Electric Vehicles (EVs), which are a cleaner and quieter alternative to conventional gasoline-fueled automobiles, are powered by electricity. An Electric Vehicle (EV) is one that is powered by electric motors and rechargeable batteries. This chapter describes a novel method for maximizing smart home appliance power consumption. It also introduces a new Secretary Bird Optimization ISBOA algorithm for more effective power consumption scheduling in time-of-use and critical peak pricing CPP schemes. To reduce energy costs and peak demand, two dynamic pricing methods, TOU-CPP, are used in this technique. This work addresses the major challenges in Smart home energy management, with a focus on enhancing user comfort while lowering electricity bills and peak demand. Through the incorporation of RES and ESD into the electrical grid, the proposed strategy creates a more efficient EMS. Because of this integration, CPP and TOU pricing schemes seek to reduce the Peak-toAverage Ratio (PAR) and redistribute the load to allow the best appliance sched-uling possible by categorizing household appliances, separated into three groups: hybrid, time-flexible, and power-flexible. The study creates a thorough load scheduling design that improves user comfort while maintaining energy efficiency. The benefits of the Tabu search method are combined with the pursuit and running habits of secretary birds in the ISBO algorithm, which improves on tra-ditional Secretary Bird Optimization (SBOA). This hybrid algorithm optimizes appliance scheduling based on power ratings and operational characteristics while dynamically adapting to current energy prices. The system allows users to schedule appliances more efficiently using Demand Response (DR) signals and real-time pricing data, resulting in cost savings and improved grid stability. The MATLAB simulation results show obvious decreases in energy use and electricity expenses in a range of situations.
  • TF-EffBiGRU-AttNet: A Novel Deep Learning Framework for Spatio-Temporal Energy Demand Forecasting in Electric Vehicle Charging Networks
    S Prakash
Journal of Applied Data Sciences, 2026
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) are key enablers of sustainable transportation, yet accurate forecasting of their energy demand remains challenging due to complex spatial-temporal variability. This study introduces a novel hybrid deep learning framework, Two-Fold EfficientNetV2 BiGRU with Attention (TF-EffBiGRU-AttNet), optimized using the Self-Adaptive Hippopotamus Optimization Algorithm (SA-HOA), to enhance prediction accuracy and computational efficiency in EVCS energy demand forecasting. The main objective is to integrate multi-scale spatial learning, bidirectional temporal modeling, and adaptive feature prioritization within a single architecture capable of robust and interpretable forecasting. The model’s novelty lies in its dual-fold spatial feature extraction using EfficientNetV2 and dynamic optimization through SA-HOA, which adaptively balances exploration and exploitation during training. Experimental validation on two real-world datasets from Palo Alto and Perth demonstrates that the proposed model consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines. For the 7-1 forecasting task, TF-EffBiGRU-AttNet achieved the lowest MAE of 0.012 and RMSE of 0.051 for Palo Alto, and MAE of 0.029 with RMSE of 0.12 for Perth. For the 30-7 task, it achieved MAE of 0.0332, RMSE of 0.1654, and MAPE of 0.20% on Palo Alto, and MAE of 0.0235, RMSE of 0.0824, and MAPE of 0.37% on Perth, outperforming Bi-LSTM and EfficientNet by over 60% in RMSE reduction. Moreover, SA-HOA improved optimization efficiency with a best fitness value of 0.0003 and reduced convergence time to 1.2 seconds, surpassing PSO, GWO, and HOA. These results highlight the framework’s ability to capture spatial-seasonal and nonlinear dependencies while maintaining low computational overhead. The findings confirm the model’s potential as a robust, adaptive, and scalable solution for intelligent EV energy demand forecasting, supporting smart grid planning and sustainable energy management.
  • Deep Cognitive Computing with Swin-Bi-LSTM for Real-time SOC Estimation in Smart EV Battery Systems
    S. Arunamary, G. Sudhagar, S. Priya, S. Prakash, P. Vinothkumar
Cognitive Computing with Intelligent Engineering Platforms, 2026
State of charge (SoC) estimation is vital to the efficient and safe operation of Electric Vehicles (EVs). The exceptional properties of lithium-ion batteries, such as high-power density, long life, and wide operating temperature range, rapid charging, and low self-discharge, are making them more popular. To ensure that the EV batteries operate at their optimal level and safely, a Battery Management System (BMS) must be installed. By tracking the SoC, the BMS manages, preserves, and guarantees the longevity and operation of rechargeable batteries. The Li-ion battery dataset was first pre-processed through normalization and data cleaning. Inertial Weighted Principal Component Analysis (IW-PCA) derives features related to charge and discharge data from lithium-ion battery analysis. The derived features are then fed into the Swin-BiLSTM model, which is a combination of the Bi-LSTM model and the Swin transformer. The Transformer model has the ability to capture long-range dependencies accurately. The SA-AZOA method is then utilized to hyper-tune the proposed model. This optimization technique allows for efficient SoC estimation in order to acquire the optimal model configuration. Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Normalized Mean Square Error (NMSE), Relative Error (RE), and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) are the evaluation indices that are employed. The proposed model, known as the Optimized Swin-Bi-LSTM (OSB) model, was tested on the NASA Li-ion battery dataset in MATLAB and showed higher performance, with the lowest RMSE of 0.76%. Reliable SoC assessment contributes to the increased confidence of consumers in their electric vehicles by accurately estimating battery status, reducing unscheduled vehicle downtime, and enhancing driving enjoyment.
  • Smart Motor Fault Detection Leveraging LabVIEW and IoT Integration
    P. Vinoth Kumar, S. Priya, S. Prakash, D. Gunapriya, V. Sridevi
AI Trust Risk and Security Management Framework Principles and Practices, 2026
The most common primary movers in modern industries, induction machines are typically strong and long-lasting, although they can malfunction due to ageing, vibration, environmental variables, and regular use. A combined approach of fault detection techniques is essential to improve motor performance and reliability while lowering the chance of unanticipated failures. The article presents a real-time remote monitoring and identification of induction motor faults with LabVIEW. The method proposed makes use of the Internet of Things (IoT) to remotely regulate motor operation and LabVIEW to categories motor or generator faults. By addressing these problems, motor efficiency will increase and their use in industrial settings will increase. The motor's sensors record voltage, current, and temperature in real time. LabVIEW simulation software is then used to analyze the data. Each parameter has threshold values that are established, and an alert is provided to indicate the level with of fault with alarm when real-time values routinely exceed these limits. A LabVIEW dashboard tailored for monitoring motor faults serves as a centralized platform for real-time observation and analysis of critical motor parameters. Leveraging IoT in this work enable remote access, empowering users to monitor motor status and adjust settings from anywhere. The work is validated with the prototype connected to single phase induction motor and fault is analyzed at different load conditions and fault conditions. This Fault identification in motors is critical across a wide range of applications and industries where motor-driven systems are employed such as manufacturing industry, power generation and utilities, transportation sector, water and waste water treatments.

This chapter is a comparative analysis of control algorithms used typically in prosthetic leg devices. It aims to ascertain the algorithms' relative effectiveness in facilitating prosthetic limbs' functional ability and satisfaction among users. Based on the scientific comparison of literature on current control strategies, this study concludes the major strengths and weaknesses and research areas in this regard. Control techniques are required to facilitate prosthetic limbs' more natural, responsive movement. Pattern recognition-based techniques use sensor data to recognize user intent, and impedance control techniques modulate joint stiffness to reproduce natural biomechanics.Nevertheless, high computational complexity, real-time processing demands, and user training of significant length continue to be major issues. By looking at the current state of control algorithms, this paper gives reflective observation on their use and usage.
