Organic-Inorganic Perovskite Iodides and Composites : Synthesis, Properties, Chemistry, and Applications Padmini Pandey, Devendra Kumar Pandey, Dong-Won Kang Handbook of Perovskites Chemistry Synthesis and Applications, 2026 This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the emerging landscape of organic-inorganic and inorganic iodide perovskites, driven by increasing interest in their exceptional physicochemical properties and vast potential in photovoltaics and other optoelectronic applications. The chapter begins with an exploration of the classifications and compositional variations of three-dimensional iodide perovskites. These materials are notable for their tunable bandgaps, which allow them to absorb lower-energy photons, leading to remarkable advancements in photovoltaic efficiency. Additionally, low-dimensional iodide perovskites, such as Ruddlesden–Popper (RP), Dion–Jacobson (DJ), and alternating cation interlayer (ACI) structures, known for their enhanced stability, are thoroughly discussed. Despite their successes, operational stability, ambient degradation, and defect formation in iodide perovskites remain significant hurdles. In response, this chapter delves into cutting-edge strategies to enhance desirable properties, focusing on fabrication techniques to overcome these limitations. The discussion includes defect chemistry, emphasizing the role of defects and presenting approaches to mitigate their impact. By addressing both the opportunities and challenges in this field, the chapter offers insights into the development of iodide perovskites for high-performance optoelectronic devices.
Electrical and magneto-transport properties of GdPdBi half-Heusler thin films Shivangi Srivastava, Devendra K. Pandey, Divya P. Dubey, Anupam Bhattacharya, Ratnamala Chatterjee Applied Physics Letters, 2025 We report the electrical and magneto-transport properties of [110]-oriented equiatomic GdPdBi thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition. Temperature-dependent resistivity measurements over the temperature range 3.5 K ≤ T ≤ 300 K indicate semiconducting behavior, with an activation energy gap of ∼10.2 meV, lower than the bulk bandgap (∼70 meV), suggesting strain-induced band narrowing in the thin films. Additionally, deviations from Nyquist behavior indicate electron–phonon scattering as the primary dephasing mechanism. A low-field cusp in the magneto-resistance, resembling weak anti-localization, is observed and attributed to three-dimensional bulk spin–orbit coupling, as confirmed by angle-dependent magneto-conductance measurements. The first-principles calculations confirm that a 1.2% biaxial strain reduces the bandgap from approximately 100 meV (unstrained) to 26 meV (strained), consistent with the experimental trend, and further indicate that the applied strain in GdPdBi induces the onset of band inversion. These findings provide insight into the transport properties and band structure of the GdPdBi half-Heusler thin films.
Structural, magnetic, and transport properties of epitaxial thin films of equiatomic quaternary CoFeCrGa Heusler alloy Deepika Rani, Devendra K. Pandey, Yuta Kimura, Rie Y. Umetsu, Ratnamala Chatterjee Journal of Applied Physics, 2022 We present the first report on the structural, magnetic, and transport properties of epitaxial thin films of equiatomic quaternary CoFeCrGa, grown on a single crystal MgO(001) substrate. From the structure and surface morphology analyses, we have shown that the films grown are ordered, epitaxial, and homogeneous. Magnetic measurements confirm the soft ferromagnetic nature of the film along the in-plane direction with a coercivity of 4.6 Oe. The resistivity measurements indicate semiconducting nature with a very low temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR) value, suggesting an almost temperature independent resistivity, similar to other reported spin-gapless semiconductors (SGSs) among the Heusler alloys. A non-saturating, quantum linear magnetoresistance is observed even in high fields of up to 12 kOe, another prerequisite for gapless materials. Hall measurements are also performed, and a detailed analysis has been carried out to estimate the ordinary and anomalous Hall contributions. The conductivity value (σxx) at 300 K is found to be 4280 S cm−1, which is comparable with the other reported SGS materials. We have also studied the effect of L21 and B2 type disorder on the electronic properties based on the first principle calculations and found that the SGS nature in CoFeCrGa is quite robust against the Co–Fe swap disorder (L21 disorder); however, with swap disorder (≥25%) between Cr and Ga sites, the system transits from SGS to half-metallic state. All these results indicate the possibility of spin-gapless semiconducting nature in the CoFeCrGa film, making it highly suitable for spin-based device applications.
