Review of Microgrid Energy Management in Smart Grid Environment Jitendra Singh, Ramesh Kumar Pachar, Suman Sharma, Jinendra Rahul Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics Intelligent Control and Energy Systems Icpeices 2024, 2024 Integration complexity and intermittency of Distributed energy resources (DERs) raise concerns about grid stability, security, and control of microgrids in various operating modes. MGs sustain reliability due to their ability to quickly restore Distributed Power Systems (DPS). The appropriate strategy for MG control is necessary to ensure efficacy of energy management, and qualitative dependability. Alternatively efficient energy management supports MG's operational planning. Networked- Microgrids(NMG) topology has the potential to diminish the imbalances with large-scale RES in sustainability-orchestrated power networks. Transactive energy management (TEM) is an innovative technique to optimize the performance of MG using market mechanisms. This paper reviews challenges in the MG control framework, the diverse energy resources employed in hybrid systems, contemporary operational strategies, effective Energy Management (EM) and research gaps in smart MG environment. This paper aims to provide deep insights to researchers in MG operation and control area.
Review and Outlook on Energy Transition Suman Sharma, Jitendra Singh, Baibhav Bishal, Jinendra Rahul Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Electrical Energy Systems Icees 2023, 2023 The global shift away from fossil fuel-based electricity generation to resources such as wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) generation, electric vehicles and building electrification, and the increasing usage of energy storage, are critical enablers of the global energy transition now underway. Utilities are faced with various generation sources given the growth of renewable and must consider developing a new business model to enable an efficient delivery system. Intermittent generation (PV and wind energy) as well as distributed energy resources (DER) may well prove to be the single most disruptive and transformational influence in the history of the electric grid. The proposed work highlights transformation business models for electric utilities to manage the modern resilient grid maximizing decarbonization employing a large number of DER.
An attempt to Design and Analysis of Multilevel Converter Topology for Renewable Energy Applications Gaurav Singh Rathore, Jinendra Rahul, Jitendra Singh, Ramesh Kumar Pachar, Dinesh Birla 2022 IEEE 10th Power India International Conference Piicon 2022, 2022 Multi-level inverter system architecture and simulation has great potential to integrate and expand the solar photovoltaic system. The multi-stage inverter design is based on a number of topologies. The improved space vector pulse width modulation makes it possible both in qualitative and quantitative terms to improve systems efficiency and production. The device can be connected to the photovoltaic solar system. Generated DC power is link to the AC grid through the inverter and power transformers. Harmonic filters and massive, expensive, and lossy transformers are used in traditional inverters. Multi-level inverters with lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), inductor-free design and increased control range are a viable alternative to conventional inverters. They create a steps-like waveform that looks a lot like a sine wave. Smart grids can include a lot of distributed sources, and if those sources have low THD, filtering them at the common point of connection isn't as difficult. This paper proposes 19-level inverter with high boosting power and minimal THD. Phase Opposition Disposition Pulse Width Modulation (PODPWM) technique modulates the inverter switches for voltage balance and switching losses minimization. Simscape Power Systems' MATLAB Simulink toolkit used for simulation.
Economic Load Dispatch with Emission and Line Constraints using Biogeography Based Optimization Technique Sunil Kumar Goyal, Jitendra Singh, Amit Saraswat, Neeraj Kanwar, Manish Shrivastava, O. P. Mahela Proceedings of International Conference on Intelligent Engineering and Management Iciem 2020, 2020 Economic load dispatch is the economic loading of different generating units for variable load conditions of any power system. Emission contributions of conventional thermal power plants plays major role in the overall air pollution. The total emissions need to satisfy the allowable limits of the emission. This paper proposes the load scheduling for combined economic emission and load dispatch (CEELD) problems. In this paper, Biogeography Based optimization (BBO) technique is employed to estimate the fuel cost and emission of all the generating units. The aim of this paper is to minimize the fuel cost and emission of all the units for a given load. Result obtained by BBO are compared with the results obtained by different other optimization techniques such as genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), evolutionary programming (EP) and differential evolution (DE) with respect to total fuel cost, solution time and convergence criteria. The proposed BBO technique is employed on a standard IEEE 30 bus - 6 generator power system to obtain the CEELD solution. The BBO algorithm is carried out in MATLAB environment. The solutions obtained by BBO technique are quite encouraging.
Optimization of economic load dispatch problems using biogeography based optimization technique Jitendra Singh, Sunil Kumar Goyal International Conference on Energy Economics and Environment 1st IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section Conference Upcon Iceee 2015, 2015 This paper presents a Biogeography Based Optimization (BBO) technique to solve the Economic Load Dispatch problem even as considered the generator and transmission constraints and satisfying it. Biogeography basically is the study of the geographical distribution of the biological organism. Biogeography based optimization is a comparatively new approach. Mathematical models of biogeography explain how an organism arises and how to migrate from one habitat to another habitat, or get died out. In BBO algorithm, solutions are sharing the good features between solutions that are immigration and emigration process. This algorithm looks for the overall optimum solution mostly through two steps - Migration and Mutation. Results are obtained on the different-different population size and different-different number of trials. The Results of the proposed method have been compared with results of IEEE 30-bus, 6 generator system and got the better quality of the obtained solution. This method is one of the important approaches for solving the Economic Load Dispatch problems under practical conditions.
