I, Dr. Krishna, have completed my B.Sc. M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Yoga from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samasthana (S-VYASA) Yoga University, Bangalore. My Ph.D. thesis title is “Changes in Cortical and Autonomic Activities During Heartfulness Meditation: A Cross-Sectional with Immediate Effect Study”. I have explored the beneficial effects of yoga and meditation practices on mental health and brain functions using electrophysiological and neuroimaging techniques, including fNIRS, EEG, TCD, ECG, and so on. I have ten years of yoga & seven years of research experience in the cognitive neuroscience lab, S-VYASA Bangalore. I have worked on several government and privately funded projects to explore the effects of yoga, pranayama, and meditation on various aspects of the mind and body. I have published over 38 research articles and five Book chapters/general articles. I have guided 40 postgraduate students in their research work. Recently, I received the International Travel Award from the

Mind–Body Interventions as Modulators of Neural Connectivity and Cognition in Individuals at Risk for Alzheimer’s Disease: A Systematic Review Dwivedi Krishna, Avinash Chandra Pandey, Saurav Nilesh, Sridam Anand, Jyoti Amit Singh, Amit Singh Annals of Neurosciences, 2026 Background Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia worldwide, contributing to nearly 60%-70% of dementia cases. Current pharmacological treatments provide limited symptomatic relief and minimal efficacy in altering disease progression, highlighting the need for complementary interventions. Mind-body practices such as yoga and meditation are increasingly explored for preserving cognitive abilities and reducing neurodegenerative risk. Summary This systematic review evaluated randomized controlled trials investigating yoga, meditation, and related mind-body interventions on cognitive and neural health in individuals with normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment, or subjective memory decline. Following PRISMA guidelines, studies published up to March 2025 were reviewed. Findings showed improvements in memory, attention, executive functions, mood, and quality of life. Neurobiological benefits included preservation of hippocampal volume, improved functional connectivity, increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels, and reduced neuroinflammation markers. However, methodological limitations such as small sample sizes and short intervention durations were common. Key Message Mind-body interventions show promising cognitive and neurobiological benefits in populations at risk of AD. Yoga and meditation may serve as feasible, cost-effective complementary approaches alongside conventional therapy. Larger long-term clinical trials are needed to establish standardized protocols and sustained therapeutic effectiveness.
Cerebro-Haemodynamic Changes in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Following Yoga Intervention: A Pilot Study Advances in Mind Body Medicine, 2025
Event-Related Potential Changes Following 12-week Yoga Practice in T2DM Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial Amit Kanthi, Singh Deepeshwar, Kaligal Chidananda, Mahadevappa Vidyashree, Dwivedi Krishna Clinical EEG and Neuroscience, 2025 Introduction. Type 2 diabetes patients are more likely to experience cognitive decline (1.5%) and dementia (1.6%) than healthy individuals. Although cognitive impairment adversely affects Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, it is the least addressed complication of T2DM patients. Objective. The present study attempts to examine the changes in cognitive performance of T2DM patients and the probable factors contributing to the changes following 12-week yoga practice. Methods. The current study is a parallel group randomized controlled trial that compared the outcomes of the participants randomized to a yoga group (YG) ( n = 25) and to a wait-list control group ( n = 29). The study assessed N200 and N450 event-related potential (ERP) components following the Stroop task, heart rate variability (HRV) and HbA1c before and after the intervention. Results. The mean amplitude of the N200 ERP component showed a significant group difference after the intervention, demonstrating an improved neural efficiency in the process of conflict monitoring and response inhibition. No differences were present for the N450 component. T2DM patients showed reduced heart rate and increased mean RR following yoga practice without any corresponding changes in other HRV parameters, demonstrating an overall improvement in cardiac activity. Along with that yoga practice also reduced HbA1c levels in T2DM patients, indicating improved glycemic control. Moreover, HbA1c levels were negatively correlated with reaction time after the intervention, indicating an impact of glycemic control on cognitive performance. Conclusion. The 12-week yoga practice improved cognitive performance by enhancing the processes of conflict monitoring and response inhibition. Further, improved cognitive performance postintervention was facilitated by improved glycemic control.
Determining the depth of meditation through frontal alpha asymmetry Dwivedi Krishna, Deepeshwar Singh, N. K. Manjunath Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2025 Background Electroencephalogram (EEG) alpha asymmetry has become a pivotal area of research for understanding functional hemispheric differences in neuroscience. To the best of our knowledge, the relationship between frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA) and the depth of meditation has yet to be thoroughly examined. To address this gap, the present cross-sectional study was conducted to explore the meditative states of long-term meditators and non-meditators. Methods This study examined 26 long-term heartfulness meditation practitioners (LTM) and 33 non-meditators (NM), aged 30 to 45 years. Frontal EEG activity was employed to assess frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA), while self-reported measures, including the Meditation Depth Questionnaire (MEDEQ) and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), were used to evaluate the depth of meditation. Results The results demonstrated significant differences in self-reported meditation depth between the long-term meditators and non-meditators, as shown through MEDEQ and VAS assessments. Notably, the FAA findings exhibited distinct interaction effects that highlight variations between the two groups. Furthermore, a positive correlation was established between FAA and the depth of meditation, supporting the notion that EEG patterns are reflective of self-reported meditative experiences. Conclusion The findings suggest that heartfulness meditation may modulate FAA patterns in practitioners, which could be linked to enhanced emotional balance.
