The Bible as a Text for Decolonisation Lyola Thomas, Dorcas E. Giftsy Neocolonialism Re Presenting Narratives Realities and Responses, 2026 This paper explores the role of the Bible in the process of decolonization, focusing on its social influence. While historically categorised as a tool of colonization, the Bible has also been reinterpreted by post-colonial societies as a source of empowerment, resistance, and cultural reclamation. Through the lenses of liberation theology, the Bible serves as a means of healing, fostering empowerment and community building. The Bible as a text lends itself to reinterpretation, offering a platform for reclaiming spiritual and moral beliefs suppressed by colonial ideologies. By applying postcolonial frameworks, this study examines how The Bible can be read in ways that foreground marginalized voices, disrupt colonial interpretations, and highlight the subversive, justice-oriented themes within its narratives. From liberation theology, these perspectives allow readers to critically engage with biblical texts to affirm autonomy, overcome the challenge of Western dominance. This approach ultimately positions The Bible as a resource for decolonial discourse rather than merely a colonial legacy.
