The competitiveness of SMEs is enhanced by compiling a map consisting of local superior employment sectors and local superior products. This study aims to identify and map the work sector and products of Small and Medium Enterprises that need to be developed to become the local carrying capacity of Tarakan City. Sources of data include primary data (questionnaires from respondents) and secondary data (GRDP data for the city of Tarakan). Data analysis methods include Location Quotient (LQ), Klassen Typology, and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results showed that the fishery-based processing industry is an employment sector that has great potential to become a local leading sector in Tarakan City. The results also reveal that the competitiveness of SMEs can be increased by developing local superior products. This development must meet three criteria, respectively: development must be oriented towards the conservation of resources and the environment; its development must only involve products with local raw materials and local uniqueness, and its development is supported by local communities. Another finding is about three priority local superior products, namely Dried Fish/Peyek Pepija, Shredded Milkfish, and Amplang Milkfish Crackers. These results can be used as a basis for making policies regarding the development of a country's local superior products.

This research is aimed to examine the effect of environmental performance on firm value with environmental disclosure as a mediation variable. Sample of research is non-financial companies at the Indonesia Stock Exchange that have followed the Environmental Performance Assessment Program (PROPER) held by the Ministry of Life Environment and Forestry. The data analysis method is Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS), and the analysis operation is facilitated by the software of WarpPLS 6.0. The result of analysis has given a few findings. One is that environmental performance has a positive effect on firm value and environmental disclosure. Other result shows that environmental disclosure does not affect firm value and does not mediate the effect of environmental performance on firm value. In general, all the results support the stakeholder theory and the resource-based view theory. Companies with environmentally friendly commitments can be a strategy in creating higher firm value.

Article history: Received: February 16, 2020 Received in revised format: March 27 2020 Accepted: March 29, 2020 Available online: March 30, 2020 This paper aims to investigate the relationship between managerial opportunistic behavior and the value of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, using two different indicators of company value. The first indicator looks at the value of the company from a less than ideal size and other indicators view the value of the company from the ideal size. By using 320 observations, the results of this study found evidence that managerial opportunistic behavior that is proxied by free cash flow plays a role in influencing the overvalued equity proxied by market books. Likewise, free cash flow plays an important role on influencing Tobin q. This study also establishes an indirect relationship of free cash flow to overvalued equity and Tobin q which is mediated by dividend policy. Empirical results show that dividend policy mediates the effect of free cash flow on overvalued equity and also Tobin q partially. © 2020 by the authors; licensee Growing Science, Canada

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of controlling shareholders’ monitoring on firm performance through the implementation of operational efficiency commitment to environmental friendliness. Non-financial firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and joining the Environmental Performance Assessment Program (PROPER) are determined as the sample. Results indicate that controlling shareholders have a positive impact on operational efficiency commitment to environmental friendliness and also on firm performance. In addition, other key findings indicate that the controlling shareholders can improve firm performance through the implementation of operational efficiency commitment to environmental friendliness. The results of this study support the position of the agency theory, the stakeholder theory, and the legitimacy theory. Operational efficiency commitment to environmental friendliness is then suggested to be a meaningful strategy for the firms to obtain sustainable performance.
