Design Optimization of a Grid-Connected Off-Board EV Charger Using DQ Control with PI and Fuzzy Logic Controllers in Simulink M. T. L. Gayatri, Afreen, Reddymalla Sindhuja, Kodipaka Saidivya 2025 3rd World Conference on Communication and Computing Wconf 2025, 2025 The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in global transportation has led to a demand for efficient and reliable charging systems This project focuses on the development and simulation of an off-board electric vehicle charging system utilizing two advanced control strategies: DQ-based vector control and fuzzy logic control. The complete model is designed in MATLAB/Simulink, incorporating key components such as a three-phase grid interface, DQ transformation blocks, inverter-based power conversion, and a controlled battery charging unit. The DQ controller uses traditional Proportional-Integral (PI) regulators in the synchronous reference frame for precise current and voltage control. On the other hand, the fuzzy logic controller introduces a rule-based, adaptive approach that improves system robustness and dynamic response under varying operating conditions. The proposed control strategies are analyzed based on multiple performance metrics including charging efficiency, total harmonic distortion (THD), transient response, and overall system stability. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of both approaches in maintaining high power quality and reliable EV charging. This work contributes to the development of intelligent, grid-connected off-board chargers for electric vehicles, with the potential to support future demands of smart grid infrastructure and renewable energy integration.
Battery Management System for V2G and G2V in DC Fast Charging Architecture M. T. L. Gayatri, Kkc Deekshit, Ps Puhan 2024 4th International Conference on Advances in Electrical Computing Communication and Sustainable Technologies Icaect 2024, 2024 Electric vehicle (EV) integration with the smart grid has received a lot of attention recently, and has prompted the development of the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) technologies. Micro-grids may be able to employ the batteries from electric cars (EVs) as a part. A battery management system (BMS) is necessary to enable V2G and G2V to ensure safe and effective operation. A BMS for DC fast charging architecture that can support both V2G and G2V applications is proposed in this study. In order to manage the flow of electricity, the BMS communicates with the smart grid and employs a combination of hardware and software to control the battery's charging and discharging. In fast-charging applications, the ability to optimize battery state of charge and shorten charging time is crucial. The present simulation findings demonstrate that the suggested BMS can boost the charging system's efficiency and dependability, resulting in better battery performance and longer battery life.
Series EHV Fundamentals and Future Prospects: Virtual Design Environment M T L Gayatri, K K C Deekshith, K Raghavendrareddy, Pratap Sekhar Puhan 2024 IEEE 4th International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Future Electric Transportation Sefet 2024, 2024 The dynamic assessment of the hybrid electric vehicle's behavior is essential to make an accurate evaluation of its performance, efficiency as well as emission levels. There are two kinds of tools for simulation which are variable and steady state. An equilibrium model that can understand its current behavior, as well as a dynamic model including the electric motor of the vehicle, batteries and controller is essential for an effective evaluation. Utilizing a power flow analysis, vehicle components will be sized first to suit the requirements for power and energy. To achieve this, the hybrid electric vehicle with series configuration was modelled and tested using the ADVISOR (ADvanced Vehicle SimulatOR). The results of the simulation are presented and discussed to validate the performance and complexity of the vehicle in the virtual world.
Design of Effective Battery Management System for Electric Vehicles using Passive Cell Balancing M T L Gayatri, Nyamathabad Bharath, Matta Balasai, Marri Sai Teja, Angothu Bharath Naik Proceedings 2024 1st International Conference on Innovative Sustainable Technologies for Energy Mechatronics and Smart Systems Istems 2024, 2024 The efficiency of a battery energy storage system is heavily affected by the imbalance of cells. The capacity degradation of a single cell, which results in a lack of using the full capacity of a battery energy storage system, BESS is the primary disadvantage of its cell's imbalance. The cause of imbalance in cells is due to external or internal causes like manufacturing errors or self-discharge rate variations, as well as charging the cells over unison over a period. Therefore, this study primarily examines the method of cell balancing used in the Battery Management System of Electric Vehicles and Passive Cell balancing has been considered in this work. In addition, a comparative study of the different topologies conducted regarding charge and discharge capability as well as the most important elements needed for balance of cells. This study is not just for analyzing the lifespan of the battery, however also for the safety of the battery stopping the deep discharge that can occur in cells due to the overheating.
Mitigation of Power Quality Issues during Electric Vehicle Integration M. T. L. Gayatri, Srija Sreeram, Sai Pranathi Jatla, Akshaya Choppari 5th International Conference on Energy Power and Environment Towards Flexible Green Energy Technologies Icepe 2023, 2023 Transportation system is considered as the second largest source of carbon emissions after power generation. EVs (Electric Vehicles) play major role in reducing carbon emissions. Integration of EVs into the grid not only reduces carbon emissions but also protects environment. However there exists, many challenges during this integration. The major challenges faced during integration are overloading of power grid, power quality (PQ) issues, supply demand imbalance, increased peak demand, frequency deviation, energy losses, reduced stability and reliability, battery degradation and high investment cost. In this regard, few concerned issues from the above are considered and they are being mitigated by using RES as the main power supply. When these sources are unable to provide sufficient power to charge the vehicles, we rely on the energy stored in BESS for vehicle charging. In this event that BESS is also incapable of meeting the power demand, the Grid serves as an alternative power source for vehicle charging. This mitigation technique is being discussed and demonstrated using the MATLAB Simulink platform.
Demodulation-Based Spectral Analysis of Input Current with Gabor Transform in Detection of Electrical Faults in Induction Motors K C Deekshit Kompella, M T L Gayatri, R Srinivasa Rao, Pratap Sekhar Puhan 5th International Conference on Energy Power and Environment Towards Flexible Green Energy Technologies Icepe 2023, 2023 In this paper, detection of electrical faults in a Three Phase Induction Motor (TPIM) using current spectral analysis (CSA) is presented. Induction motors are main workhorse of many industries due to their advent features like robust construction, wide range of control and cost effective etc. Due to huge usage of these machines without monitoring, they face unexpected failures. These faults cause motors to abruptly stop, resulting in unexpected downtime for production and revenue. It is highly undesirable and imposes continuous monitoring of these faults in early stage. Electrical faults require special attention among the various faults encountered by induction motors due to their abrupt consequences on machine performance. On the other hand, CSA is a more widely used fault monitoring technique than other methods such as vibration, noise, temperature, and chemical parameters. Conventional CSA using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) has many issues and are addressed using proposed Gabor Transform (G T) and the noise due to acquisition of input current is removed using demodulation. The fault severity of proposed electrical faults is estimated using selected feature parameters. The proposed fault detection topology is examined experimentally using 2 HP, 440 V, and 50 Hz three phase induction motor using LabView and MATLAB environment.
Hybrid Energy Storage based PQ Conditioner for DG Integrated Microgrid M T L Gayatri, K K C Deekshith 3rd International Conference on Power Energy Control and Transmission Systems Icpects 2022 Proceedings, 2022 More and more renewable energy sources are being integrated into the electricity grid as a result of the quick advancement in distributed generation technology and the in-fluence of government support policies. Integration with existing electrical loads and power networks is a major barrier to the market adoption of these technologies. Switching devices during the integration are increasingly being used, which inevitably leads to a decline in power quality. At the same time, these devices are also more likely to break down as a result of bad power quality. Hence, an enhanced energy storage system with the duo of super magnetic and battery compensator is proposed to assure consistent power delivery and safeguard critical loads from interrupted power delivery. The proposed compensator is used for grid-connected PV wind farm units and tested for different scenarios of power quality fluctuations that are modelled in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
