  • The International Journal of Climatology: A Scientometric Analysis
    T. C. Thirunavukkarasu, P. Kannan
Exploring Digital Metrics in Academic Libraries, 2025
The paper analyses the documents published in the prominent journal ”The International Journal of Climatology” from 2011 to 2020 using scientometric parameters. Data was retrieved from Scopus data. This analysis covers mainly the kinds of publications, authorship and collaboration patterns, bibliographic coupling, subject wise distribution of articles, citation analysis, forms, year wise distribution of cited journals etc. The analysis indicates 98.36% of publications are articles. Climate Change, Climatology, Rain, Climate models are mostly used keywords. Majority of publications are from China followed by the USA, UK and India. And 47.28% publications are published as open access. Our study will give a broad range of perceptions for upcoming researchers by tracking the trends.
  • Faculty Profile Management System Using IRINS for the Analysis of Research Performance in the Field of Science and Technology
    S. Thanuskodi, P. Kannan
International Journal of Information Science and Management, 2025
Academic institutes and Research and Development organizations collect, curate, and organize research-related activities from various sources. The Faculty Profile System or Research Information Management System plays a crucial role in academic institutions organizing scholarly communication data. The research-related metadata collected through the Faculty Profile System could be used for various purposes, including research assessment of faculty and department, decision-making on allocating funding, and ranking of the institute. The study aims to develop a faculty profile management system using the Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) for seven Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and analyze the faculty members' research contributions through bibliometric indicators. The study attempted to analyze seven IITs' research performance based on the publications and citations from 2010-2019. This study emphasized evaluating the faculty and organization's research performance through quantity, impact, quality, and importance. Quantity refers to the number of publications; quality refers to the number of papers published in a highly impacted journal; impact refers to measuring the researcher's influence and evaluation by the number of citations received by the faculty or organization. This paper examines the analysis of research performance in the field of Science and Technology.
  • Utilization of Open Educational Resources (OERs) by College Students in India
    M. Nagaiah, P. Kannan
Exploring Digital Metrics in Academic Libraries, 2025
In the information driven society OERs facilitates quality educational resources to the community without expecting anything in return. Here, researcher attempts to understand the utilization level of these resources among the college students. The study aims to evaluate the attitude of college students from rural area towards Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) and the necessity of using OERs among students which will shed light on the internet access, and learning methods. The sample taken from arts and science college students located in Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu, India. Samples of 649 were taken from the total population of 26449 students. Most of the respondents came to know about OERs through their teachers and started using it from less than a year before. Furthermore, it was found that librarians were playing a vital role in familiarizing students and teachers with OERs.
  • IRINS: Implementing a Research Information Management System in Indian Higher Education Institutions
    Kannan Palavesm, JP Singh Joorel
    Procedia Computer Science, 2022
An increasing number of organizations are encouraging and accepting the research information management system in the institute level to assess the research progress of the organization and bring out a report on scholarly communication activities. Open and commercial product on the Current Research Information System (CRIS) is emerging in the last decade. The Directory of Current Research Information system listed 25 CRIS system across European countries. The European Current Research Information System (euroCRIS) support the CRIS thought the European countries through the conference, working group and pioneer in the advocacy since 2002. This paper considers the recent development in the CRIS related activities around the world and recent progress in India. This paper describes the various challenges to setting up the RIM for the higher education institutions including identification of nodal officers, collecting faculty profile information, retrieving scholarly communication activities from internal and external sources, etc. Also, discuss the training programme to the nodal officer level and institute level to promote the academic identities and their importance. The paper also discusses the impact of the IRINS in the higher education system in India and its use case with different stakeholders such as students, scholars, faculty members, scientists, research administrators, funding agencies and policymakers, etc.
  • User satisfaction with library information resources and services: Improvement and innovation of effective activities of research scholars
    S. Muthuvennila, P. Kannan
Research Anthology on Collaboration Digital Services and Resource Management for the Sustainability of Libraries, 2021
This chapter deals with the purpose of library resources and services stratification of users of Alagappa University. Users are the most vital component of libraries. Alagappa University Central Library provided the various types of services in RFID, Web OPAC, SMS and e-mail alerts, ETD, DLNET service, mobile-based digital services, etc. The study covers 76 scholars out of 82 questionnaires distributed. The questionnaires were distributed in 10 departments in the Faculty of Arts in Alagappa University. The statistical techniques used for the analysis of data are the frequency, cross tables, descriptive statistics. This chapter describes the use of resources and services, library services, services provided to the users, e-resources access at Alagappa University, scope and limitations of the study, and objectives for using the resources and services. Alagappa University research scholars mostly used the library resources and services.
