Antiaging Potential of Peronema canescens Jack Leaf Extract: A Natural Ingredient in Topical Skincare Formulation Rahmiati, Ringga Novelmi, Vivi Efrianova, Tyas Asih Surya Mentari, Siska Miga Dewi, et al. Dermatology Research and Practice, 2026 Background Peronema canescens Jack (Sungkai) leaves contain antioxidant compounds with potential antiaging properties, yet their application in topical skincare formulations remains underexplored. Objectives This study aimed to analyze the potential of P. canescens leaf extract as an antiaging cream ingredient and characterize its phytochemical profile, antioxidant activity, and cream formulation properties. Methods Dried Sungkai leaves (250 g) were extracted via maceration using 70% ethanol for 72 h. Phytochemical screening employed standard reagent tests for flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, and terpenoids. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH radical scavenging method. Three antiaging cream formulations containing 0.02% (F1), 0.04% (F2), and 0.06% (F3) extract were prepared and evaluated for organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, adhesion, and dispersion. Stability was tested using six freeze–thaw cycles. Results The extraction yield was 18.10%. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, and steroids, while terpenoids and alkaloids were absent. The extract demonstrated very strong antioxidant activity with an IC 50 value of 21.98 ± 1.23 ppm, compared to vitamin C (IC 50 = 4.12 ± 0.34 ppm). All cream formulations exhibited acceptable pH values (F1: 5.54 ± 0.06, F2: 5.16 ± 0.12, and F3: 5.01 ± 0.05), good homogeneity, adequate adhesion (F1: 13.93 ± 0.88 s to 12.68 ± 0.76 s; F2: 16.67 ± 1.02 s to 15.50 ± 0.94 s; and F3: 17.33 ± 1.15 s to 16.41 ± 1.08 s), and appropriate dispersion (F1: 4.92 ± 0.15 to 6.20 ± 0.22 cm; F2: 4.82 ± 0.18 to 6.30 ± 0.25 cm; and F3: 4.67 ± 0.12 to 6.15 ± 0.20 cm). However, adhesion and dispersion stability decreased after storage, indicating the need for formulation optimization. Conclusions P. canescens leaf extract exhibits very strong antioxidant activity and can be formulated into stable antiaging creams. Further optimization is required to enhance long‐term stability of adhesion and dispersion properties.

Tatik Melinda Tallulembang, Selfina Pare, Jarot Budiasto, Dony Novaliendry, Rahmat Fadillah, et al. Salud Ciencia Y Tecnologia, 2025 Introduction: The rising demand for large red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) driven by high market prices and culinary significance has encouraged cultivation efforts. However, inadequate farming knowledge creates challenges for both growers and consumers, necessitating innovative educational approaches. Objective: This study aimed to develop and evaluate an Android-based Augmented Reality (AR) application for educating users on proper large red chili cultivation techniques, and assess its effectiveness in enhancing agricultural knowledge transfer.Method: The research employed the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) methodology, utilizing Unity and Vuforia platforms to create an interactive AR application. The application used smartphone cameras to scan tag cards that triggered educational videos providing step-by-step cultivation guidance. A structured questionnaire survey was conducted with 20 respondents using purposive sampling to evaluate application usability and effectiveness across seven criteria using a 5-point Likert scale. Results: The AR application achieved an overall satisfaction score of 89% (623 out of 700 points), with the highest criterion scoring 93% and the lowest 79%. User feedback indicated the application was useful and informative for learning chili cultivation practices. The AR functionality performed effectively even when tag cards were partially obscured (up to 50% coverage), demonstrating robust technical performance under varying conditions. Conclusions: The AR-based application proved to be an effective educational tool for chili cultivation, successfully bridging knowledge gaps in agricultural practices. The high user satisfaction rates and positive feedback support the practical application of AR technology in agricultural education, offering an accessible and engaging method for learning essential cultivation techniques.
Toddler’s Nutritional Status: the effect of infection rate as a mediating factor Yuliana Yuliana, Afifah Nur Hasanah, Violintikha Harmawan, Nabila Tasrif, Mentari Larashinda, et al. Salud Ciencia Y Tecnologia, 2025 This article examines how infection rate, as a mediating factor, affects toddlers' nutritional status in developing regions. A comprehensive cross-sectional study was conducted on 302 pairs of mothers and toddlers in four districts of West Sumatra, Indonesia. The research collected extensive data on socioeconomic factors including household income, maternal nutritional knowledge, feeding practices, toddlers' nutritional status mediated by infection rate, and the relationship between maternal knowledge and feeding practice. The findings support three of the four proposed hypotheses, providing valuable insights into child health determinants in resource-limited settings. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 21 with descriptive statistics and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to ensure statistical rigor. Statistical analysis demonstrated significant relationships between variables. The findings reveal several important relationships: 1) there is a positive effect of income on nutritional status mediated by infection, highlighting socioeconomic influences; 2) there is a positive effect of maternal knowledge on nutritional status mediated by infection, emphasizing educational components; 3) there is no indirect effect of feeding practices on nutritional status mediated by infection, contrary to initial expectations; and 4) there is a direct relationship between maternal knowledge and feeding practice, confirming educational impact on care behaviors. Nutritional status and infection are strongly interrelated in a synergistic relationship, where each factor impacts the other. The infection rate serves as a critical mediating factor affecting toddlers' nutritional status in developing regions. These results support further longitudinal studies to investigate specific infection factors affecting toddlers across different developmental stages and socio-economic contexts.
