Promoting computational and higher-order thinking skills through problem-based learning with digital argumentation in biodiversity Marheny Lukitasari, Agita Risma Nurhikmawati, Wasilatul Murtafiah, Akhmad Sukri, Jomar Urbano, et al. Journal of Turkish Science Education, 2025 Problem-based learning integrated with Digital Argumentation (PBL-DA) is a learning strategy for optimizing innovative learning in the digital era. This research aimed to investigate whether the application of PBL-DA can foster the Computational Thinking (CT) and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs). A quasi-experimental design measured three aspects: skill (decomposition, algorithm design, evaluation), attitude (confidence, communication, flexibility), and approach (tinkering, creating, collaborating). The students' HOTs were measured through eight aspects: critical thinking, argumentation, problem-solving, problem-identifying, understanding concepts, analysing, making decisions, and creative thinking. The students' CT and HOTs scores of control and experimental classes were analyzed using Hotelling’s T² test and Tukey’s post hoc test. The Hotelling’s T² test revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes for both CT and HOTs (T² = 0.340, p < 0.001 for CT; T² = 0.718, p < 0.001 for HOTs). Tukey’s test further showed that PBL-DA significantly impacted the CT skill and attitude aspects (p < 0.01), while the approach aspect was not significant (p > 0.05). For HOTs, critical thinking, argumentation, problem-identifying and analyzing were significantly improved (p < 0.01), but problem-solving, understanding concepts, making decisions, and creative thinking showed no significant improvement (p > 0.05). Pearson’s correlation analysis indicated a strong positive correlation (r = 0.651, p < 0.001) between students' CT and HOTs skills. These findings provide evidence of the effectiveness of the PBL-DA model in improving students' CT and HOTs, demonstrating its potential for fostering critical and higher-order thinking skills in the digital era.
ANALYSIS OF FOCUSED ATTENTION LEVELS IN SCIENCE LEARNING AMONG CHILDREN WITH HYPERACTIVITY: A STUDY IN A SPECIAL EDUCATION SETTING Sekar Dwi Ardianti, Sumaji, Evanita, Mahardika Supratiwi, Savitri Wanabuliandari, et al. Jurnal Pendidikan IPA Indonesia, 2025 The objectives of this study were: (1) to analyse the characteristics of focused attention behaviour during science learning in ADHD students; (2) to identify learning strategies implemented by teachers to improve focused attention in ADHD students; and (3) to analyse the improvement of focused attention. The method used was the Mix Method Sequential Exploratory. This study was conducted at the Sunan Kudus Special Elementary School (SES). Data collection was conducted through observation and interviews. The research instruments were observation sheets and interview sheets. Qualitative data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, while quantitative data were analysed using t-tests and n-gain tests. The results of the study indicate that the characteristics of the focused-attention pattern among ADHD students are that they always respond to distractions in their learning environment. Students can complete assignments, but are unable to avoid distractions in their surroundings, which often disrupts their focused attention. The learning strategy implemented involves the teacher developing several practical approaches, intuitively and contextually, to manage student attention during learning. Science learning is designed to activate students in observation and discussion activities. The results of the t-test show a t value of -12.0, which is smaller than 0.05, indicating a difference in the focus of student attention before and after science learning with the teacher-implemented strategies. The results of the group N-Gain analysis show an average N-Gain obtained of 0.103, which is in the low category. This low N-Gain value confirms that the learning intervention has not produced substantial improvements in student attention and focus, indicating that more varied and contextual learning strategies are needed.
IMPLEMENTATION THE ETHNOSCIENCE-BASED SMART MODULE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ PATRIOTISM S. D. Ardianti, S. Wanabuliandari, A. B. Tanghal Jurnal Pendidikan IPA Indonesia, 2023 Patriotism begins to fade in the younger generation of Indonesians. The loss of patriotism will cause concern for the nation. Thus, there must be innovation in teaching to cultivate patriotism. The ethnoscience-based smart module helps students learn independently in a fun way and contributes to improving their patriotism. This study aims to analyze the improvement of students’ patriotism through implementing the ethnoscience-based smart module. This research used the research and development (R D) model by Borg and Gall. The research and development stages of ethnoscience-based smart modules included preliminary research, product development and validation, and product testing. The study was conducted in three primary schools in Kudus. The research design used in this study was a single-group pretest and posttest design. The data were analyzed using the N-gain test to determine the improvement of students’ patriotism. The results of the N-gain test show an increase in patriotism, with an average initial score of 50 increasing to an average final score of 80, and classically, the normalized gain value is 60% or 0.60, which means an increase in the medium category through the application of the ethnoscience-based smart module. Based on research results, it can be concluded that implementing an ethnoscience-based smart module can improve students’ patriotism in elementary schools.
