  • Synthesis and physico-chemical characterization of nonlinear optical single crystals of S-carboxymethyl L-cysteine for optoelectronic devices applications
Azeezaa Varsha Mohammed, Suresh Sagadevan, Yasmin Abdul Wahab, Rozana Aina Maulat Osman
    Aip Conference Proceedings, 2020
The S-carboxymethyl L-cysteine (SCLC) single crystals have been grown through slow evaporation technique. The lattice parameters of SCLC crystal have been determined using Single-crystal X-ray diffraction. From the transmission spectrum, the optical properties of the SCLC crystals have been investigated. The various functional groups of the SCLC crystal have been confirmed using the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The mechanical properties have been studied using Vickers hardness tester. The nonlinear property is identified by Kurtz and Perry. Further, the electrical properties are studied.
  • Studies on the growth and characterization of L-cysteine hydrogen fluoride single crystal
    Azeezaa Varsha Mohammed, Suresh Sagadevan
    Materials Science Poland, 2019
L-cysteine hydrogen fluoride (LCHF) single crystals were grown from aqueous solution. Single crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR, UV-Vis-NIR, and TG-DTA were used to test the grown crystals. The specimen dielectric and mechanical behaviors were also studied. Powder X-ray diffraction of the grown crystal was recorded and indexed. The optical properties of the LCHF crystal were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy. It was found that the optical band gap of LCHF was 4.8 eV. The crystal functional groups were identified using FT-IR. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the LCHF was three times higher than that of KDP. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss and AC conductivity were measured at different frequencies and temperatures.

    Acta Physica Polonica A, 2015
Nonlinear optical single crystals of L-cysteine hydrochloride monohydrate (LCB) were grown by slow evaporation technique. Single crystal X-ray diraction analysis revealed the crystal system and helped to determine lattice parameter values. Powder X-ray diraction analyses were carried out and the diraction patterns were indexed. The optical properties of the crystals were determined using UV-visible spectroscopy. Optical constants such as refractive index, extinction coecient and electric susceptibility were determined from UV-visible spectroscopy. The Fourier transform infrared studies conrmed the various functional groups present in the grown crystal. The mechanical behaviour of the grown crystals was studied using Vicker's microhardness tester. The thermal analysis conrmed that the crystal was stable up to 108.7 C. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss measurements were carried out for dierent temperatures and frequencies. Second harmonic generation of LCB crystal was investigated by the Kurtz powder technique.

Nonlinear optical single crystals of L-cystine dihydrobromide (LCHB) have been grown by slow evaporation method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the crystal system and lattice parameter values. Powder X-ray diffraction analyses have been carried out and the diffraction patterns have been indexed. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirms the various functional groups present in the grown crystal. The thermal behavior of the grown crystal was investigated by DTA and TGA analysis. The optical properties of the crystals were determined using UV-Visible transmittance spectrum. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the crystal are studied as a function of frequency for various temperatures. The SHG efficiency of the crystal is studied using the Kurtz and Perry technique.

In the present work, L-Cysteinium Sodium Nitrate Chloride (LCSNC) an organic nonlinear optical material has been synthesized by slow evaporation method. Crystalline nature was confirmed by single crystals X-ray diffraction analysis. The UV-Vis transmittance spectrum shows that the crystal has a good optical transmittance in the entire visible region with lower cutoff wavelength 203 nm. The various functional groups and chemical compositions of the grown crystal have been derived from FTIR spectral analysis. Both the dielectric constant and dielectric loss decrease with the increase in frequency. The SHG efficiency was measured by employing powder Kurtz method. Full Text: PDF References D.S. Chemla, J. • 3-Acetyl-4-hydroxyphenyl acrylate
    V. Azeezaa, G. Usha, Sundari Bhaskaran, A. Anthonysamy, S. Balasubramanian
Acta Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2009
In the title compound, C(12)H(12)O(4), the hydr-oxy O and the C and O atoms of the acetyl group are almost coplanar [maximum deviation = 0.0356 (1) Å] with the benzene ring. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the plane through the non-H atoms of the methacrylo-yloxy group is 86.1 (1)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked by two C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming dimers with graph-set descriptor R(2) (2)(16). A strong intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond is also observed.
