Laurence is a political economist working on migration, labor, and development. He obtained his PhD from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and joined IAE-CSIC in 2026 as a postdoctoral researcher funded by the AXA Research Fund. His current project, "Institutions and Migration: Perspectives on Allocation, Cohesion and Transformation" (IMPACT), investigates how migration interacts with labor institutions, national identity-building, and citizenship regimes. He is also an affiliated researcher on the ERC-funded project "Market Access and Economic Development" (ACCESS) at the University of Oslo. Prior to joining IAE-CSIC, he was a Juan de la Cierva fellow at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He also served as a consultant for the World Bank. His work has been published or is forthcoming in the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of Public Economics, and the Journal of Development Economics.
