An Overview of Technological Changes Towards Green Electrodeposition: Principles, Applications, and Challenges Subhash Chandra Ram, Jyoti Kavirajwar, Awani Bhushan, Sunkulp Goel, Sandip Saha, Sanjay Kumar Sharma Eco Friendly and Sustainable Coatings for Wear Prone Industrial Applications, 2026 With a focus on energy economy, waste minimization, and the incorporation of non-toxic materials, green electrodeposition is an energy-efficient method of electrochemical coating operations. The process of electrodeposition involves an electrochemical reaction that deposits material, usually metal, onto a substrate. There are numerous applications for this technology, including coating, plating, and the production of electronic components. However, conventional electrodeposition can have detrimental consequences on the environment and human health due to the use of dangerous chemicals and energy-intensive processes. In response to these challenges, green electrodeposition, which prioritizes reducing environmental harm, boosting energy efficiency, and utilizing eco-friendly materials, has emerged as a more viable option. The technological advances in electrodeposition which promote sustainability,is covered in the review paper. The electrodepositing problem is well known in the current industrial demands, especially in the chemical and automotive sectors. The objective of the current paper on green electrodeposition is to explore the sustainable growth of anti-corrosion electroplating, which uses safe, environmentally friendly electrolyte agents. We compare this with conventional methods thatuse toxic chemicals.
Dynamic properties and diverse applications of deep eutectic solvents Sanjeeta, Ajay Singh, Jyoti Kavirajwar Journal of Ionic Liquids, 2025 In the current scenario, Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs) have gained a lot of significance compared to organic solvents and Ionic liquids. Due to the presence of a hydrogen bond donor and hydrogen bond acceptor in DESs, dynamic properties such as high thermal stability, electrochemical stability, good solvating power, and moderate viscosity can be observed. A thorough description of basic characteristic features of the DESs such as their formation, structure, physicochemical properties, and their diverse applications are discussed in this review paper. Different parameters like temperature, composition or molar ratio, and nature of components influence the properties and hence the applications of Deep Eutectic solvents, confirmed in the literature. Their vast uses in different domains, like drug delivery, synthesis, extraction of material, and electrochemistry aspects are discussed in detail. DESs have the potential as sustainable green solvents and can contribute to strengthening green chemistry. Future directions and challenges for research are also focused, on maximizing the performance and extending the applications of DESs for a wide range of academic and industrial endeavors.
A novel green synthesis of ZrO nanoparticles as a corrosion inhibitor on ASTM-415 carbon steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 Sivakumar Sivalingam, Megala Rajendran, Jayagopi Gayathri, S. Anu, Jyoti Kavirajwar, Mihir Ghosh Results in Chemistry, 2024 • Green synthesized of Zirconium oxide nanoparticles (ZrO-NPs) composite using SCLE (Syzygium Cumin leaf extract). • ZrO-NPs composite were used as corrosion inhibitor on mild steel at aggressive medium. • ZrO-NPs were characterized by Gravimetric and Electrochemical methods. • 96% of efficiency was determined for ZrO-NPs at various concentrations. • ZrO-NPs composite reveals excellent corrosion inhibitor behavior. ZrO-SyzygiumCuminicomposite was evaluated for its ability to inhibit corrosion on ASTM-415 carbon steel in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 by means of corrosion characterization methods, including phase angle/degree, frequency, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and gravimetric assessment. As the concentration of ZrO-SyzygiumCumini composite increased, the results demonstrated that the dynamic corroding area were resist completely., resulting in the creation of a barrier layer on the working electrode surface. Furthermore, even in extremely corrosive settings, the presence of ZrO-SyzygiumCumini complex inhibitor decreased the rate of corrosion of carbon steel. Recently synthesized ZrO-SyzygiumCumini compound was subjected to FT-IR, XRD, and SEM-EDAX spectroscopic analysis.
Enhancing the corrosion resistance of mild steel coated zinc studies Jyoti S. Kavirajwar, A. Suvitha, Herri Trilaksana, Hanan Alzahrani, Nouf Alharbi, Hala Siddiq, S. Sasi Florence Measurement Sensors, 2024 In the presence of a newly created brightener, the zinc metal is coated on steel using the electro deposition process. Experiments using hull cells are used to optimize the settings and components of plating baths. Tafel Polarization and EIS techniques were used to conduct corrosion experiments, which made it possible to investigate the brilliant zinc coating's effective corrosion resistance. SEM and Reflectance spectroscopy both confirm that the bright zinc coating has modified surface morphology. XRD analysis is used to study and validate changes in crystallite orientation and phase structure. Electrochemical methods and theoretical molecular dynamic (MD) simulations were used to examine the interaction between Zn and the metal surface. FTIR spectroscopy has been used in blend investigations which impacts on the physical characteristics of polymer blends. The results of these research showed how novel brighteners can improve zinc deposits' brightness and corrosion resistance when applied to mild steel substrates.
An investigation on corrosion properties of bright Zn-Ni alloy coated mild steel Jyoti S. Kavirajwar, S. Basavanna, Bharath K. Devendra Electrochemical Science Advances, 2022 In the present work, the electrodeposition of Zn–Ni alloy from Sulfate bath was carried out in presence of a novel brightener (CG), the condensation product of Cysteine Hydrochloride and Glutaraldehyde. The corrosion studies were carried out using Electrochemical Impedance spectroscopy and Potentiostatic techniques. They confirmed an increase in corrosion resistance and protection ability of bright zinc–nickel alloy coatings. Surface morphology was studied using SEM, FTIR, and reflectance spectroscopy that revealed fine‐grained nature of Zn‐Ni alloy crystallites. X‐ray diffraction studies were used for phase identification and preferred orientation of Zn–Ni alloy crystallites. The preferred orientation of the Zn‐Ni alloy crystallites along (630) planes was configured for bright appearance of the coating. CG was successful in giving an even, homogeneous, refined, and bright Zn‐Ni alloy deposit.
Role of the newly synthesized brightener in modification of surface properties of Zn-Ni alloy electrodeposited on steel substrate Jyoti S. Kavirajwar, Basavanna Shivarudraiah, Yanjerappa Arthoba Nayaka Journal of Electrochemical Science and Engineering, 2019 In the present study, a new brightener was synthesized by condensation of salicylaldehyde and cysteine hydrochloride (SC). To examine the influence of SC on the nucleation mechanism of Zn-Ni alloy, electrodeposition, cyclic voltammetric and chronoamperometric studies were carried out. The model of Schariffker and Hills was used to analyze current transients which explained the electrocrystallization process of Zn-Ni alloy. It is revealed that Zn-Ni electrocrystallization process in presence of SC is regulated by instantaneous nucleation mechanism. The corrosion studies were done for the bright and dull zinc-nickel alloy coatings in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution, using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic techniques. The phase structure, surface morphology and brightness of the deposit were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and reflectance studies. These studies revealed the role of SC in producing a bright Zn-Ni alloy coating on mild steel substrate and also showed its improved corrosion resistant nature.
