluates how treating sisal fibers with expanded polystyrene (EPS) and rice husk silica (RHS) affects their absorption capacity, tensile strength, and adhesion when used in Portland cement matrices. The study on sisal fibers treated with EPS and RHS polymers found that the treatment significantly reduced water absorption by 70%, from 84.67% for untreated fibers to 15.18% for treated ones, due to the hydrophobic nature of EPS. Optical microscopy revealed an irregular polymer layer on the fibers, which, while improving dimensional stability, could impair fiber-matrix interaction. Despite these improvements, the treatment did not notably enhance the mechanical properties of the fibers, as the breaking strength remained similar to untreated fibers, and the rupture displacement slightly decreased.
Computational intelligence methods with evolutionary optimization for estimating mechanical properties of lightweight aggregate concrete Sudha Pichaipillai, Muralimohan Nithyanandam Revista Materia, 2025 The proposed work presents an approach using different computational intelligence techniques combined with an evolutionary algorithm to predict the mechanical properties of lightweight aggregate concrete. Four regression techniques were used to make it possible to predict properties: multiple-layer artificial neural networks (ANN), support vector machines (SVM), extreme learning machines (ELM), and decision trees (DT), combined with an evolutionary optimisation algorithm, the particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm. For the entire search process, the decision tree had the lowest average execution time, followed by ELM, which also had a low execution time. ANN and SVM obtained a very high average time and standard deviation compared to the other two methods tested. This is due to the different settings used in the search process, such as the number of layers for the ANN and the precision parameter ε of the SVM, which can lead to a drastic change in the learning time of these methods. In contrast, ELM and DT have more stable behaviour in relation to execution time, regardless of the values of the tested parameters. This shows that SVM and ANN are very sensitive to the values used in their parameters in relation to execution time.
Effective deep learning based prediction model for groundwater quality assessment using physio-chemical parameters P. Tamilchelvan Global Nest Journal, 2024
The purpose of this study is to anticipate and investigate the groundwater quality in the regions of the Cauvery basin. In the post-monsoon season of 2020, 800 samples were collected from 200 different places for this paper. The AlexNet model is used in this book to forecast the water quality. In order to examine the groundwater quality, the anticipated groundwater samples are analyzed using main cations (K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and Na+), major anions (NO2- +NO3-, CO3-, F-, HCO3-, Cl-, and SO42-), hardness, pH, and Electrical Conductivity (EC). The accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity of the AlexNet model are used in this publication to validate its efficacy. Validating the following metrics determines if water is suitable for drinking and irrigation: sodium percentage, magnesium ratio, Kelly's ratio, sodium adsorption ratio, water quality index (WQI), and residual sodium carbonate (RSC). According to the research, the AlexNet model predicted water quality with 93%, 94.57%, and 91.47% accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity, respectively. According to the experimental results, the WQI value shows that 22% of the collected samples are acceptable for drinking, 63% are suitable for drinking, and the other 15% are only fit for irrigation and should not be consumed.
